Pantaloons were incorporated on 12 October 1987. When it was incorporated it was known as
Mena Wear private limited. The company was converted into a private company on 20
September 1991 and on 25 September 1992 the company was changed to pantaloons fashion
(India) at the same it went into public company. Today it has approximately 14000 shareholders.
At the beginning of 1987 as we today see pantaloons leading manufacturer retailer in the country
with 13 departmental stores and 5 hypermarkets across the country. It has been a pioneer in
introducing the concept of Mega Retail Stores in India called 'Pantaloons' for the entire family. It
has diversified, and has come up with its new concept with Big Bazaar and Food Bazaar. In an
extremely price-sensitive market like India, the Pantaloons chain of stores has been successful in
maintaining the equilibrium between quality and price. The company has aggressive growth
plans to achieve scale of economy and take leadership position in this evolving industry. PRIL's
ability to evolve from smaller format into large format retail stores is well proven. With
aggressive growth plans the company has identified many locations across the company to roll

HRM PRACTICES
Human resource management is the function within an organization that focuses on recruitment
of, manage and providing direction for the people who work in the organization. Human resource
management is also a strategic approach to managing the people and the workplace culture and
environment. HRM enables employees to contribute effectively and productively to the overall
company direction and the accomplishment of the organization's goals and objectives. Human
resource of an organization consists of all people who perform its activities. HRM is concerned
with the personnel policies and managerial functions. HRM is involved in managing the human
resources with a focus on expanding customer base that gives profit to the company.
Human resources practices are strategic in nature. It represents a process to coordinates with
executive business plan. HR practice help to support the companys human capital. For example,

HR practices include formulating a method for measuring and analyzing the effects of a
particular employee rewards program. Other examples to creation the program which help to
reduce work-related injuries, and help to building a framework to ensure employment laws are
adhered to. HR practices are the process through which human resources personnel can develop
the leadership of staff. It involves the practice of developing extensive training courses and
motivational programs. Human resources practices also help to constructing the avenues through
which employees will have opportunities for advancement. For example, the design of a
mechanism enabling the regular promotion of employees offers an opportunity for staff members
to grow toward leadership positions.
As we know that every company follow some hr practice to motivate the employee and to
achieve the goal of the organization. Pantaloons also follow some hr practices, here are some hr
practices:1. Performance Appraisal: Performance appraisal is the systematic evaluation of the
performance of the employee and to understand the abilities of a person for further growth and
development. It also involves the supervisor measure the pay of employee and compares their
pay with their target of the organization. It helps to identify the strength and weakness of
employee to place right people for right job. To maintain potential present among employee for
future growth and development. To provide feedback to their employee regarding their
performance. In pantaloons generally performance appraisal performed in the month of March.
Their appraisal system are different they use rating scale and balance score card for performance
appraisal. In rating scale manager simply check the employees level of performance. Some of
the area evaluated on the basis of quantity of work, quality of work, attitude, and cooperation.
They use balance score card to evaluate the employees level on the basis of weightage.
2. Compensation: Compensation is the total amount of monetary and non monetary payment to
employee by an employer in return for work performed as required. It also include payment such
as bonus, profit sharing, overtime pay, recognition reward and checks, and sale commission. It
also include nonmonetary perk such as company paid car, stock option in certain instance, and
company paid housing. Pantaloons allocated compensation for each store on the basis of their
budget. They give voucher and gift as a monetary compensation and awards and certificates as a

non monetary compensation. They give increment in salary of employee after performance
appraisal.
3. Training and Development: Training is the process of planned the programmed and
procedure to improvement of employees performance. Training is the short term process it
applied at all of the management senior, middle and lower. When it applied to the middle and
lower level of the management it is call as training and when it is applied on the senior level of
the management it is called as managerial development programmed. Pantaloons provide
SEKHO summer training program to encourage the employee by providing them finance to a
certain amount to develop any particular skill or join some educational program. It also provides
to improve their intellectual skill and building concentration, reading and written skill through
this program at every six month.
Recommendation- Pantaloons also provide employee assistance program to their employee
through which they able build personnel relationship. They also provide educational assistance
policy for increase their knowledge toward their work. They also conduct some seminar and
conferences at every month.
4. Recruitment process: Recruitment is the Process of finding and attracting capable applicants
for employment. The Process begins when new recruits are sought and ends when their
applications are submitted. This process began when manager this that they need new employee
in the organization when existing employee left the organization. Pantaloons follow recruitment
on certain policies likes the candidates will be sourced from database developed. For sales level
candidates must be qualified 12 standards. For executive level candidates with a minimum
experience in similar work backgrounds in reputed industries. Two round interview are
conducted for hr department. Pantaloons favor employee referral for recruitment of lower and
middle management i.e. band 1 and band 2. Band 1 staff must be graduate.
Recommendation- Pantaloons should change the way recruitment. They should use college
recruitment, special event recruitment because pantaloons face in this process is that only 50%
turn up after recruitment.
5. Absenteeism/ migration turnover: Pantaloons give leave to their employee when leave plan
intimated and got approved by ones manager. Only one leave per month and it is should not be

cumulative in casual leave. Managing absenteeism not easy because it mainly connects with
employees needs and wants. Most of the employees migrate due to salary problem and 70% of
the sales people are not stable.
6. Working and tine policy: According to section 51 no adults worker are allowed to work in
the factory for more than eight hours in any weekly hours. The period of adults worker in the
factory shall be arranged after some intervals, they should not continue work otherwise they not
able to give best to their organization and it should be 5 working hours.
7. Promotion: A promotion is a process of employees rank and position in the organization. It
may be an employees reward for good performance i.e. positive appraisal. When company
promote to employee for a particular position it ensures that the person is able to handle their
responsibility. Pantaloons give promotion to their employee on the basis of their seniority, merit.
Likes, company see that how long their employee belong to them and how they show their
talents, knowledge to the company toward their work. By merits they show the knowledge skills
and performance level of the employee. Pantaloons promote their employee twice a year.

projection.
8. Selection process: Selection is a process of putting right person on right time for right job. In
pantaloons if any new people want to work they have to selection process like preliminary
interview, applications blank, written test, interview, medical examination and then pantaloons
give appointment letter. Pantaloons follow this selection process:

Group discussion- no. of candidates applies for G.D and only selected candidates go for
next round.

Written exam- written exam is not mandatory for all but for designers and M.B.A it is
mandatory.

Departmental interview- this interview conducts by departmental heads to get an insight


of candidates for core knowledge.

Hr round- at this employee interview by hr manager about salary and locations where
they to do job.

Call letter- at last manger give the appointment letter for joining the job.

Recommendation- pantaloons should use aptitude test and technical interview. Because by
aptitude manager came to know the intelligence level of candidates. Written exam should be
mandatory for all candidates.
9. Employment welfare: Pantaloons provide a 24*7 help line that assists its employee for any
financial assistance. Female employee can have maternity leave for 84 days on completion of
160 days. They recreation facility in which they provide picnics, DJ parties, quiz etc for their
employee. They also provide periodic health checkups for the employee and their family.
