Q1.

Consider the emitter follower shown below (left), with VCC = 10 V, I =100 mA and RL
=100 . If the output voltage is an 8-V peak sinusoid, find the following:
(a) the power delivered to the load.
(b) the average power drawn from the supplies .
(c) the power conversion efficiency.
Ignore the loss in Q3 and R.

is sinusoid with 4.5 V peak amplitude, find
(a) the output power .
(b) the average power drawn from each supply.
(c) the power efficiency obtained at this output voltage.
(d) peak current supplied by vI assuming that N = P = 50.
(e) the maximum power that each transistor must be capable of dissipating safely.
Ans. (a) 2.53 W, (b) 2.15W, (c) 59%, (d) 22.1mA, (e) 0.91W

Q3.

Consider a VBE multiplier with R1 = R2 = 1.2 k, utilizing a transistor that has VBE = 0.6 V
at IC = 1 mA, and a very high .
(a) find the value of the current I that should be supplied to the multiplier to obtain a
terminal voltage of 1.2 V.
(b) find the value of I that will result in the terminal voltage changing (from the 1.2 V
value) by +50mV, +100mV, +200mV, -50mV, -100mV, -200mV.
Ans. (a) 1.5 mA; (b) 3.24 mA, 7.93 mA, 5.518 mA, 0.85 mA, 0.59 mA, 0.43 mA.

Q4.

A Class-C amplifier has a base bias voltage of -5 V and VCC = 30 V. It is determined that a
peak input voltage of 9.8 V at 1 MHz is required to drive the transistor to its saturation
current of 1.8 A. Find the conduction angle, output power at 1 MHz and efficiency. If an
LC tank having C = 200 pF is connected in the collector circuit, find the inductance
necessary to tune the amplifier.
Ans: 108.9, 9.64 W, 92.5%, 0.127 mH

Q5.

If a Class B output stage is operating at 75% efficiency, and dissipating an average power
of 0.9 W per transistor. Determine the average power consumed by the load RL.
Ans: 5.4 W

Q6.

Given that the output vo a Class B amplifier is a sinusoid with 12 V peak amplitude,
determine the load RL, which consumes a power of 8 W.
Ans: 9

of 2
