LITURGY OF THE WORD

Commentator:

Please be seated for the Liturgy of the

word. The story of creation narrates to
us, Gods will for man and the woman
in their partnership in marriage; let us
listen to the first reading.

FIRST READING
24)
Reader:

(Genesis 2:18A reading from the book of Genesis

The Lord God said: It is not good for
the man to be alone. I will make a
suitable partner for him. So the Lord
God formed out of the ground various
wild animal and birds of the air, and
he brought them to the man to see
what he would call them; whatever the
man called each of them would be its
name. The man gave names to all the
cattle, all the birds of the air, and all
the wild animals but none proved to
be the suitable partner for the man. So
the Lord cast a deep sleep on the
man, and while he was asleep, he took
out one of his ribs and closed up its
place with flesh.
The Lord God then built up to a
woman the rib that He had taken from
the man. The man said: This one, at
last is bone of my bones and flesh of
my flesh. This one shall be called
woman for out of her man this one
has been taken. That is why a man
leaves his father and mother and
clings to his wife, and the two shall
become one body.
The Word of the Lord.

All:

Thanks be to God.

RESPONSORIAL PSALM
Reader:

Let our response be:

HAPPY ARE THOSE WHO FEAR THE
LORD.

Reader:

Happy are you who fear the Lord, who

walk in his ways! For you shall eat the
fruit of yours handiwork; Happy shall
you be, and favored. (Response)

All:

HAPPY ARE THOSE WHO FEAR THE

LORD.

Reader:

Your wife shall be like a fruitful vine in

the recesses of your home; your
children like olive plant around your
table. (Response)

All:

HAPPY ARE THOSE WHO FEAR THE

LORD.

Reader:

Behold, thus is the man blessed who

fears the Lord, the Lord bless you from
Zion. May you see the prosperity of
Jerusalem all the days of your life.
(Response)

All:

HAPPY ARE THOSE WHO FEAR THE

LORD.

SECOND READING
5:21-32)
Commentator:

(Ephesians

Love gives & forgives, accepts and

adjusts. Love knows no boundaries as
Gods love is unconditional. In married
life, disagreements develop but never
5

let anger overpower love. Always

remain in love because love will never
get you wrong
Reader:

Let us listen to the second reading.

A reading from the Letter of St. Paul
the Ephesians
Brothers and sisters, live in love, as
Christ love us and handed himself over
for us. Be subordinate to one another
out of reverence for Christ. Husband,
love your wives, even as Christ love
the church and handed himself over
for her sanctify her, cleansing her by
the bath of water with the word, that
he might present to himself the church
splendor, without spot or wrinkle or
any such thing, that she might be holy
and without blemish. So also husbands
should love their wives as their own
bodies. He who loves his wife love
himself, for no one hates his own flesh
but nourishes and cherishes it, even
as Christ does the church, because we
are member of his body.
For this reason a man shall leave his
father and his mother and be joined to
his wife, and the two shall become one
flesh. This is a great mystery, but I
speak in reference to Christ and his
church. In any case, each one of you
should love his wife as himself, and
the wife should respect her husband.

Fr. John:

The lord be with you.

All:

And with your spirit.

Fr. John:

A reading from the Holy Gospel

according to St. Matthew.

All:

Glory to you, O Lord.

Fr. John:

Some Pharisees approached him and

tested him, saying: Is it lawful for a
man to divorce his wife for any cause
whatsoever? He said in reply, Have
you not read from the time beginning,
the man shall leave his father and
mother and be joined to his wife, the
two shall become one flesh? So they
are no longer two, but one flesh.
Therefore, what God has joined
together, no human being must
separate.

RITES OF MARRIAGE
LIGHTNING OF CANDLES
Commentator:

May we request the candle sponsors,

to light the wedding candles.
The candles represent the light of life
which is given by God as we all
receive the light, so shall we pass it
on, the light of faith to dispel doubt;
the light of life to guide our path.
May we request the parents and the
principal sponsors to come forward to
witness the exchange of vows of the
couple.

