TheLaCaadaUnifiedSchoolDistricthasastrongcommitmenttoprovidingaqualityeducationfor
itsstudents,includingaccesstoandexperiencewithcurrenttechnologyandInternetresources.The
districthastakenseveralstepstoprotectstudentsfromaccessinginappropriatematerialsontheInternet:
First,thedistrictmaintainsandupdatesitstechnologyusepolicies(BoardPolicy/Administrative
Regulations6163.4)andStudentTechnologyandInternetUseAgreementsonaregularbasistoclarify
expectationsandcommunicaterequirementsforappropriateandsafeuseofdistricttechnology
resources.Secondly,thedistrictinstructsstudentsintheproperuseofInternetresourcesbeforetheyare
allowedonlineandmonitorsstudentuseofthenetwork.Thirdly,thedistrictemploysanInternet
contentfilter,whichutilizesstateofthearttechnologytoscreenInternetwebtrafficandblock
inappropriatematerialsfromstudentaccess.Unfortunately,itispossiblefortheInternetcontentfilterto
beinaccurate,orforstudentstosucceedwhentryingtocircumventitssecuritymeasures,sothedistrict
cannotguaranteethatstudentswillnotbeexposedtoinappropriatematerialatalltimes.Ittherefore
remainsessentialforstudentstoacceptresponsibilityfortheproperuseofthetechnologicalresources
availableattheirschool.

LCUSDstudentsincertainclassesandgradelevelswillhaveaccesstotheInternetandbasic
computerfunctions.Eachday,studentswillneedtosignintothenetworkwithadistrictprovided
usernameandpasswordtoconductresearchandcompletecourseworkallstudentactivitycanbe
monitoredforsafetyandcompliancetofederalrulesandguidelinessuchastheChildrenInternet
ProtectionAct(CIPA).

GoogleAppsforEducation

LCUSDwillcontinuetouseGoogleAppsforEducation,orGAFE,andChromebooksforgrades312
forthe20152016schoolyear.Grades5and7,aswellasbetateachersatallsites,willcontinuewith
our1:1initiative,andallotherstudentswillhaveaccesstoGoogleAppsforEducationdailyand
Chromebooksweekly.GAFEgivesstudentspracticeusingcurrent,technologyapplicationsandtools
suchasDrive,awordprocessing,spreadsheet,drawing,andpresentationtoolsetthatmirrorsmany
featuresinMicrosoftOfficeCalendar,anindividualcalendarprovidingtheabilitytoorganize
schedules,dailyactivities,andassignmentsMail,anindividualinternalemailaccountforschooluse
managed,monitored,andfilteredbyLCUSDandClassroom,adigitalspaceforteachersto
communicatewithstudents,assignandcollectassignments,andintegrateotherGoogleAppsintotheir
classrooms.

AllChromebooks,districtownedandstudentowned,willremainontheLCUSDInternalWifinetwork
duringschoolhours.Onotherpersonaldevicessuchasphones,however,studentshavetheabilityto
connecttotheStudentWirelessNetwork.PleasereviewsectionVIIIofthisdocumentforrulesand
restrictions.Classroomuseofpersonaldeviceswillremainatthediscretionofeachindividualteacher.

I. Personal Responsibility and Safety.

I know that school computers, iPads, and Internet
communicationtoolsmustbeusedproperlyandwithrespectandcare.
A. I understand that usingtheschoolscomputersandiPadstoaccess the Internetisa privilege that is
earned.
B. Iwilltakecareofthecomputerandalltechnologyequipmentasifitbelongedtome.
C. I understand that all the rules described in my school's discipline policy and this TechnologyUse
Agreement applywhen I am usingtechnologyatschoolandwheneverImusingtheschooldistricts
GoogleAppsforEducationaccount,evenfromhomeorothernonschoollocations.
D. I will immediately stop and tell the teacher if anythinghappenson the computeroron the Internet
thatdoesnotseemright ormakesmefeeluncomfortable(inappropriate,offensive,illegal, anyactof
bullying,oractionthatviolatestheTechnologyUseAgreement).
E. I will help keep the school network a safe learning environment by reporting any misuse of the
computer or the network toa teacherorprincipal.IfIambulliedonline,Iwillprintoutacopyof the
offensivematerialandgiveittoateacheroraschooladministrator.
F. Iunderstand that certainpeoplecouldtryto usetheInternet toharmme,soIwillbecarefultokeep
mypersonalinformationprivatewheneverIamontheInternet.

