MAINTENANCE & CLEANING

1. Hydrophobic Filter
The hydrophobic filter should be replaced after one month
of patient use or when a reduction of the air flow rate is
noticed. It must be replaced in the event fluids have entered the filter. To replace the hydrophobic filter follow this
procedure.
A. Turn off power.
B. Disconnect hydrophobic filter from tubing.
C. Attach new hydrophobic filter to tubing with green dot
toward the enclosure. Incorrect installation will affect
performance and may damage pump.
D. Turn on power.
E. Adjust vacuum to desired level.

Motor and Pump Description:

1/7 HP, thermally protected, SP, oil-less piston
Vacuum Pump
Dimensions:
Enclosure - 12(L) x 12(W) x 11(H)
305mm x 305mm x 280mm
Assembly - 25 x 25 x 37.5(H)
635mm x 635 mm x 953mm
Weight:
Shipping - 43 pounds ( 19.5 kg)
Net - 36 pounds (16.3 kg)
Duty:

Check the degree of vacuum by pinching off the patient tube.

The amount of vacuum will register on the vacuum gauge. To
increase the vacuum, turn the regulator knob clockwise. To
decrease the vacuum turn the knob counterclockwise. Set
the vacuum to the desired level. Your pump is now ready
for patient use. Use only the vacuum setting directed by
your physician or qualified health care professional.
Using a setting higher than instructed may lead to a
life threatening situation.

SET UP

2. Collection Jar
It is recommended that the jar and stopper be cleaned after every
use by one of the following methods:

1.

A.

To empty the jar, turn the unit OFF and allow vacuum to
return to zero (0). Remove the tubing from vacuum port on
lid, lift jar out of support bracket, remove lid and empty jar.

B.

Vigorously wash jars, stoppers and tubing in detergent and

water solution.

Continuous Duty

In order to become famillar with this unit, note the position of

the following features: ON/OFF switch, foot switch, vacuum
gauge, control knob, hydrophobic filter, vacuum and inlet
ports on jar stopper/lid, and float (mechanical shut-off ) under
jar stopper/lid.

2.

The mechanical shut-off valve under the jar lid will stop suction if collected fluids reach the shut-off valve level. If this
happens, turn the unit off and empty the collection jar. It is
recommended the jar be emptied when fluid level reaches
2800 cc and after every use.

3.

The hydrophobic filter is designed to filter out bacteria, it

is also highly sensitive to liquids. When this filter comes In
contact with liquid the suction flow will stop, if this happens
the filter must be replaced. Do not operate without a hydrophobic filter. If the unit is used without a hydrophobic
filter, the manufacturer is not responsible for possible
damage or contamination to the vacuum pump. NOTE:
It is recommended that hydrophobic filter replacements be
kept on hand for ready substitution. it is also recommended
that replacement jar assemblies be kept on hand.

METHOD 1

Soak for 20 minutes in a solution of 2% acetic acid A 2%

Acetic Acid Solution may be made by using 20ccs (4
teaspoons) white vinegar in 1 Liter (1 quart) of cool water. A product such as Cidex or equivalent may also be
used, or the above parts can be soaked in an activated
dialdehyde solution. You can also follow manufacturers
directions for recommended procedure.

After soaking is completed remove jar, stopper, and

tubing shake off excess solution, and let air dry on a
piece of paper toweling.
METHOD 2

Place parts in autoclave as follows, ensuring parts are

not touching.

Jar with open end down.

Stopper and stopper with float, float with open end

down.

OPERATION
WARNING: PROPER USE OF THIS PRODUCT IS NECESSARY
TO AVOID PHYSICAL HARM. IMPROPER USE CAN CAUSE
PERSONAL INJURY AND/OR TISSUE DAMAGE. THIS PRODUCT SHOULD NOT BE USED UNLESS THE OPERATOR HAS
BEEN INSTRUCTED BY A PHYSICIAN OR OTHER QUALIFIED
HEALTH CARE PROFESSIONAL
1.

Check to see that the ON/OFF switch is in OFF position.

2.

Plug the line cord into a grounded electrical outlet making

sure that it is the same voltage as indicated on the unit
nameplate.

3.

Be sure the length of tubing from the bottle to the hydrophobic

filter is dry.

4.

Turn ON/OFF switch to ON position. Switch can be placed in

ON or ON (Foot Control). This allows on/off operation with a
foot pedal controlled air switch. To connect foot pedal - insert
foot pedal tube into fitting located on the back of the housing.
(SEE FIG #3)

Autoclave for 3 to 5 minute cycle at 270 degrees F (132

degrees C).
NOTE: Tubing is not autoclavable and should be cleaned
using METHOD 1 above.
C.

For contagious matter, consult with a physician or

qualified health care professional.

3. Vacuum Pump
The vacuum pump is permanently lubricated and requires no
oiling or greasing.

OFF (encendido/apagado), interruptor de pie, escala para
el vaco, manija de control, filtro hidrfobico, vlvula de
admisin en la tapa del jarro, y cierre mecnico debajo de
la tapa del jarro.

A.

METHOD 1

izquierda a derecha. Para reducir el vaco, mover la manija
derecha a izquierda. Poner el vaco al nivel deseado. Su
bomba est lista para usarla en el paciente. Solamente
usar el vaco fijado por el mdico o profesional competente de cuidado de salud. El uso un nivel ms alto
