re you listening?
Hearing is simply the act of perceiving sound by the year. If you are
not hearing-impaired, hearing simply happens. Listening, however, is

something you consciously choose to do.

Toastmasters Inc. iterates the importance of listening and reminds us communication
as a two-way process. One cannot become a good communicator without becoming a

words per minute, and an average person speaks at a speed of 120 words per minute,
we will have enough time to go through all the process without missing anything if we
pay attention.
To be a good listener:
Keep your eyes and ears focused on the speaker, look into his/her eyes.

Nod your head in response to the words; respond with a smile, I see, I didnt know or thats nice in acknowledgement.
Wait for the speaker to complete before jumping to a conclusion. Dont let the speakers accent or attire makes you less interest in the
speech.
When people talk, listen completely. Most people never listen, said Ernest Hemingway.
Staring at the phones or typing something when someone is speaking to you not only takes the energy from the speaker but also is considered as a disrespectful demeanor.
Remember, often people fail to listen for many reasons, and one of the top is: lack of empathy towards the speaker and self-centeredness.
As said, to be successful in a professional environment or to get along in any social arena listening is as important as the communication
skill of a person. Listening shows appreciation and your feelings towards the speaker.

For many it was like their first day at the nursery class. Combined feelings of excitements, exhilaration and confusion were obvious on their

faces. There were a few cool faces as well. Haroon and his brother Hafiz belonged to the
calm group; Azeem Waheed was there as the senior most responsible to look after the
rest. He interviewed every one and reported to the coordinators including his father..

a moment of truth for those involved, a moment to cherish for a

Falconers, I am telling about our Youth Leadership Program 2016. We could not conduct such a program for a long time, due to
several reasons. There were apprehensions on whether we would be able to conduct such a program as it demands many resources
and rehearsals. Finalizing the right venue itself was a herculean task. Obstacles were plenty.
President ordered - GO AHEAD. Yes, it was an order than a suggestion. We believed in ourselves. And the result is quite gratifying; yes, we are part of creating young leaders.
Peter Drucker said: Effective leadership is not about making speeches or being liked; leadership is defined by results not attributes.
Our leaders did both they spoke eloquently and displayed an air of confidence.
I have to thank Mrs. and Mr. Fadel Nazir for volunteering as coordinators. The poetic beauty is that Fadel Nazir was our YLP beneficiary 11 years ago, who has become a leader and an experienced trainer now! He assisted our team along with his spouse who
equaled him in the skill. Kudos to our own Nazir bai and his family! Also, Haseeb for finding the time to impart what he has
learned from Toastmasters through effective Table Topics sessions and evaluations. We owe sincere appreciation to Noushad and
Hidayatulla too for their support and encouragements.
Coordinators Rizwan Haris and Ali MK were very new to Toastmasters fraternity with only a handful of experience in public
speaking; but, they came out to take the challenge and succeeding in producing an astounding impact to the team!! Keep up the
good work mates.
Falconers, we thank you for your trust in us, for your belief and for your support to lead this in the right manner. Over to you!

hat did you gain from Toastmasters

There are lots of applause in Toastmasters meeting, this makes it different. from

others

Each and every move of a toastmaster is studied, evaluated, encouraged and appreciated. Of
Course who doesn't like appreciation.
Sometime a new comer might get embarrassed from the loads of applause he gets. Eventually,
when he becomes an active member he will understand the support, encouragement and cherish
given to him.

What did you gain from TM By

TM Mansoor Ali P
Treasurer

I am still a Junior in Falcon Toastmasters club when compared to other veterans and founder
members and the best thing is I got a chance to become VPM and Treasurer, within this small
period of two years.

Each and every move of a toastmaster is studied, evaluated, encouraged and appreciated. Of Course
who doesn't like appreciation.

It's a great pleasure and privilege to serve the members within my limitations even though I was
not able to complete my CC in this period.
Now this is the time to select new EXCOM for 2016-17, I request all new members to grab this opportunity to become a part Falcon
Toastmasters EXCOM to serve others by sharpening your skills.
In my view, when we applaud and encourage a member don't think the ultimate intention is to score DCP points. When we are concentrating only on points we might lose the quality of Club or productivity of member. Ultimate goal is always the betterment of Members,
Focusing the members development in a dedicated way will always result the growth of our team as well as Club.
.

All best for upcoming EXCOM.

