ThisbookisaboutasmallgirlnameFernwhosavesWilbur(thepig).Wilberwasmeanttodie
becausehewasverysmallandFernsdadthoughtthatthepigwasnotgoingtohelpthefarm.
FernheardaboutherdadtryingtokillthepigsoshebeggedherdadtoletherkeepWilbur.Fern
isayounggirlbutverymatureforherage.ShetookcareofWilburlikeababy.Sheknew
WilburwasspecialandsodidCharlotte.Charlottewasthespiderthatwaslivinginthesame
barnthatWilberdid.ShewasabrightspiderandknewthatWilburwasveryspecial.She
becamehisfriendandWilburlovedher.Wilburlearnedthathewassoongoingtobekilledby
FernsFatherandhewasafraid,Charlottewasnotgoingtoletthathappensoshestartedtowrite

theflowers,hereadpoemsandplayedmusicforhisseeds.Flowersdidnotgrowrightawaybut
oncehefellasleepbecausehewassotiredofallthethingshewasdoingforhisflowersthathe
didntevenrealizetheflowersweregrowing.

JudyandPetertwoyoungkidsplayingoutdoorscameacrossaboardgame.Littledid
theyknowthateverythingwasgoingtochangequickly.Theboardgamecamewithstrictrules;
oncethegameisstarteditwillnotbeoveruntiloneplayerreachesthegoldencity.OncePeter
rolledthefirstdicetheynoticethatthiswasnotjustaregularboardgame.Thisboardgame
cametolife.Theirhousewassuddenlyazoo.Rhinos,snakes,monkeys,lion,waterandbroken
furniturelater,JudyyelledJumanji!Everythingthatcameoutoftheboardgamehad
disappeared.JudyandPeterthrewwaytheboardgamebacktowheretheyhadfoundit.Lateron
theysawtwootheryoungboyswalkingbytheparkholdingthelongthingbox:Jumanji.

Everyonethinksthatohifthetexthastalkinganimalsthenitmustbeforkids.Donotgetme
wrongitishalftruebuttheimportantaboutchildrenthatmanyofthestoriescomeswithamany

morals,describesthedifferencebetweenchildrenalsoithelpschildrenshapeconcernsof
importantissues.
ManyofthetextsthatIhavechosenarefiction(fables,nonsensepoetry).Charlottes
web,Goodnight,littlebear,andToadandFrogisknownforthetalkinganimals,whichisawell
knownfablesforchildren.Talkinganimalsareconsideredtobegoodforeducation.Allthis
booksalsoshowtraitsabouthowkidscanusetheirimaginationsandhavingamoralattheend
ofeachstory.Jumanjiisgreatforchildrentolearnhowtousetheirimaginations.Thisbook
provideslotsofgreatmomentswhenthechildreninthebookareplayingtheboardgamesand
thegamecomestolive.Astheyreadtheyareawareofthedifferentadventuresthekidsare
goingthroughandfeelliketheyareapartoftheadventureaswell.Wherethesidewalkends
fellintothenonsensepoetry.ThecontentthatthepoemshavemademefeelthatIwasreading
nonsensewhichyoungerreaderwillunderstand.Bothpoemshavelotsofrhyme,which
makesiteasiertoreadthepoems.Notonlydoesithaverhymebutalsoasorderandthats
alwaysgoodwhenyouarereadingpoems.Childrenarealwayscuriousaboutlifeandthemore
theyreadbooksthemoretheywouldbelearningaboutlifebyothersperspective.Theidealchild
wouldbeconcernaboutthecharactersinthestoriesandwouldwanttoknowwhatelseisgoing
tohappen.Booksaresupposedtomakechildquestionwhatthebookisabout.Forexample,Sara
inthebookalittleprincesswasalwaysquestioningaboutthingsshewantedtoknowand
wouldknowmanythingsbecauseofthedifferentbooksshewouldbereading.Kids
imaginationsareveryuniquetheyquestioneverythingthatlivethrowsatthemandlearnfrom
them.

ThemoreIreadbookthemoreIpaycloseattentiontothemeanbehindeachtext.Ifind
myselfquestioningeveryeventthatgoesthroughthebook.Istarttofigureoutwhatexactlythe
storyisaboutandnotjustlearnthebasicunderstandingaboutthetext.Thisclassastaughtmeto
learntoquestionandfindthemeaningofthestory.ReadingthebooksIgotformyfieldstudyI
havepreviouslyhadalreadyreadthembeforeandnowthatIreadthemagainInoticedmyself
doingmorethenjustreading.IwouldnoticethebehaviorsofthecharactersinthetextandI
wouldthinktomyselfwhatisthischaractertryingtodohereaswellhowwouldachildlearn
fromthelessonsthesebooksaregivingthem.Howarechildrenreadingit?Arethey
understanding?Dotheyrealizethatthesestoriesareteachingthemalesson?Questionslikethat
weretheonesthatIwasthinkingthroughoutthisassignment.
Manychildreninthisgenerationarereadingbooksthatarenotstickilyforchildren.
ManyyounggirlswerereadingtheTwilightsagabooksbecauseitisaboutvampiresand
werewolvesbuttheyarealsoreadyhowagirlischangingherlifeforaboyandthengirlssee
thisasromanticandlearntobelikethis.Whenwereadwelearnthatlittleredridinghoodmoral
ofthestorywastoteachyounggirlsthattherearemanywolfsouttherethatarevery
charming,lovingandcaringbutallofthatisjustapicturethatthewolfispaintingsothegirl
candoanythingforhim.Younggirlsneedtobeawareoftraitslikethisaswellbeawareof
booksthatarenotgoodforthem.Thisclassashelpedmepickbooksandlearnhowtoactually
readabookandunderstandit.IwouldalwayswouldjustreadabookjusttoreaditbutnowI
havelearnthatIwasnotreadingcorrectly.IfIamnotquestioninganythingaboutthebook,amI
