TEMS VISUALIZATION BRIDGING THE OPTIMIZATION GAP

SEE YOUR NETWORK IN A WHOLE NEW WAY
WITH CALL TRACE DATA
For mobile operators that are serious about delivering ubiquitous quality and
availability, traditional network performance management tools simply arent
enough. To home in on problems that were impossible to pinpoint before
(those in difficult-to-drive-test spots or related to individual subscriber or
phone modelissues), operators must complement their network performance
management and drive-testing tools with advanced network visualization and
optimization capabilities.
Breakthrough network optimization tools such as TEMS Visualization use
subscriber-centric event-based data collected at the OSS to bridge the critical
gap between performance management systems and drive testing. While
performance management tools provide high-level key performance indicators
(KPIs) from counter data, and drive-testing tools capture thin slices of network
traffic, TEMS Visualization derives detailed information from large volumes of
live network traffic.
TEMS Visualization comes in a desktop edition (Professional) and a client/
server edition (Enterprise). Since the release of TEMS Visualization 9.0
Professional, Ascom has fortified the desktop version of the tool with many of
the same rich features found in TEMS Visualization Enterprise.

RADIO NETWORK OPTIMIZATION

Built-in advanced algorithms enable efficient radio
network optimization. Examples for WCDMA include:
neighbor relation optimization including inter-frequency and IRAT, pilot pollution detection and geolocation, RF-diagnostics using DL and UL radio measurements and identification of overshooting cells.

IN-DEPTH TROUBLESHOOTING
With more details than counters and more coverage
than drive testing, previously hidden issues in the
radio network can be identified. Performance issues
can be isolated to the cell, phone model or even individual subscriber level. From high-level statistical
analysis, engineers can directly drill down into individual call-by-call analysis.

OPERATIONAL EFFECTIVENESS

TEMS VISUALIZATION ENTERPRISE

By utilizing subscriber-centric call trace data collected in the radio networks nodes, TEMS
Visualization empowers operators to improve network quality and operational efficiency with virtually no additional costs for data collection and postprocessing.

SCALABILITY AND FLEXIBILITY

TEMS Visualization comes in a desktop edition as
well as a scalable Enterprise edition, the latter which
utilizes dedicated servers for automated data processing, with multiple clients accessing the centralized database. Large volumes of data can be processed, and statistical data can be stored and
analyzed over long periods. For information on flexible, scalable TEMS Visualization options, see the
Editions row in the Features table.

Features

Description

Multidimensional KPI View

Quick identification and troubleshooting of poorly performing cells, clusters, WCDMA phone models, and individual
subscribers. Statistics for accessibility, retainability, mobility,
and packet-switched data performance are aggregated
from WCDMA GPEH/UETR/Megamon GEO, GSM R-PMO/CTR/
MTR, and LTE CellTrace/UE Trace data with direct drilldown to
detailed call analysis for problem calls.

Vendors/technologies
supported

Ericsson (GSM, WCDMA, and LTE) and Nokia Siemens (WCDMA).

Editions

TEMS Visualization Professional is a desktop version. TEMS

Visualization Enterprise offers a number of scalable options,
including Starter System (16 cores), Base System (32 cores),
Expanded System (64 cores), and Maximum System (96
cores).

Geolocation

Strong geolocation and visualization features: Geolocate problem events, follow calls and handoffs on a map, determine
neighbor optimization graphically. Helps engineers know
where calls are dropping and provides statistical view of
problem areas.

Other GSM Functionality

Cell timeslot monitor, estimated positioning, binned maps,

task manager, and more.

TEMS VISUALIZATION ENABLES NETWORK

OPERATORS AND SERVICES PROVIDERS TO:
Automatically post-process subscriber-centric, event-based data generated
by the network infrastructure, so it is ready for use.
Analyze and organize that information, including statistical data, for radio
network troubleshooting, optimization, functionality verification, and better
decision making.
Find network coverage and quality problems that were impossible to
pinpoint before.
Achieve optimal performance from their networks, allowing them to improve
network KPIs and reduce subscriber churn.

Troubleshoot holistically across todays multivendor, multitechnology network

environments to uncover problems not detected by drive testing or high-level
statistical analysis, resolve those problems rapidly, and optimize network
performance and resource utilization.