II. Inappropriate Uses. I understand that school technology should be used for learning, not for
playing games or harassing others. Inappropriate use may lead to a range of disciplinary actions. The
followingactivitiesareprohibited:
A. Iwillnotuseschooltechnologyforplayinggamesorsocializingapartfromanassignedactivity.
B. I will not participate in chat rooms (orinstantmessaging)while Iamat school, unless specifically
directedtobymyteacherforaparticularassignment.
C. Iwillnot damagethetechnologynor upload anyviruses,spyware, orothermalwareontothedevice
ornetwork.Iunderstandthiswouldbeconsideredaformofvandalism.
D. I will not alter the way the computer desktop or iPad home screenlooksorhowit works(control
panels,networksettings).
E. Iwillnotattempttobypasssecuritymeasuresonthetechnologyorthedistrictnetwork.
F. Iwillnot installanysoftwareon theschoolcomputerorpluganypersonalequipmentintothedistrict
network.
G. I will not use school technology and network toconduct apersonal business (selling or advertising
things).
H. Iwillnotsharemypasswordswithothersnorlogintothecomputerornetworkwithsomeoneelses
usernameandpassword.
I. Iwillnotseekoutnorsharepornographyorotherinappropriatematerial.
J. Iwillnotharassorintimidateanotherpersononline.
K. Iwillnotuseonlineforumsortechnologyresourcestocheatontestsorassignments.

I understandthatimproperuseofschooltechnology,theInternet,andGoogleAppsforEducation
could break the law and/or school rules resulting in discipline, which could include suspension
fromschool.

III.
Digital Citizenship. I will treat people with dignity and respect when using technology and
accessingtheInternet.
A. Iwillnotthreaten,insult,gossip,tease,ortreatotherswithcrueltywhileIamonlineorusing
technology.Iunderstandthistypeofbehaviorisaformofbullyingandwillnotbetoleratedandwillbe
punishedandresultinthelossofprivileges.
B. IwillrespectotherstudentsworkonthecomputersandiPads.Iwillnotcopy,change,orremove

anotherstudentsworkfromanydevice,theschoolnetwork,theInternetorGoogleAppsforEducation.
C. IwilltellateacheroradministratorwheneverIencounteranythingontheInternet(includinginschool
emails,documents,groups,orsiteswithinGoogleAppsforEducation)thatIthinkmaybeinappropriate
oraviolationofschoolpolicies.
D. Iwillnotcopyinformationanduseitasifitweremyownideaswithoutgivingcredittothe
informationsauthorandsource.Iknowthatfailuretoproperlycitemysourcesofinformationiscalled
plagiarismandisaformofcheating.
E. IwilluseGoogleAppsforEducationasoutlinedbymyteacherandunderstandthattheschoolcan
monitorallactivitywithmyaccount.

IV.ResponsibleOnlineBehavior:
IwillfollowtheseguidelineswhenusingtheInternetincluding
whenusingthedistrictmonitoredGoogleAppsforEducation.
A. IunderstandthatworkIengageinwithGoogleAppsforEducationmaybeseenbyeveryoneatschool
andathome,andthingsthatarepostedontheInternetcanbeseenbyeveryoneintheworld.
B. Iwillnotsharepersonalinformation(eithermyownnoranotherstudents)including:referencestowhere
Ilive,detailsaboutfamilyorfriends(includingnames),myage,birthday,homeaddress,ortelephone
numberontheInternet.
C. Iunderstandthatonceinformationhasbeenpostedonline,orinablog,itcannotbecompletelytaken
back.Evenifapostisdeleted,therecouldbeolderversionsthatwereautomaticallysavedthatcanbe
viewedandcopiedbyothers.
D. IwillconsiderwhomIamcommunicatingwithandthinkabouthowtheymightinterpretmywords.
E. Iwillgiveconstructivecriticismandcommentsinordertohelppeopleandnottomakethemfeelbadly.
F. IwillonlypostinformationthatIcanverifyistrueandIwillnotspreadgossipaboutotherstudents.
G. Iwillmakesuremycommentsanddiscussionresponsesarerelatedtothepurposeoftheoriginalpost
anddirectedtowardtheauthor.Iwillnotuseclassroomonlinediscussionsorblogsforpersonalorsocial
conversationsunrelatedtotheassignment.
H. Iwilluserespectfulandappropriatelanguagewithoutswearing,namecalling,orcausingotherstofeel
uncomfortableduetotheirgender,race,appearance,behavior,orbeliefs.Iamawarethattheseactions
maybeconsideredharassmentorbullyingandaresubjecttodisciplinaryaction.
I. Iunderstandthatauthorities(includingthedistrict,lawenforcement,police,FBI,SecretService,etc.)
havewaysoftrackingthingsthatarepostedontheInternetbacktothecomputerorpersonthatpostedit,
evenifthepersonneverusestheirownnameorleavesanypersonalinformation.Iunderstandthat
anythingIpostontheInternetcouldeventuallybelinkedtome.
J. IwilluseproperspellingandgrammarintheappropriateAcademicVoicewhenpostingonline.Iwill
notusechatortextlingowhenpostingorcommentingonaschoolblog,butIwilluseproper
spellingandgrammar.Iwillusewordstoconveymeaninginsteadofrelyingonpunctuationand
capitalization.
K. IwillnotimpersonateothersnortrytotrickpeopleintothinkingwhatIwrotewasdonebysomeoneelse.
Iunderstandthatthiscouldbeaformofbullying(orcyberbullying)and/orharassment.
L. IwillaskmyteacherforclarificationwheneverIamindoubtaboutanyoftherulesorguidelines.

