The word list in the lower part of the window shows a list of the words
registered in the dictionary selected in the dictionary list. To add a word to
the dictionary, click the "Add" button to the right side of the word list. You
can double-click a word that is already registered in the dictionary to edit it
or make a slight change and add it as a new word.
To delete a word that is registered in the dictionary, select the word and
then click the "Delete" button.
Word
Click the "Add" button on the right side of the word list, or double-click a
word in the word list, to open the "Word" window.

In the "Word" and "Pronunciation" fields, enter the word and pronunciation
you want to add. If the information you enter for "Word" and "Pronunciation"
is incomplete, a description of the problem will be shown in the message
field in the bottom left side of the window. Make the necessary changes.
To check the standard phoneme after entering a word, click the "Convert"
button. The phoneme used in the standard dictionary is entered for
"Pronunciation". At this time, if a word that is not registered in the standard
dictionary is entered, the default phoneme is entered. If you add a word
that is already registered, it will be overwritten.
The phoneme list on the right side of the window shows the phoneme that
can be set for "Pronunciation" as well as pronunciation samples. You can
double-click a phoneme to enter it for "Pronunciation".
Revert to Default Lyrics
You can reset the lyrics entered for the selected notes.
For an English singer, the lyric reverts to "Ooh [u:]."
For notes where the phoneme is protected, the protection is disabled and the
note reverts to the default lyrics.
Phoneme Protect
You can enable or disable the Phoneme Protect function.

- 40 -

Note Property
Note Property opens the "Note Property" window, where you can edit notes.
You can click "Apply Singing Style" on the bottom left to apply the values set
in "Singing Style" to the settings items in "Note Property".

"NOTE" shows the pitch of the note. "NOTE ON" shows the start time for the
note. "NOTE OFF" shows the end time for the note. "LYRIC" shows the lyric.
"PHONETIC" shows the phoneme. You can directly edit both the lyric and
phoneme here.
You can also check "PROTECT" to disable automatic conversion of phoneme
when entering lyrics. Notes with protected phonemes are marked in their top
right corner.
Note Expression
"Template" summarizes and configures the default values for each
- 41 -

expression type registered in the list for each parameter in Note Expression.
Parameters that are set to their default state are equivalent to the "normal"
expression type.
"Pitch Control" is used to make changes in pitch at the starting position of a
note.
A larger value for "Bend Depth" results in a deeper change, and a larger
value for "Bend Length" results in a longer change.
If you check "Add portamento in rising movement", the pitch at the starting
position of the note will change smoothly if the pitch of that note is higher
than the previous note. "Add portamento in falling movement" is used when
the note has a pitch that is lower than the previous note.
"Dynamics Control" is used to make changes in volume at the starting
position of a note.
A larger value for "Accent" results in increased volume amplitude, and a
larger value for "Decay" results in increased volume attenuation.
Vibrato
"Vibrato Length" is used to set the ratio of vibrato to the length of the note.
The vibrato length specified here is applied at the end of the note.
You can select the basic type of vibrato in "Vibrato Type".
With "Vibrato Depth & Rate", you can change the depth and rate of vibrato
within the length of a note. The left edge of the graph marks the start of
vibrato, and the right edge marks the end. You can use the Arrow, Line, and
Eraser tools to edit the graph. However, if the vibrato type is set to "Non
Vibrato", you cannot edit depth and rate.

displayed in the window, click the tabs at the top of the window. You can click
the "Restore Defaults" button at the bottom left to restore all settings in
- 42 -

"Preference" to their default values.

The "VOCALOID Inst" page has settings related to VOCALOID pronunciation.

Waiting Time
Set the waiting time from the start of playback until the note is actually
voiced.
If this "Waiting Time" is too short, your computer might be unable to
perform the necessary processing in time. If that happens, increase this
value.
The default setting for waiting time is "1000msec". This value must be set
to a value that is long enough to allow for the "Pre-Send Time".
Pre-Send Time
Set how early to send data to trigger the "VOCALOID Inst". For human
- 43 -

singing voices, it is normal for the sound of a consonant to start before note
on. For the VOCALOID voice synthesis system to simulate a human
singing voice, the synthesis of consonants starts a set amount of time
before note on. Therefore, if the "Pre-Send Time" is too short, consonants
will not be synthesized in time, resulting in unclear pronunciation. If that
happens, increase this value. The default setting for "Pre-Send Time" is
"500msec".
Cubase must be restarted to apply any changes made to "Pre-Send Time"
and "Waiting Time" to the VOCALOID Inst.
Master Tune
You can change the standard A3 = 440.0 Hz (default value). (Setting range:
415.3 to 466.2)
Setting the value higher results in a higher standard pitch.
Real-time Input Pronunciation

"Bend Depth" and "Bend Length" are used to adjust the variation that will
occur at the beginning of the note. The range for both settings is 0 to 100%.
If both sliders are set to 0%, no pitch variation will occur. A larger value for
"Bend Depth" results in a deeper change, and a larger value for "Bend
Length" results in a longer change.

Set the parameters as required and click "OK" to make your settings the
defaults for "Note Expression".
You can also click the "Apply to current part" button to apply the settings to
all notes in the current part. However, if there are any corrupted notes in the
current part, the "Apply to current part" button will not be enabled.
Vibrato
The "Default Vibrato Length" parameter is used to set the ratio of vibrato to
the length of the note.
Vibrato will be applied automatically if the "Enable Automatic Vibrato"
checkbox is checked. You can specify the shortest notes to which vibrato
will be automatically applied (in beats) via the "Minimum note length for
Automatic Vibrato" drop-down menu. You can select the type of the vibrato
