8. By the intercession of St. Michael and the celestial Choir of Archangels, may God give us
faithfulness, in order that we attain the vision of glory. Amen.
9. By the intercession of St. Michael and the celestial Choir of Angels, may God grant us their
protection in this mortal life and their company hereafter in eternal glory. Amen.
The chaplet is concluded with the following prayers:
O glorious Prince St. Michael, chief and commander of the heavenly hosts, guardian of souls,
vanquisher of rebel spirits, servant in the house of the Divine Master, and our admirable
companion, thou who dost shine with excellence and superhuman virtue, vouchsafe to deliver us
from all evil, who turn to thee with confidence, and enable us by thy gracious protection to serve
God more and more faithfully every day.
V. Pray for us, O glorious St. Michael, Prince of the Divine Assembly of Jesus the Savior.
R. That we may be made worthy of the promises of Christ.
Prayer
Almighty and Everlasting God, who by a prodigy of goodness and a merciful desire for the
salvation of all people, hast appointed the most glorious Archangel, St. Michael, Prince of Thy
gathered faithful ones and Holy Realms; make us worthy, we beseech Thee, to be delivered from
all enemies of our mind and heart, body and soul, that none of them may harass us at the hour of
death, but that we may be conducted into the august presence of Thy Divine Majesty. This we
beg through the merits of Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
In 1751 Saint Michael appeared to Antonia dAstonac, a Carmelite nun in Portugal, and told
her that he wished to be honored by nine salutations corresponding to the nine Choirs of Angels,
which should consist of one Our Father and three Hail Marys in honor of each of the angelic
choirs. Whosoever would practice this devotion in his honor would have, when approaching the
Holy Table, an escort of nine angels chosen from each one of the nine choirs. In addition, for the
daily recital of these nine salutations he promised his continual assistance and that of all the holy
angels during life, and the transition to death. This version is a new translation from the original
Portuguese, slightly modified.
The words in boldface type indicate the essential meditation concept for each Choir, and
are a helpful way to commit the nine salutations to memory. The nine Choirs of Angels can also
be linked to the Sephirot in the Qabbalahs Tree of Life. Since the Angelic realms are above this
earthly realm, Malkuth, the nine Angelic Choirs coordinate with the upper levels of the Sephirot.
Care should be taken when entering mystical experiences that the believer has sufficient
grounding and preparation. A spiritual director or companion is important. It is also helpful to
use the spice box from the Jewish Havdalah service to bring one back to ground level. If you
dont have a spice box, simply keep some cloves, nutmeg, allspice, or other sweet spice handy to
smell when you are descending from the heights of prayer.
The chaplet consists of nine groups of one large bead and three small beads with four large
beads and a St. Michael medal attached. If you do not have a chaplet of St. Michael, you may
request one from Fr. Foss. Donations to cover costs are appreciated.
