PROGRAM BENEFITS

This program is open to students with

a demonstrated commitment to
promoting diversity and inclusion in
STEM disciplines. Students from
underrepresented backgrounds are
especially encouraged to apply.

$4,250 stipend

Applicants must also meet the

following criteria:
Have a strong interest in pursuing
graduate school (Ph.D. or M.D.-Ph.D.)
Have U.S. citizenship or permanent
residency
Be a rising sophomore, junior or
non-graduating senior

Free housing
Travel to and from Boston
Travel sponsorship to a scientific
conference to present summer
research
Intensive weekly workshops
focused on professional
development, with an emphasis
on scientific communication and
topics of diversity and inclusion
Social and team-building activities

Major in physical, biological, or

computer sciences, engineering
or mathematics
Be currently enrolled in a 4-year
college or university or have
confirmed enrollment upon
completion of the program

SUMMER RESEARCH

This NIH-funded program engages
students in mentored, cutting-edge
research with leading scientists.
The program also offers an intensive curriculum outside the lab,
emphasizing communication,
collaborative problem-solving,
graduate school preparation, and
demystifying scientific careers.
BSRPs mission is to diversify
the biomedical field.

Have a cumulative GPA of 3.2 or

above (on a 4.0 scale)
No previous research is required,
but applicants must demonstrate
a strong interest in biomedical
research

CANCER GENOMIC
SCHOL AR S (BCGS)?
This innovative two-year program
engages talented participants in
comprehensive and immersive
research, academic and career
guidance. The program is designed
to diversify the biomedical research
field by supporting the development
of knowledge, expertise and skills
both inside and outside the lab.

PROGRAM BENEFITS

PROGRAM ELIGIBILITY

BCGS participants will carry out

research as paid, full-time Associate
Computational Biologists or Research
Associates, working side by side with
leading scientists within the Broad
Cancer Program.

This program is open to individuals

with a demonstrated interest in
issues around diversity and
inclusion in STEM disciplines.
Underrepresented students are
especially encouraged to apply.

Participants will receive a salary

of $38,000$60,000 (depending on
experience and skills) and access
to health benefits. In addition, BCGS
scholars will engage in academic
and professional development
opportunities including:

Applicants also must meet the

Comprehensive scientific
communication training

Have U.S. citizenship or permanent

residency
Completed a four-year university
or college degree not more than
two years before the start of the
program

Development of individualized
training plan

Majored in the biological, physical

or computer sciences, engineering
or mathematics

Career-oriented seminars and

workshops

Attained a minimum GPA of 3.5

on a 4.0 scale

Discussions of topics such as

scientific collaborations, ethics,
support networks, stress manage-
ment, diversity and inclusion, and
the culture around science

Participated in significant prior

research experience

Graduate school preparation

(statements, recommendations,
GRE, etc.)
