Oxbow Books is pleased to announce that it has just been appointed as the distributor of the titles of the Egypt
Exploration Society. The EES was founded as the Egypt Exploration Fund in 1882 by the redoubtable English
novelist and travel writer Amelia Edwards, along with Reginald Stuart Poole of the British Museum, whose aim
was to raise funds for excavations in the Nile Delta. The young William Petrie dominated the Funds fieldwork
programme for many years. It was not long before the Funds interests extended beyond the Delta to the rest of Egypt,
particularly Abydos, Tell el-Amarna, Saqqara, Memphis and Nubia. In addition, a Graeco-Roman branch was
founded in the 1890s to excavate and publish thousands of papyri documents at the city of Oxyrhynchus, a massive
project that is still ongoing. You will find below a full backlist of the Societys publications (EES members are eligible for a