Yes it is very true that the difference between success and failure is a great

contest and till District. I have seen such a wonderful, dedicated and hardworking team behind the success of all the contest. When we are working together with different skill set of
people we learn new lessens from each and every activities. Toastmaster platform taught me
the art of team work and delegation of work. Fellow toastmasters make use of each and every opportunities to be a better leader. Together we can do wonders.

y Journey..
I began my journey of toastmaster in Dec 2015 and that was when I did
my Ice breaker speech and I can still feel the impulse of my heart pound-

ing when I recollect that moment. I could feel the pressure of stage fright running up my
nerves to the brain and making my vision go black and my body go numb! I thought to
myself then, This is not as it seems to be.
After a short break for my wedding, I was back again on the toastmaster rally. The club
officials convinced me to participate in the club contest and after much of persuasion I said

My Journey By TM Rizwan Haris

Rizwan, give it a try, win or lose, it
will be of a good experience.

to myself, Rizwan, give it a try, win or lose, it will be of a good experience . Enrolled for
humorous speech and fortunately or unfortunately I bagged the second prize.
I was very happy, until I was informed that the first and second are ought to compete in the area level contest. My heart was pounding
like a base drum!! I could feel its bass!! Area Contest, you kidding me exclaimed to myself The EXCOM took the responsibility of
grooming the best out of me for the area contest. I was hesitant in the beginning as I recollected my Ice breaker day, that was a small
crowd and this is going to be a huge crowd. And then I said to myself again, Rizwan, give it a try, win or lose, it will be of a good experience. . On that event day I can still recollect the state of mind I was going through and all my fellow falconers coming to me and giving me the motivation and encouragement to perform. Finally with nervousness in my mind and with trembling fingers, I performed and
fortunately or unfortunately I bagged the first prize. I was really happy until the moment I realized that the winner are ought to compete
at the division level. not again !! - exclaimed to myself. Well, I never expected I would win, I never expected I would be ever able to
present in front of an audience. I still remember quote of Martin Luther King which I quoted in my ice breaker speech, it says, Faith is
taking the first step even when you dont see the whole staircase Yes, I am climbing on the steps now, with the enormous faith that I
have entrusted on my fellow falconers and the fraternity. I still have flaws, yet to overcome. I am still a caterpillar yet to come out of cocoon to transform to a butterfly. With all the support and faith I have in falconers and EXCOM in particular, I believe I will emerge out
as a butterfly sooner or later. And for now, I need to prepare for division contest and I need to fix my mindset as Rizwan, give it a try,
win or lose, it will be of a good experience.

YE OPENER
When Ali was chasing for an article two days back, he text me and said Dear X President, it would be my greatest pleasure if
I could add some of your lines on our next newsletter, you guys are the role model for upcoming buds like us, please inspire

us .When you get inside TM arena the word inspire , persuade , recharge with power , effective communication etc., are very
commonly used and heard, but are we really recharged with all those words and quotes???
I always believe that TM platform is one of the great arenas were you pay less and gain more, and If we know something like toastmaster will improve us a lot and then we didnt utilize it effectively then we will be the biggest losers in the world.
I would like to share with you all one of the small incident that I got to witness recently.

Six months back my office assistant who was basically from Tamil Nadu said, Sir I am planning to go for vacation on Nov15, so kindly excuse me for a month from work, he said he
will be back after one month, since we have hired him from a local man power supply company they have replaced him with another resource, days and months passed away and finally the one who went on vacation came back to office last week . We were all shocked to see
him when he walked into the office, he had undergone Chemotherapy and Surgery because
of Oropharyngeal cancer (mouth cancer) the full jaw and face had changed from brightness
to dark, initially we were not able to recog0.25

Eye Opener By

nize his face, I cant further write more about him because its beyond my imagination to
write about that, but all I can share with you is that its exactly the same victims which we
all see during the initial advertisement of any film., the excessive usage of tobacco will lead
to cancer, after seeing him I have decided one thing that I will never ever use any tobacco

TM Abdul Rahman, CC, CL

I always believe that TM platform is
one of the great arenas were you pay
less and gain more

product., I believe that these all are the eye opener for us even though we witness a lot of people like this in our daily life but we will not realize the truth unless and until if something really happens to our near and dear ones, we

know that life is too short but it never means that we should be a burden to someone or we should get sympathy/empathy from others for
a cause which we can control our self, day before yesterday his company asked him to leave the country, whos the ultimate beneficiary
out of this? The tobacco or Panparag Company?? Or his family?? Or his .?? ???. I knew for a fact that we cant change some of our
routine habits but the usage of tobacco is not habit by birth its an acquired habit which can be changed, you can live without addictive
products like tobacco , alcohol but you cannot live without basic necessities of life i.e., air, water , food etc. So lets not spoil our healthy
body by using these additive products. Lets not spoil our life or our family.
