This book, written for the benefit of engineering students and practicing engineers alike, is the culmination of the authors four
decades of experience related to the subject of electrical measurements, comprising nearly 30 years of experimental research and
more than 15 years of teaching at several engineering institutions.
The unique feature of this book, apart from covering the syllabi of various universities is the style of presentation of all important
aspects and features of electrical measurements, with neatly and clearly drawn figures, diagrams and colour and b/w photos that
illustrate details of instruments among other things, making the text easy to follow and comprehend. Enhancing the chapters are
interspersed explanatory comments and, where necessary, footnotes to help better understanding of the chapter contents. Also,
each chapter begins with a recall to link the subject matter with the related science or phenomenon and fundamental background.
The first few chapters of the book comprise Units, Dimensions and Standards; Electricity, Magnetism and Electromagnetism and Network
Analysis. These topics form the basics of electrical measurements and provide a better understanding of the main topics discussed in later chapters.
The last two chapters represent valuable assets of the book, and relate to
(a) Magnetic Measurements, describing many unique features not easily available elsewhere, a good study of which is essential for the design and
development of most electric equipment from motors to transformers and alternators, and
(b) Measurement of Non-electrical Quantities, dealing extensively with the measuring techniques of a number of variables that constitute an
important requirement of engineering measurement practices.
The book is supplemented by ten appendices covering various aspects dealing with the art and science of electrical measurement and of relevance
to some of the topics in main chapters. Other useful features of the book include an elaborate chapter-by-chapter list of symbols, worked examples,
exercises and quiz questions at the end of each chapter, and extensive authors and subject index.
This book will be of interest to all students taking courses in electrical measurements as a part of a B.Tech. in electrical engineering. Professionals
in the field of electrical engineering will also find the book of use.

Computational Methods for Electric Power Systems is an introductory overview of computational methods used for analytical
studies in power systems and other engineering and scientific fields. As power systems increasingly operate under stressed
conditions, techniques such as computer simulation remain integral to control and security assessment. This volume analyzes the
algorithms used in commercial analysis packages and presents salient examples of their implementation that are simple and thorough
enough to be reproduced easily. Most of the examples were produced using MATLAB language.
Presents General Theory Applicable to Different Systems: Commercial packages routinely fail or give erroneous results
when used to simulate stressed systems, and understanding their underlying numerical algorithms is imperative to correctly interpret their results. This
edition paints a broad picture of the methods used in such packages but omits extraneous detail. It includes new chapters that address function
approximation and finite element analysis, in addition to new sections on:
Numerical differentiation
Secant method
Power method for computing dominant eigenvalues
Matrix pencil method
This book will enable users to make better choices and improve their grasp of the situations in which methods may failinstilling greater confidence
in the use of commercial packages.

Power Quality: VAR Compensation in Power Systems
NEW
Both deregulation in the electrical supply industry and the creation of new electricity markets present electric utility companies with
the challenge of becoming more efficient without compromising quality of service. Providing new solutions for this newly deregulated
paradigm, Power Quality: VAR Compensation in Power Systems presents comprehensive coverage of power quality, harmonics,
and static var compensators in one single volume. The book explains how to ensure that power quality is not affected by the
harmonics generated by power electronic equipment and explains how to reduce labor costs and increase reliability of supply by
employing a single pole autoreclosing scheme. It also addresses how to analyze frequency response of current transformers and
voltage transformers while measuring harmonics. Based on the authors extensive experience in the electric supply industry, Power
Quality enables engineers to meet the demands of increased loads, strengthen their transmission systems, and ensure reliable electric supply.
Contents: 1. Power Quality, 2. Static Var Compensators, 3. Control of Static Var Compensators, 4. Harmonics, 5. Utility Harmonic Regulations and

NEW
Electronics: Basic, Analog, and Digital with PSpice does more than just make unsubstantiated assertions about electronics.
Compared to most current textbooks on the subject, it pays significantly more attention to essential basic electronics and the
underlying theory of semiconductors. In discussing electrical conduction in semiconductors, the author addresses the important
but often ignored fundamental and unifying concept of electrochemical potential of current carriers, which is also an instructive
link between semiconductor and ionic systems at a time when electrical engineering students are increasingly being exposed to
biological systems. The text presents the background and tools necessary for at least a qualitative understanding of new and
projected advances in microelectronics. The author provides helpful PSpice simulations and associated procedures (based on
schematic capture, and using OrCAD 16.0 Demo software), which are available for download. These simulations are explained
in considerable detail and integrated throughout the book. The book also includes practical, real-world examples, problems, and
other supplementary material, which helps to demystify concepts and relations that many books usually state as facts without offering at least some
plausible explanation. With its focus on fundamental physical concepts and thorough exploration of the behavior of semiconductors, this book enables
readers to better understand how electronic devices function and how they are used. The books foreword briefly reviews the history of electronics
and its impact in todays world.
