Sean Rash Wins PBA Badger Open for 10th Career Title
By Jerry Schneider - PBA
ALLEN PARK, Mich. - With two major titles
and more than five Professional Bowlers
Association Tour titles to his credit, 2011-12
PBA Player of the Year Sean Rash established
his PBA Hall of Fame eligibility three years
ago. But theres something undeniably satisfying about reaching the 10-title milestone.
Rash, at age 34, became the 51st player to
enter the 10-win club by beating another 10time winner Wes Malott of Pflugerville, Texas,
259-195, in the championship match of the PBA
Badger Open at Thunderbowl Lanes. The finals
for the third tournament of the PBA Fall Swing
aired on the CBS Sports Network.

Ive tried everything doctor, chiropractor, massage therapy, ice, you name it. Ive got it
to where its manageable and
doesnt have an obvious effect
on my bowling. Overall, Im
working out to get in better
shape, but as far as my hand is
concerned, the key is to reduce
the pressure on my hand. As
you get older I guess things are
going to happen.
Rash, the No. 2 qualifier,
advance to the title championship by beating young
Canadian Graham Fach, 224205, in the semifinal. Fach, a
rookie of the year candidate,
won the Barbasol PBA Players
Championship earlier this season.
The finals started with No. 5
qualifier and three-time reigning Player of the Year Jason
Belmonte squeaking out a onepin victory over No. 4 qualifier
Francois Lavoie, 226-225. In
the second match, Fach dominated beating Belmonte, 249161.
With his victory, Rash joined
Bear Open winner EJ Tackett
and Wolf Open titlist Tom
Daugherty as the first three
players to earn berths in the
King of the Swing telecast,
which will feature the four
PBA Fall Swing title winners
plus the player who finishes
highest in overall points without winning a title.

After connecting on her first 24 shots, Kuhlkin made a small adjustment to start Game 3.
I had three good strikes in the 10th frame of Game 2 but could tell
the ball was hooking a little more on the backend, so I made a parallel
move, said Kuhlkin, a two-time National Collegiate Athletic
Association national champion at Nebraska. It gave me the exact
reaction I was looking for, but I stoned an 8 pin. I was disappointed
that it stood, but I was satisfied that I had thrown a good shot and made
the right move.
As Kuhlkin continued to strike on her way to the 10th frame, the
nerves mounted as she decided to share the moment with the world
through social media.
News of her run quickly spread as Kuhlkin finished off the performance, and shes thankful for the support she received throughout the
worldwide bowling community.
One of my teammates had the idea to show the final frame through
Facebook Live, said Kuhlkin, a former Junior Team USA member
who won a gold medal in doubles competition with Sarah Lokker at
the 2014 World Bowling Youth Championships in Hong Kong. I didnt want to go up there and throw a bad shot, so Im thrilled that it
worked out the way it did and I was able to execute the way I had been
the entire night.
Its been touching to have so many people reach out and congratulate me. Ive gotten messages from people across the world, and thats
such an incredible thing. It was so cool to have shared that moment
with so many people.
Despite the attention, Kuhlkin notes the most important part of her
effort on the lanes was getting to share it with her parents, Mark and
Ricki, and a local community that has supported her throughout the
years.
Its definitely an amazing accomplishment, and its very special that
I was able to share it with my parents and a lot of people that I care
about, Kuhlkin said. That moment is something I will cherish for the
rest of my bowling career.
Several PWBA titlists have been involved in the progression of the
womans national high series record, including 2016 PWBA Lexington
Open champion Bryanna Cot (879), three-time winner Jackie
Mitskavich (877) and PWBA and USBC Hall of Famers Anne Marie
Duggan (865) and Jeanne Naccarato (864). PWBA and USBC Hall of
Famer Bev Ortner became the first woman to roll an 800 series in Oct.
1968, posting an 818 series.

After finding the condition wasnt playing the way he had hoped,
Ciminelli moved inside and struck on five of his first six shots to build a
big enough lead to hold on. Raymond, a sixth-year PBA member who was
trying for his first PBA Tour title, was behind by 43 pins in the fifth frame,
but made a ball change and threw five strikes in a row to get back into the
match. Needing three strikes in the 10th to tie Ciminelli and force a rolloff, he left the 6-10 on his second try in the final frame.
Raymond advanced to the title match with a come-from-behind 207-193
win over Kristopher Prather of Milton, Fla., ending Prathers bid for his
first PBA Tour title. Prather led into the final frame as Raymond struggled
to find the pocket on the PBA strips lane condition, which he had selected for the match. But after rolling only one strike in the first seven frames,
Raymond put together a late string of four strikes to take the lead and he
won the match when Prather, needing a strike, left a solid 7 pin on his first
shot in the 10th frame.
Prather spoiled PBA Hall of Famer Walter Ray Williams Jr.s bid for his
first PBA Tour title since winning the 2010 USBC Masters, 224-191, in the
first match of the four-player stepladder finals. Prather, as the higher qualifier, selected the flat U.S. Open lane condition for the match and threw an
early turkey to take a 23-pin lead after five frames that Williams was unable
to overcome.

Johnny Toscano 278-790 in Youth Travelers

By Vince Albrecht
OAKLAND, NJ The Stan Niemiec Youth Travel League visits six venues this year, one of which, Holiday Bowl, the youthful travelers will
gleefully see four times. True to form, the bowler-friendly Oakland
house yielded forty-six 200s, four huge 700 sets, five 650+ threesomes and two 600+ series. Its then no surprise when the beleaguered
plastic-coats, seemingly safe in their equilateral triangles, panic and
cower in the pits when they see the arrival of the YTLs talented young
bowlers.
Seventeen-year-old North Rockland H.S. senior Johnny Toscano must
have had a Cheshire cat grin when he stepped to the approach to start his
threesome, sensing he was going to trigger an onslaught of Holidays pin
decks. Mercilessly pounding the maples, Toscano exploded with a spectacular triple deuce outing posting 278-264-248-790, leading his Hi-Tor
I squad past T-Bowl, 23-9. Adding on for the victors were Gabriel Duran
222 and Nick Sparta 211. Leading T-Bowl were newcomers Tom
Luchetta 241 and Chris Rysz 201.
Sizzling Derek Lewandowski smoked the pin decks with games of
232-253-268-753, igniting torrid defending champ Bowler City III to a
27.5-4.5 mashing of Lodi. The other BC III high rollers were Nathan
Tombo with 222-203-226-651, Tiffany Sucero 211-202 and Peter Bondy
204-203. Best for the Lodi quartet were Tyler and Jake Nappi with 246
and 209 respectively.
Holiday I rebounded from last weeks rough start with a 905-2516 net
performance. Frank Magyar rolled 236-255-234-725, Nick Cilento 220247-203-670, David Nell 245-213-649 and Angela Dinallo 190. Even
so, the 19-13 win over Bowler City II didnt come easily as southpaw
Matt Burzynski pummeled the pins with a superb 266-245-233-744 to
keep BC II in the match.
Indian Hills senior Jared Duncan strung games of 209-244-21-669 to
lead Holiday II to a 22-10 pasting of Hi-Tor II whose best scores came
from newcomers Nicole Cona 212-215-623 and Isabella Palamaro 211.
Closing out the days action, Nick Fabiano blasted 264-200-656, Matt
Russell 223-224-208-655 and Ryan Kitz 205 as Montvale trounced
Bowler City I, 26.5-5.5. Scoring impressively for BC I were Kristen
Benavente 234, Janina Santoro 227 and Gabriella Pangaro 211-201.