ALLOCUTION
Fr. John:

(addressing the couple) Hand in hand,

you enter marriage, hand in hand you
step out of faith. The hand you freely
give to each other is both the
strongest and the most tender part of
your body. In the years ahead you will
need both strength and tenderness.
Be firm in your commitment. Dont let
your
hold
become
intolerable.
Strength
and
tenderness,
firm
commitment and flexibility, of such a
marriage made, hand in hand.
Also remember that you dont walk
this alone. Dont be afraid to reach out
to other when together you face
difficulty. Other hands are there:
friends and the church. To accept an
outreached hand is not an admission
of failure, but an act of faith.
9

For behind us, underneath us, around

us are the outreached arms of the
Lord. It is into His hand, the hands of
God in Jesus Christ that, above all else,
we commit this union of husband and
wife. Amen.
And you, my brothers and sisters, may
I ask you to help them with your
prayers and accept them as a new
couple in our Christian community.

Commentator:

May I now call the veil sponsors to be

ready for the laying of the symbols of
unity and responsibility.
Veil is the symbol of purity in married
life. Jeroun and Erla, in Baptism you
were clothed with white garments
symbolizing the new life of the purity
and joy in the Lord to which Christ has
called you.
Lord, we pray to you that as we put
this wedding veil to Jeroun and Erla
may they be preserved from all harm,
keep their hearts chaste and pure and
16

direct them to live their life in fidelity

and simplicity.
Cord is the symbol of unity and
togetherness. Lord, as we put this
conjugal cord to Jeroun and Erla, may
they be reminded of the sanctity of
marriage bond and the inseparable
unity of their marriage state.
Ribbon is the symbol of Gods Love
and harmony for you.
Lord, as we put this ribbon to Jeroun
and Erla, may their union brings color
and meaning to their lives and to the
people you have gathered in love.
Rosary Cord is the symbol of faith
and filial devotion to our Blessed
Mother.

Lord, as we put this rosary cord to

Jeroun and Erla, may they be
reminded that they may live faithfully
to each other under the maternal
cares and guidance of our Lady,
Blessed Virgin Mary.

Please all stand.

It is right and Just.

Father, all powerful and ever living
God, we do well always and
everywhere to give you thanks. By this
sacrament, your Erla unites man and
woman in an unbreakable bond of love
and peace. You have designed the
chaste love of husband and wife for
the increase of the human family and
of your own family born in Baptism.
You are the living Father of the new
creation of Erla. In Christian marriage,
you bring together the two orders of
creation, natures gift of children
enriches the world and your Erla
enriches also you church. Through
18

Christ the choirs of angels and all the

saints praise and worship your glory.

19

Fr. John:

Lord, you are indeed Holy, the fount of

all holiness. Make holy, therefore,
these gifts, we pray, by sending down
like the dewfall, so that they may
become for us the body and blood of
our Lord Jesus Christ. At the time he
was betrayed and entered willingly
into his passion, he took bread and
giving thanks, broke it, and give it to
his disciples, saying.
TAKE THIS, ALL OF YOU AND EAT OF
IT. THIS IS MY BODY WHICH WILL BE
GIVEN UP FOR YOU.
In a similar way, when supper was
ended, he took the chalice, and, once
more giving thanks, he gave it to his
disciples, saying:
TAKE THIS, ALL OF YOU AND DRINK
FROM IT, FOR THIS IS MY CHALICE OF
MY BLOOD, THE BLOOD OF THE NEW
AND ETERNAL COVENANT, WHICH
WILL BE POURED OUT FOR YOU AND
FOR MANY FOR THE FORGIVENESS OF
SINS. DO THIS IN MEMORY OF ME.

the fullness of charity, together with
Francis, Pope, Rolando, our Archbishop
and all the clergy.
Remember also our brothers and

hope of the resurrection, and all who
have died in your mercy; welcome
them into the light of your face. Have
mercy on us all, we pray, that with the
blessed Apostles, and all the Saints
who have pleased you throughout the
ages, we may merit to be co-heirs to
eternal life, through your Son, Jesus
Christ.
Through Him, and with Him, and in
Him, O God, Almighty Father, in the
unity of the Holy Spirit, all glory and
honor is yours, forever and ever.
