Pre- Activities:
Before jumping into the lesson go over the alphabet with them
If they have had any previous training most of them will know the song and if
not they have a chance to learn it
After singing the ABCs explain to them that there is more to it than just a fun
song
Activities:
(of course this will all be in a time span of one week)
Write on the white board a couple of letters (a capital followed by a lowercase)
Example: Aa Bb Cc
Ask the children if any of them has ever heard of uppercase and lowercase
letters
Explain to the children that with each letter of the alphabet there is a smaller or
bigger letter that goes with it
Explain to them that those are called uppercase and lowercase
Show them every letter of the alphabet both uppercase and lowercase
Explain the reason for this (They might not get it but still do it anyway)
Test them to see if they know anything
Offer stickers to the children when they get it right
Use the concept map activity
Take the construction paper and put it on the board
The construction paper has a tree map on it
The tree map will serve as the place where the students will organize uppercase
letters from lowercase letters by putting them in the correct category
Computer Time! Have each student go to their assigned computer and play the
upper- and lowercase
game
Towards the end of the week send them home with the tracing worksheet so
they can practice at home

Assessment:
To tests the students knowledge after the week of the lesson we will do a class
test on the white board and/or an individual test
By writing a letter on the board either uppercase or lowercase I will call on each
student to give me the answer
The individual test will be a mix up between uppercase and lowercase letters
and next to the letter will be a box where the student must fill in the correct
letter.
After grading the papers it will show who needs more work, that way we can
work more with that student and get them to where they need to be
