News and Updates: As we move into the rainy season, CalFire staffing is reduced from
three to two firefighters. Rainy season brings special challenges and we must rely on our
volunteer firefighters and EMRs to keep us safe. Although wildfires may be reduced by
the rainy season, structure fires are more common from chimney fires. Additionally, the
wet weather brings road closures, felled trees from wind storms, mud slides, traffic
accidents and generally hazardous conditions. The McDermott Fire Station remains the
disaster center for Bonny Doon.
For any serious incidents, such as a structure fire, both paid and volunteer
responders are needed. As our closest mutual aid responders, Felton Fire District
volunteers, are at least 20 minutes away, our volunteer force is essential to the safety of
all of our Bonny Doon community members! It takes a large force to enable us to have a
quick response to any potential emergencies. We need YOUR help to fill out our team.
Although we always need firefighters and EMRs, we can very much use other talents.
Particularly, we are looking for a Volunteer Coordinator and an Event Coordinator. The
ideal candidate for either position will be a self-motivated leader who can help direct
efforts from start to finish to support the fire team.
The Event Coordinator would run fundraising events such as our popular UnPancake
Breakfast. We welcome proposals for new events you would like to run in support of the
team.
The Volunteer Coordinator would lead efforts to recruit new volunteers for a variety of
efforts, and manage and direct the work of non-firefighter volunteers. Were looking for
someone to get some training and run with it as our firefighters are too busy responding
to calls to spend much time in the office.
Additionally, we could use some occasional help with cleaning, organizing, and

Captains Report: The results of recent recruitment efforts are 1 Firefighter Candidate
for Academy with the possibility of one more. We also have two new volunteers in our
EMR program. We hope to have all these new members responding by the end of May.
