1.2 METHODOLOGY
This unit draws on three main approaches to learning: experiential
learning, the communicative approach and content-and-language
integrated learning (CLIL) in order to learn about the family and be able
to express information related to the topic. This unit emphasizes the use
of learning skills such as repetition of models, memorization, word
association to acquire vocabulary, basic structures and phonology
through related communicative and artistic activities.

1.3 UNIT OBJECTIVES


IN UNIT 2 STUDENTS WILL LEARN TO:
1. Recognize and name family members.
2. Extract information from a dialogue.
3. Develop awareness of family groups and caring.
4. Sing and act out a song.

6. Talk about location.
7. Present a new colour.
8. Describe family members and identify similarities.
9. Describe facial features.
10. Develop awareness of different generations within a family unit.

16. Demonstrate love and caring within a family group.

1.4 CONTENTS
1.4.1 BLOCK 1 [B1]: LISTENING, SPEAKING AND CONVERSING
Predict information about the Emilys story from visual cues. (Lesson 1)
Dramatize the story about family members with mime. (Lesson 1)
Colour the letters of the title This is my family and later name the colour in
order to revise vocabulary previously met. (Lesson 1)
Listen to and draw family members and some body parts descriptions.
(Lesson 2)
Identify the pictures by using L2 and complete them by drawing the missing
half of it. (Lesson 2)
Listen to, learn, point to the corresponding family member in the pictures
and sing the song: Where is the little baby?. (Lesson 2)
Interact using L2 to play the card game Memory! (Lesson 2 & 7)
Describe in L2 the family stickers. (Lesson 2)

Show oral comprehension by listening and saying the number of the picture

1.4.2 BLOCK 2 [B2]: READING AND WRITING


Trace words previously met and complete the sentences using them.
(Lesson 1)
Read aloud words in order to match them to the corresponding picture.
(Lesson 1)
Write the missing letter of vocabulary previously met, trace those words and
after that check the exercise writing the correct spellings. (Lesson 2)
Read, trace the words and complete short sentences about pictures to
describe them. (Lesson 3, 6)
Match new vocabulary to pictures and use as a cue to complete simple
sentences. (Lesson 4)
Read, match family words with their corresponding picture and write the
name in the spaces. (Lesson 4)
Count people in the pictures and write the result to complete a graph.
(Lesson 5)
Read short sentences previously met in spoken interaction and reading texts
in order to match the sentences to the pictures. (Lesson 6)
Write short sentences about a picture in order to transmit information.

1.4.3.1 LINGUISTIC KNOWLEDGE
BASIC LANGUAGE FUNCTIONS AND STRUCTURES
Identifying family members: Who is this? Mummy.
Presenting a family member: This is my daddy. This is me.
Giving further information: Ive got a big family.
Asking for information: What can you see?.
Describing parts of the body: Mummys got a big nose. Daddys got long
legs.
Identifying facial features: My sisters got big ears.
Asking about appearance: Whos got a big mouth? Whos got blue eyes and
black hair?
Describing family: Ive got a baby sister. Shes got brown hair.
Expressing and understanding quantity: How many of you have got
grandpas with white hair? Eight.
Counting: One boy, two girls.
Describing pictures: I can see two boys.
Describing ones family: My daddys got black hair.
Expressing feelings: Daddy loves me! I love you!
Identifying: What can you see in this space?
Counting: How many empty spaces are there? Seven.
Expressing preference: What is your favourite page? This one.
Identifying where someone is: Wheres baby? Theres baby.
VOCABULARY
Family: daddy, mummy, brother, sister, grandma, grandpa, baby.
Genders: boy, girl, he, she, man and woman
Colours: white, black and brown
The plurals: daddies, mummies, brothers, sisters, boys, girls, men and
women
Verbs: start, finish
Revision: Colours (blue, green), Parts of the body (hair, eyes), Length (long,
short), Size (big, small).
PHONOLOGY
Practice pronunciation by paying particular attention to the final /i/ sound in
mummy and daddy. (Lesson 1)

Practice pronunciation by paying particular attention to the contraction

Practice pronunciation of phrases from Track 20, 22 in a different speed and

Learn, practice the pronunciation of words previously met and produce a full
