Baptism is an ordinance of the New Testament, ordained
by Jesus Christ. It was started by John the Baptizer and
symbolizes the death, burial and resurrection of the new
believer. Rom 6:4-8 Therefore we are buried with him by
baptism into death: that like as Christ was raised up from the
dead by the glory of the Father, even so we also should walk
in newness of life. 5 For if we have been planted together in
the likeness of his death, we shall be also in the likeness of his
resurrection: 6 Knowing this, that our old man is crucified with
him, that the body of sin might be destroyed, that henceforth
we should not serve sin. 7 For he that is dead is freed from
sin. 8 Now if we be dead with Christ, we believe that we shall
also live with him: Every new believer must have their old
nature (old man) die in this life. Baptism is also symbolized as
a seed planted in the ground that must die so that a new plant
can grow from it. John 12:24 Verily, verily, I say unto you,
Except a corn (grain) of wheat fall into the ground and die, it
abideth alone: but if it die, it bringeth forth much fruit.
The word baptism () is from the original NT Greek
language, which simply means in Greek to immerse in water.
If a ship was sunk at sea, in Greek they would say that it was
baptized. If someone put their hands in a bowl of water for
washing, in Greek they would say that they are baptizing their
hands. If someone poured water or sprinkled water on
their hands, the Greeks would not use the word baptize. The
word baptize means immerse, it does not mean pour,

neither does it mean sprinkle.

The later custom of baptizing by sprinkling or pouring,
some people say, was invented, years after the death of the
Apostles, for the purpose of infant baptism. Infant baptism
was never practiced in the NT. In the NT all baptisms were
expected to be made after an adult person's conscious
decision of faith in Jesus Christ; after their conversion to
Christianity. Small children were not considered to be
responsible nor eligible for such decisions. However, there is
another purpose for the invention of sprinkling or pouring
baptism. In some places around the world it was difficult to
find a body of water to baptize someone in, sometimes there
wasn't any. Either that or it may have been in winter time and
all the bodies of water were frozen. On a few occasions,
some people have broken the ice on the top of the frozen
water and baptized people in ice water....... and nobody got
sick.
Ideally, baptism should be done as close to the NT
practice as possible, which was always done by immersion
exclusively for adult people who were believers in Jesus
Christ. No infant baptisms. Each person needs to make their
own choice to believe in Jesus Christ. Any alterations to
baptism by immersion due to unusual circumstances should
only be done under the most difficult conditions and only with
the leading of the Holy Spirit. It is possible that a sprinkling or
pouring baptism be performed temporarily until conditions
were right for a second immersion baptism later on.
(immersion baptism really means immersion immersion,
because baptism means immersion in Greek. In Greek it is
not understandable to say that someone has an immersion
by sprinkling, or that someone has an immersion by
pouring)

Some churches have put an over emphasis on what

words should be pronounced during the actual immersion into
the water. They even go as far as to condemn to hell fire
anyone from another church who doesn't say the words in the
right order (or exclusively the right words at the point of
immersion), as though those other people have not really
placed their faith in Jesus Christ..... Or, as though those
people from other churches have been baptized in someone
else's name.
In only one place in the NT it says to baptize in the name
of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit, which is
found in: Mat 28:19 Go ye therefore, and teach all nations,
baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and
of the Holy Ghost (Spirit). In the book of Acts numerous
times it is mentioned to baptize in Jesus name. (Act 2:38
8:12 8:16 10:48 19:4,5 22:16 Rom 6:3) Sometimes it is
mentioned being baptized in the Holy Spirit (Ghost). (Acts
10:47 11:16) Therefore, there is a conflict as to what words
are supposed to be said during immersion into the water.
During the actual immersion into the water it's not
necessary to say anything at all. The person's faith in the Lord
Jesus Christ could all be stated beforehand. Why do some
people cause divisions in the body of Christ over insignificant
ridiculous things? Do they really believe that God will
condemn someone to eternal hell fire just because they said
the name Jesus Christ just before immersion rather than
during the immersion? Or if they say the words: in the name
of the Father, Son and Holy Spirit during or before
immersion? Whenever these words are said during the
immersion, the name Jesus Christ is always said just before
the immersion. The church leaders who propagate these
ridiculous divisions in the body of Christ are wolves in sheep's

clothing working for Satan. They have no business

propagating these false teachings.
And, there are other churches that refuse to even practice
the custom of baptism at all. Since Jesus Christ himself gave
the command to baptize, those people who refuse will be
considered disobedient and they will have no part or
inheritance in the kingdom of Christ. (Mark 16:16) They will
have no part in the marriage supper of the Lamb and will be
denied entrance into the new city of Jerusalem. (Rev. 19:7-9)
