1 User level
The latest version of the recommendation is implemented (-7). Two
computation modes are available:
the fast mode: this mode is valid only for field-strength computation on
profiles and coverages since field-strength on every point between the transmitter
and the receiver has to be computed. This mode allows to save computation time
since each field-strength computation at the current point provides precomputed
elements for the next point;
the last point mode: this mode is always valid. It requires no precomputed
values on previous point of the profiles and, as a result, works more slowly than
the fast mode. Somehow, it can be usefully selected for computations on restricted
areas such as polygonal zones (e.g. zones excluding the transmitter).
From now on, the statement of the parameters selected in the dialog box is
saved for the next call.
2 Practice level
UK-Ireland coordination agreements are mainly based on rec. 370-7s curves.
Some of the modifications or additions are activated in ICS Telecom when selecting
the line CEPT T/R 2008 E in the 370-7 dialog box. The following features can be
found:
additional curves for effective antenna heights h1 =9 m and h1 =18 m, (from
the rec. CEPT T/R 20-08 E) have been added to the implementation of curves of
rec. 370-7 figure 10. The interpolation method between the different values h1
remains the same as in rec. 370-7 ;
ground irregularity is no longer taken into account: (i.e. no clearance angle
is computed and h is forced to 50 m), whatever the user selects in the
corresponding boxes;
the percentage of location is forced to 50 % too;
the refractive index gradient correction also disappears (equivalently, N
is forced to 40 N-units);
for full sea paths, an additional correction loss is inserted: 10 dB;
for full land paths, a different correction loss is inserted: 10 dB out to 50
km, 3 dB beyond 100 km and linear interpolation by [10;3] dB through [50;100]
km ;
for mixed land/sea paths, full sea path and full land path corrections are
weighted according to their proportions;
the UHF band is automatically selected, for any transmitter frequencies.
for frequencies above 890 MHz (GSM), a correction term of 2 dB is
added;
Other features are 370-7s. Note the the Rx antenna height entered in ICS
has no influence on the output.
Figure 1: example of field strength profile (green) when the option free space is on and the option
clearance angle is off. Along the ten first kilometers, the green curve is the same as the red curve (free
space attenuation).
Figure 2: field strength profile on the same path as Figure 1s, when the option log-parabolic
interpolation is on and the option clearane angle is off. The field strength displayed is continous.
figure 4: example of coverage obtained when the option no field strength displayed is selected for
the 10 first kilometers. This option may be useful to avoid undesirable biaised values for interference
calculations.
