S2E3. Students will observe and record changes in their surroundings and infer the causes of the
changes.
a. Recognize effects that occur in a specific area caused by weather, plants, animals, and/or
people.
Title of Online Project/Collaboration Site/Publishing Opportunity: Journey North

Describe how you would use the Online Project/Collaboration Site/Publishing Opportunity in
your classroom: I would use this site in my classroom by allowing my students to talk with a
scientist on the website that will help them gather more information on their animals migration
patterns. They will also have the opportunity to work with each other to collect the data.
What technologies would be required to implement this proposed learning activity in a
classroom? The students will have to have access to a computer and the Journey North website.
Most of the resources will be the ones we have in the classroom, such as their pencil, paper, and a
tape measure.
Describe how the following features are addressed in this learning experience (note: all of them
may not be addressed in the project, but most should be if you are reaching a high LoTi Level.):
a. Collaboration with peers, near-peers, mentors outside their classroom and often
beyond their school: The students will talk with the students in their classroom
about their findings and then be able to discuss their findings with a parent at
home or with another teacher at the school.
b. Student-centered learning and knowledge creation (collecting original data and or
producing original products as a result of engaging in the project): The students
are the ones collecting all of the data. They will be the ones posting the information
to the site, with guidance from the teacher.
c. Higher-order thinking: The students will have to determine why the animal
migrates in a certain pattern, where that animal might be going, and how that
animal will get there. The whole activity is higher order thinking.
d. Students publishing their original work to others who will use/care about their
product: The website shares the information they have collected with the other
schools and scientists. The website is safe and secure.

What Level of Technology Implementation best describes this learning activity and Why? LoTi
level 4 because the students are using the online website as a way to put in their data but they
are also using other tools to collect the data.
How could you implement this proposed learning experience and still comply with your districts

Internet Safety and Student Privacy policies? I would have to check with the district policy before
I send anything home to my parents informing them of the activity I have planned.
