Rights and Responsibilities:
Plagiarism
The most common offense under the Academic Code of Conduct is plagiarism which the
Code defines as the presentation of the work of another person as ones own or without
proper acknowledgement.
This could be material copied word for word from books, journals, internet sites, professors
course notes, etc. It could be material that is paraphrased but closely resembles the original
source. It could be the work of a fellow student, for example, an answer on a quiz, data for a
lap report, a paper or assignment completed by another student. It might be a paper
purchased through one of the many available sources. Plagiarism does not refer to words

alone- it can also refer to copying images, graphs, tables, and ideas. Presentation is not
limited to written work. It also includes oral presentations. Computer assignments and
artistic works. Finally, if you translate the work of another person into French or English and
do not cite the source, this is also plagiarism.
In Simple Words:
Do not copy, paraphrase or translate anything from anywhere without saying where you
obtained it!

Homework Policy:
Homework is an essential part of understanding the lecture material. The homework will be
collected at the due date during class time. Homework will be graded and returned. Solutions
will be posted online, and will be discussed in class, if necessary. When working on
homework, you may discuss the concepts of solving each problem, but not the details and
calculations/answers. Individual work is required, and strongly encouraged as practice for
the exams. You are also allowed (and encouraged) to ask the instructor questions, although
you should try to think about the problems before asking. Please note that the homework
must be submitted on the due date in class.
Exam Policy:
Exams will cover material given in class (lectures, notes, handouts, slides, homework, etc.).
Exams are closed-book, closed-notes. A sheet that includes most formulas related to the
exam questions will be attached, if necessary. A grade of zero will be assigned for missed
exams. No exams will be returned.
Attendance Policy:
Regular attendance is expected and encouraged. Each student is responsible for all material
and administrative instructions given during the lecture period. Instructions will not be
repeated outside of class. Eating, chewing, sleeping, talking, cell phone use or working on
other assignments will lower the students participation grade and is inappropriate,
discourteous, and inexcusable.

Set of Recommendations:
Lecture notes and handouts are part of our class. You are responsible for reviewing these
materials. The exams and homework are going to cover them.
Homework is not enough to cover the materials in this class. Therefore, it cannot stand
alone as a study tool. You need to review other materials to be prepared for the exams.
Study the presented material directly after class to cope with the different course
materials that we study. This will shorten your time of study.
Your assignments need to be handed in with your name, course number, assignment
number, and page number on each sheet. Neatness is important and will be considered
when grading assignments
