III. The Nature of Sin
a. Sin Means to Miss the Mark of the Divine Standard.
b. Sin is a Deviation, a Lapse, a Falling Aside from God's Requirement.
c. Sin is a Distortion, a Perversion, a Bending of That Which is Right a
nd Thus making it Crooked.
d. Sin is the Passing Over the Prescribed Boundary of God's Law, Hence I
t Is Transgression.
e. Sin is an Affront to God, that Is, Man Dares to Stand in God's Presen
ce and Rebel Against Him.
f. Sin is the Betrayal of a Trust, Unfaithfulness.
g. Sin is an Offence, an Error, a Negligence.
h. Sin is a Debt, a Failure in Duty, a not Meeting One's Obligations to
God.

a. Pollution
Man in his sin is compared:
1. To an adder from his venom (Psa. 140:3).
2. To an ass for his stubbornness (Job 11:12).
3. To a bear for his cruelty (Dan. 7:5).
4. To a canker-worm for his destructiveness (Joel 2:25).
5. To a dog for his uncleanness (Prov. 26:11).
6. To a dragon for his desolateness (Job 30:29).
7. To a fox for his cunning (Luke 13:32).
8. To a leopard for his fierceness (Dan. 7:6).
9. To a lion for his ravening (Psa. 22:13).
10.To a moth for his frailty (Job 27:18).
11.To a sheep for his stupidity (Isa. 53:6).
12.To a spider's web for its flimsiness (Isa. 59:5).
13.To a swine for his filthiness (2 Pet. 2:22).
14.To a viper for his poison (Matt. 23:33).
15.To a wolf for his ferociousness (John 10:12).
b. Penalty
The penalty of sin may be summed up under seven words, namely:
1. "Death" is the Denotative Word.
2. "Lost" is the Descriptive Word.
3. "Condemnation" is the Judicial Word.
4. "Guilt" is the Indicative Word.
5. "Perdition" is the Prospective Word.
6. "Punishment" is the Conscious Word.
7. "Eternal" is the Durative Word.
