Reviewer for Filipino Long test.

Note: This is a reviewer I made for myself. All of these are just product of how I
understood the article. Dont blame me if ever I made a mistake somewhere.
Filipino is my first language. Please ask for permission first before sharing. I
studied hard for this huhuhuhuhuI hope we all pass
Reading material: Ang Paghahanap ng Weltanschauung ng Pilipino.
Summary for each paragraph:
1) Ayon kay Liu Yutang, ang isang bansa ay naiiba sa ibang bansa tulad
ng pagkakaiba ng magkakapatid sa isang pamilya.

Gumamit ng analogy ang author: Pamilya:Lahi at Kapatid:Bansa.

Ibigsabihin, maaaring parehas ang lahi pero magkaibang bansa.
Halimbawa, Taiwan at China. Parehas na asian at magkalapit ang
kanilang kultura pero magkaiba pa rin silang bansa.
Bawat bansa ay may kanya kanyang symbols. Example: Philippine Flag,
National Anthem etc.
2) Different countries have different and unique symbols. These symbols
result to the countrys a)Philosophy b)Perception of life in its entirety
and depth c)different ways of dealing with problems and everyday life
d)beliefs on the importance of human existence.

Ginamit na halimbawa ang mga Chino. Sinabi ng author na ang mga

chino ay may pagpapahalaga sa mana. Inheritance is valued si much.
Its very important to be able to pass the culture onto the next
generation especially the honor of the family and the surname.
3) The identity of the countrymen and the country itself depends on the
presence of their own philosophy. Its hard to advance when you dont
know yourself. For a country like ours, our journey towards becoming a
maunlad na bayan requires us to have our own pilosopiya
(nangangailangan ng eksplikasyon ng sarili nating pilosopiya.)

Advancement entails knowing oneself.

4) Eksplikasyon at hindi imbensiyon because we dont create
philosophies, we find them. Kung Fu Tze didnt make their philosophy,
there was already a phenomenon and he just constructed the

philosophy and divulged it.( Constructed in a sense that it was

organized into words )

Philosophies are based on the experiences of people. Therefore,

philosophies are nothing but exposition/explanation of smth hidden
buried in the experience.
Eksplikasyon doesnt just mean an interpretation, rather, it means
creating new possibilities and envisioning new projects for the
country.
5) I think, this is the meaning of the weltanschauung that is created in
the Creative Repetition of Martin Heidegger.

1 . Weltanschauung - a c o mp r e h e n si ve c o n c e pt i on o r a p p r e h e ns io n o f t h e
w o r l d e s p e c i a l ly f r o m a s p e c i f i c s t a n d p o in t
-Merriam Webster

6) Martin Heidegger borrowed this concept from Soren Kierkegaard and

he used this is his Sein Und Zeit( Existence and Time ). Therefore, we
can also borrow this concept.

The author says that we can borrow the concept because the author is
trying to find our weltanschauung.
7) Creative repetition doesnt necessarily mean repeating a certain event
or memory. It basically means going back to the past to harness ideas
or concepts that will help us deal with the present and/or the future.
The past didnt happen for nothing, thus we have to know why a
certain event took place. The past is always with us, alive and not yet
finished because we are the past, its part of our identity. To be able to
execute the creative repetition, there should be a historical gap. So
that the perspectives are different. We should be aware of the NOW to
be able to distinguish the difference between past and present.

The past is always with us. It is rich and unlimited. Creative repetition
can help us in many ways: new meaning etc.
8) How do we use the creative repetition in our search and proclamation
of the weltanschauung of filipinos?

This is the end of the Introduction part of exposition.

Body

9) First, we know that theres a filipino history. The filipino experience

covers the past, present and future experiences of a filipino as a
filipino. This means that we will go back to the history of filipinos to be
able to divulge hidden truths in certain experiences. It doesnt mean
that we are gonna copy the actions of the people before. Instead,
what is asked of us is an understanding of the actions of the people in
the context of different time periods: kastila, american, japanese. All
of these constitute to the filipino history. In the midst of all the
differences in these periods, there are hidden meanings that all
constitute to the filipino experience.

We can go back to the past to divulge a present truth. For example we

have words right now that are influenced by different countries. That
means that those countries have affected us so much that even our
language was influenced. To be able to understand the past is to
understand whatever principle or lifestyle we live by right now.
10) According to Dr. Ramon Reyes, there are two ways of identifying
filipino beliefs. One is called as Vital Thoughts. It covers our legends,
songs, rituals, language, oral tradition, idioms, ethnic legals, poliical
and religion rules. The second one is called as Reflexive thoughts. This
covers how we analyze things, how we organized things and how we
make sense out of things. Reflexive thought is also used to connect
two or more vital thoughts. Therefore, reflexive thoughts can re
construct another philosophy/belief.
11) In my opinion, we can find our weltanschauung in our vital thoughts
because these represent our perceptions on the nature, economy,
fellow people and God. All of these make use of language, whether
verbal or action. According to Maurice Marleau-Ponty, wika is not just
a carrier of thought, it is the exact idea it is representing..

Digging into wikang filipino, well be going back to the experience it is

talking about.
12)

I can recommend one filipino tradition, the concept of Tagay/

Tagayan (Shots of alcoholic beverages). This tradition is done all over
the country but is called or referred to differently depending on your
location.

Tagayan use of only one glass in a drinking party.

-shows unity, intimacy and closeness.
-shows street smartness. One glass for all.

Author makes a recommendation at the last part, recommending other

researchers to do a research on tagay because its rich in filipino
culture.
13) Creative repetition is applicable in the analysis of the vital thought
of filipinos. Emergence of reflexive thought caused different ethnic
groups to seek for nation unity. We started to have reflexive thought in
the works of Rizal and Mabini etc. And now we are going through
another period of reflexive thinking because of our decision of joining
modernisation and industrialization. Because of this, we have to
examine our vital again.

Reflexive thought strengthen our unity as a country.

As we step on a new age, we have to examine our pagka-Pilipino.
We should use the current Vital Thoughts to come up with new
philosophies.
14) In simple words, we need both the Vital Thoughts and the Reflexive
Thoughts to come up with the Weltanschauung of Filipino.

Conclusion of the exposition.

Vital thoughts and reflexive thoughts are the keys for the
Weltanschauung.
15) Before we end, I wanna emphasize that searching for the
weltanschauung is not easy. It will only be achieved if we interact with
our fellow filipinos, if we unite with the countrymen in their tears and
dreams and if we share with their life stories.
This research is just a pinch of a bigger picture. Thank you.

The author calls us to action.
