Hull, Jackcase, Spudcan modeled

using beams as dummy with
equivalent stiffness

Simplest & quickest method for

preliminary global analysis

Loads transferred from global

model to local models manually

Local Models can be modeled in

Hull-leg connection can be modeled

as cross of beams

Gap elements in SACS can be used

to
model
leg-hull
connection
correctly.

Member releases used to obtain

force & moment in relevant directions

For eg, for a floating jacking system:

Pinions & guides can be modeled
as compression only gap
elements
Pinion members will transfer only
vertical forces & guides will
transfer only horizontal forces.
This can be achieved by applying
member releases in relevant
directions

Applying Boundary Conditions

Different boundary conditions
applied for different analyses
SACS offer variety of options for
boundary conditions
For example, in elevated
condition, the PINNED fixity can
be used as per SNAME-TR-5A
Spring fixity with translational &
rotational stiffness can also be
used if site-specific soil
properties are to be modeled
accurately

111000

For Transit mode, fixity can be

applied at hull as shown in fig.

Wind Loads

Quasi-Static Analysis
Basic static analysis
Static Analysis with gap elements
Here dynamic amplification of wave/current loads are to be accounted for
by applying a horz. inertia load at hull centre
First order P- Effects may be considered in analysis directly

Dynamic Analysis
Wave response module can be used
Stochastic dynamic analysis can be performed (Random Wave)
Various wave energy spectra including PM, JONSWAP etc. or userdefined spectra can be used
Deterministic dynamic analysis can be performed (Extreme Wave)
Dynamic Amplification Factor (DAF) can be determined for quasi-static
analysis
Transfer functions can be generated for performing spectral fatigue
analysis

Seismic Analysis

To simulate foundation in SACS,

different features are available in
SACS:
Linear spring elements with 3
translational & 3 rotational stiffness
Force -deflection gap elements which
can be used to simulate non-linear
springs to simulate P-Y, T-Z & Q-Z
curves

Punch Through of a Jack-up Rig

23 | WWW.BENTLEY.COM

The No Load gap element can be used

for loss of support
Analysis can be carried out with a user
specified deflection which will give
redistribution of load on legs & leg-hull
connection for that particular load case
Alternatively, a full elasto-plastic collapse
can be carried out
Define a non-linear spring element
demonstrating a force-deflection curve.
With increase in vertical load at each load
step, the stiffness will vary & at punchthrough condition, sudden loss of stiffness
can be simulated
Another option is to carry out collapse
using specified deflection load case at
each step of punch-through