IunderstandthatImayfacearangeofdisciplineuptoandincludingsuspensionfromschooland
prosecutionifIdonotfollowtheguidelineslistedabove.IunderstandthatGoogleAppsfor
Educationisanextensionofourschoollearningenvironmentandtherefore,allschoolrulesand
expectationsapply.

V.ServiceExpectations.
Iunderstandthatalthough

LaCaadaUnifiedSchoolDistricthasput
securitymeasuresinplace,itcannotguaranteethatallinappropriatecontentorundesirablewebsites
willbeblockedfromstudentaccess.Ialsounderstandthatthedistrictdoesnotguaranteethatall

studentswillhaveaccesstocomputers,theInternet,orfilesstoredonitsservers100%ofthetime.I
willalwaysbepreparedforthepossibilitythatcomputersoraccesstothenetworkmaynotfunction
onanygivenday,andthatfilesonthedistrictsserversmaybecomecorruptedorlost.Iwillbe
responsibleforbackingupmyownfilesonmyownmedia,asthedistrictdoes
not
storebackupsof
thestudentfilesonitsservers.Ialsounderstandthatallfilesandcommunicationswithinthedistrict
networkmaybemonitoredbythedistrictadministratorswithnoexpectationofprivacy.

VI.LimitationofLiability.
LaCanadaUnifiedSchoolDistrictshallnotberesponsibleforany
damagessufferedbythestudentincludingthosearisingfromserviceinterruptions,unauthorizeduse,
lossofdata,andexposuretopotentiallyharmfulorinappropriatematerialorpeople.Useofany
informationobtainedviatheInternetorcommunicationtechnologiesisatthestudentsownrisk.
Furthermore,thedistrictassumesnoliabilityforpersonaltechnology,includingcomputers,smart
phones,tablets,networkaccessdevices,orotherelectronicsignalingdevices,ifsuchdevicesare
damaged,lost,orstolen.Thestudentandhis/herparent/guardianshallindemnifyandholdLa
CanadaUnifiedSchoolDistrictharmlessfromanylossessustainedastheresultofuseormisuseof
thedistrictstechnologyresourcesbythestudent,and/orthelossordamageofpersonaltechnology.

VII.Privileges.
IunderstandthatusingthecomputernetworkisaprivilegeImustearnandmaintain
bymyresponsibleuse.IfIdontusethecomputersoriPadsproperlyortreatothersrespectfully
online,Iwilllosethatprivilege,facedisciplinaryactions,andmyparentswillbenotified.

VIII.MobileDevices.
Iunderstandthatmyschoolsitehasaspecificpolicyontheuseofmobile
devicesandmustadheretosaidpolicy.Thispolicywillbereviewedatthebeginningoftheschoolyear
includingdisciplinaryactionsformisuse.Inregardstorecordinglecturesorclassnotes,accordingto
CaliforniaEducationCode51512,useofarecordingorlisteningdevicewithoutthepriorconsentof
teacherandprincipalisprohibited.

IX.StudentWirelessNetwork(LCHS).
A. WirelessInternetenableddevicesmaybeusedintheIRC,approvedstudyhalls,cafeteria,and
otherpublicareas.
B. Studentswhoarenotdoingacademicworkorarecreatingadisruptionwillbeaskedtoputthe
deviceaway.
C. Studentsmustaskpermissionofeachindividualteachertouseamobilecomputingdevice
duringaclass.
D. AccesstotheLCUSDStudentsWirelessnetworkisaprivilegeprovidedbyLCUSDandnota
right.Accessmayberevokedatanytime.Studentsshouldnotcountonalwayshavingtothe
wirelessnetwork,sopleaseplanaccordingly.
E. Usersalsounderstandthatwhentheybringtheirpersonaldevicesontotheschoolcampus,the
schoolassumesnoresponsibilityforlost,stolen,ordamageddevices.
F. Anyonechoosingtousethedistrict

swirelessnetworksagreestodosoattheirownrisk.
G. Itisstronglyrecommendedthatallusersensuretheyhaveuptodatevirusandmalware
protectionprogramsrunningontheircomputersordevicesbeforeconnectingtothedistrict
wirelessnetworktominimizetheriskofexposuretosuchthreatsfromotherdevicesonthe
wirelessnetwork.
H. Studentsareresponsibleforallactivityconductedontheirpersonalcomputingdevices.Theyare
expectedtotakereasonableprecautionstopreventunauthorizedand/orabusiveusebyother
individuals.
