Miracles #8 The Demon Possessed Man (Mark 5:1-20)

I. Before (v. 1-5)
A. The demons brought misery to many people.
1. The man was a menace to society.
2. The man was a menace to himself.
B. Satan loves to destroy (Rev 9:11).
Satan desires the destruction of the body only to secure the
destruction of the soul (which is his primary aim).
II. The Change (v. 6-15)
A. The man approached Jesus differently than other men.
B. The demons requested to be sent nearby, not out into the abyss
(Luke 8:31).
C. The man was normal after the demons departed.
D. The man was spiritual after the demons departed.
III. After (v. 16-20)
A. Jesus was asked to leave the area (they were afraid). The power of
God made them uneasy.
Satan had bound this man with demons, but now he binds these
townspeople with economic concerns.
B. The man asked permission to go with Jesus.
C. Jesus sent this man home to tell others what Jesus had done for him (v.
19).
This mans testimony was effective (Mk 7:31-37).
IV. Our testimonies
A. Before we were saved we lived as sinners.
B. The change happens at a moment of spiritual crisis.
C. An inner change works itself out in lifestyle changes.
