Project
This project offers a very good understanding of Olympic games and doping usage in sports. The
primary main aim of this project is to make an awareness and knowledge of the Olympic games,
to make contributions to the sportive education schedules at participating organizations, and
furthermore, while arising an awareness about Olympic games, to inform every stakeholders
about dangers of using doping in sports, both for professional and amateur sportsmen. What is
more, by the courses and instructions during the project activities, we aim to inform everybody
about the philosophy of Olympics at the same time.

In the history of the Olympic games, Turkey has won 88 medals, which puts them in the top
20% of medal winning countries. They have particpated in 36 Olympics, so they have averaged
2.4 medals each Olympics.
Out of all those medals, most (about 44%) are gold medals. Turkey athletes really know how to
go for the gold! Next up are silver medals at about 28% of the total medals, followed by bronze
medals at 27%.
Like most countries, Turkey has won most of its medals in the Summer Games.
In the history of the Olympic games, Romania has won302 medals, which puts them in the top
10% of medal winning countries. They have particpated in 39 Olympics, so they have averaged
7.7 medals each Olympics.
Out of all those medals, most (about 40%) are bronze medals. Next up are silver medals at
about 31% of the total medals, followed by gold medals at 29%.
Like most countries, Romania has won most of its medals in the Summer Games. In fact, they
have won about 301 times as many medals in the summer compared to the winter.

Derivation: from the Dutch word dop, Zulu warriors used this beverage prior to battle.
Term became current ~ beginning of 20th century in reference to illegal drugging of racehorses.

Motivations for Use of DOPING

To enhance performance

Increased strength, endurance, alertness, aggression

Decreased reaction time, fatigue, anxiety, muscle tremor

Drive to win

Financial incentives

Belief that others are using PES (performance enhancing substances

Coping with pain and injury rehabilitation

Weight control

To alleviate stress & anxiety

To relieve boredom

To avoid dealing with personal problems

To alleviate low self-confidence

Lack of acknowledgment (DENIAL) of any harmful effects of PES

Perfectionism

Peer pressure and acceptance

Pressure from coaches/parents/advisors/national sports organizations

Why is doping banned?


Major reasons why some substances are banned. These are:

Health Concerns - some drugs used by athletes can have serious effects on an individuals
health. e.g. Anabolic Steroids

Ethical Concerns - The use of certain drugs which do not pose a major health risk, but
may offer a performance advantage over other athletes. This may be considered cheating.
e.g. Beta Blockers

Legal Concerns - some drugs are banned because they are illegal in general society. e.g.
Cocaine

Barriers to Prevention of Doping

Fuzzy line between performance enhancement through legal means and doping
