The only thing constant in business is change!

Prerequisites for Implementing Change

Most companies are coping with an ever increasing volume, speed

and complexity of change. Any organizations ability to move and
respond to these pressures is limited by the ability of its leadership
team to effectively manage the human elements of change. After
all, change affects and is managed by an organizations people.

There are eight Prerequisites for Implementing Change (PICs).

People
&
Measures

CMS Organizational Change Implementation (OCI) Workshop is a

two-day interactive workshop designed for up to 25 people. This
workshop will ensure that your leadership team has the knowledge
and skills they need to effectively manage major change initiatives.

The Value Gap

Major change projects are designed to create significant value.
However, most change projects fail to realize the potential value
identified during the design phase this is called The Value Gap.
The Value Gap has both a design and an implementation
component. The Design Gap arises because many times
organizations elect not to implement the whole solution they
designed. The Implementation Gap arises when a project does not
achieve the desired objectives on-time and within budget.

Effectively managing the human elements of change successfully

addresses this Implementation Gap. Most companies succeed in
achieving their growth and profitability targets when they reduce the
Implementation Gap. CMS OCI Workshop helps your Leadership
Team address the human elements of change, and reduce the
Implementation Gap, by teaching them how to manage the
Prerequisites for Implementing Change.

STRATEGY DESIGN

Executive Sponsorship Does the organization have the

ongoing commitment to implement the change from the highest
levels?
Motivation Does the leadership team share a common belief
that the cost of changing is less than the cost of staying the
same? Do they demonstrate enough passion to drive the
change?
Vision Does the leadership team share a common vision of
how the organization needs to behave in the future? Can they
communicate this vision down through the organization?
Implementation Project Planning & Management Does a
well-documented and structured implementation plan and project
management approach exist? Is the organization moving fast
enough?
Cascading Sponsorship Is accountability for the change
cascading down through the various levels of the organizations?
Managing Resistance Is resistance to change actively
surfaced and managed? Is resistance viewed as a sign that
something is wrong with the change project?
Change Agent Skills Do the people charged with making the
change happen have the willingness to take the political risk and
possess the skills and ability to be effective change agents?
People & Measures Does the leadership team have the right
skills, willingness and abilities to initiate and sustain the change?
Are their performance measures reinforcing the desired changes
in behaviours?

Workshop Summary

CMS OCI Workshop is a two-day interactive session

suitable for senior executives down to shop floor
employees. Each session is customized to focus on your
particular business issues. The workshop provides a
combination of the following training styles: mini-lectures,
role plays and simulations, small group discussion and
application, open discussion / Q&A, and many relevant
business examples.

Benefits to Your Company

Participants will learn how to implement major change and

achieve the desired objectives on-time and within budget
by:
Identifying the key roles to manage during change
Surfacing and managing resistance
Assessing the risks associated with the change
Developing the appropriate implementation strategies
to manage the risks
Narrowing the Implementation Gap

In addition to these key concepts, participants will also practice

applying CMS PIC Checklist Assessment. The PIC Checklist
Assessment is an assessment tool of approximately 50 questions
designed to assist the Leadership Team with the effective
management of change. The PIC Checklist Assessment has had
best results when used:
Before the OCI Workshop to assess either the organizations
implementation history or readiness to change
During the OCI Workshop to be discussed by the Leadership
Team.
After the OCI Workshop and during project implementation to
assess ongoing implementation risks and develop mitigating
strategies
An example of the summary results from the PIC Checklist
