The 40-year-old crisis

For some time now Ive noticed some thoughts flying around in my mind
about hitting 40. Though it is not very worrying at the moment, actually I
think that Im feeling what psychologists name the 40-year-old crisis. It is
something that appears gradually, as a result of the physical and
emotional changes that unavoidably go along the passing of time.
Instead of thinking the things Ive done wrong, Ive not done and I would
like to, I try to see this period as a kind of opportunity. I aim to take seriously
what some experts tell us about how to keep our mind and body fit. The
neuroscientist and Human Physiology professor Dr. Francisco Mora asserts
that delaying aging or successful aging is in our hands. It depends on
lifestyle in 75 per cent, while the other 25 per cent depends on genetic
contribution. Furthermore, he provides us with twelve keys for this aim,
three of which Ive already put into practice.
The first key is learning a language as a mental exercise that keeps the
brain active. Secondly, Im running for one hour, three times per week, as
aerobic exercise oxygenates the brain and creates antioxidants substances.
Moreover, I try to feed myself less and more healthily in order to avoid
many diseases.
Despite the difficult moments in which we are immersed, I make an effort to
live with illusion, in order to find the meaning of life and to be happy with
little and achievable things. And Ill do that for as long as I can.
