SECTION B SHORT ANSWER

Question 1
In triangle ABC, a = 12, c = 8 and C = 35.
Find two possible values of A, correct to 2 decimal places.

(3 marks)

Question 2
Sam needs to fence his triangular plot of land. The angle between the two shorter sides
measures 80. The two shorter sides measure 121 m and 210 m.
a. Draw a diagram for the situation described above.

b. How much fencing does Sam need?

c. How much is the area of his land?

(1 + 2 + 2 = 5 marks)

Question 3
A chicken coop has two spaces, one for nesting and one for eating.
The nesting and eating spaces are separated by a wall along the line AX, as shown in the
diagram.

DX = 3.16 m, ADX = 45 and AXD = 60

a) Write down a calculation to show that the value of is 75.

b) Find the length of AX. Write your answer in metres, correct to 2 decimal places.

c) Calculate the area of the floor of the nesting space ADX. Write your answers in m2,
correct to one decimal place.

then changes her direction and runs for 6.2km on a bearing of 053T to point C.
a. Draw a diagram for the situation described above

b. What is the distance she must run to reach her original destination?

c. What is the final bearing she must run in order to reach point A again from point C?

(2 + 2 + 3 = 7 marks)

SECTION C EXTENDED RESPONSE QUESTION

In the diagram below, the entry gate of an adventure park is located at point G. The canoeing
activity is located 40m from the entry gate at point C, and the waterslide 90m from that, at
point W. the angle GCW is 120.

a) Find the distance from the water slide to the entry gate, GW, to the nearest metre.

b) Hence find the remaining angles in the triangle, to the nearest degree.

c) Evaluate the area that is enclosed by the 3 paths, GC, CW and GW, to 2 decimal
places.
