The organization is backed with a pool of highly competent, motivated and

Incorporated in 1991, SCC Innovasia is a 100% Filipino-owned private
corporation. It is one of the largest contract manufacturers of personal and skin-care
products in the country today.
Through the years, SCC has consistently won the Third Party Manufacturer of the
Year award given by one of its major principals, Johnson & Johnson, and the Salambao
Award for Business Excellence given by the Paranaque Chamber of Commerce and
Industry.
Also awarded by the Department of Labor and Employment with the Certificate
of Compliance on General Labor Standards and Occupational Health and Safety
Standards in 2014, SCC is a 500-strong non-unionized manufacturing enterprise.

IV. WATER AND WASTEWATER TREATMENT

The main wastes that they generate are the rejected products which cannot be
reprocessed according to the employees. These rejects are disposed and collected by a
third party company. Wastewater is not a problem. SCC Innovasia Inc. pride themselves
as one of the first to employ double reverse osmosis in their water and wastewater
treatment facility.
A. Water Treatment
Since the company produces health care products, the water they are using for
the whole process, (from operation to cleaning the equipment) is sterilized.
B. Energy Source
The company uses commercial electricity for their operation.

V. ROLES OF CHEMICAL ENGINEER

Chemical engineers are very important in SCC Innovasia, Inc. They are seen in
Quality Control, Process and in the Administrative area in the plant. Chemical engineers
are most needed in the process where they maintain and control the conditions of the
reaction tank. Also, the quality of the product is at stake if the desired conditions in the
tank are not met. They also Evaluate and improve on processes in manufacturing system,
Maintain reliable and safe manufacturing systems while improving production rates,
effeciencies,yields,costs and changeovers, Develop and implement systems that optimize
all phases of production process, Reasearch and purchase new manufacturing
technology.

VI. OBSERVATIONS AND RECOMMENDATIONS

It is so very clean and beautiful with a very pleasant smell of the surroundings.
They are very strict in wearing Personal Protective Equipment (PPE). They have a very
clean processing area and have a very systematic process.
The engineers have done a very good job to almost everything from plant layout,
cleanliness, equipment calibration, use of PPE, quality assurance and instrumentation and
process control. They have organized chemical, physical & microbiological analysis,

incoming materials, in-process & finished goods testing, formula & packaging
development, stability testing, process filling validation
It was stated during the plant tour that in order to ensure release of good quality
air from its dust infestation, they employ air quality emission analyzer. With regards to
water, they have their own wastewater treatment facility.
However, their solid waste, mainly the rejects were only rejected for wrong
information in the label and insufficient amount of product. To minimize it, they could
allow the employees to take it home with the insurance that the rejects are for family or
personal consumption only and not for commercialization or find way to reprocess it into
another product. Better yet, recover some of the ingredients which are valuable or maybe
hazardous to the environment. This would minimize the wastes that are going to be
dumped in the landfill.
