people of different gender relate to. These assertions inspired the perception that gender is binary,
a fact that necessitates the categorization of all women and the different needs that they have in
one group. This is a flawed perception because it limits the possibilities that can be explored on
matters of feminism, including the pursuit of individual identities. She further scoffs at the notion
that these personspeople voiced their disagreement with the precept that biological identity
should have defined the destiny of people; this had been, before they developed the accounts that
arewere to support the inherent patriarchal culture of the society. This iswas because of the
assumption that feminine and masculine genders would be established on the cultural stereotypes
that were determined by the bodies of these individuals. This meant that their destinies were
clearly determined and they could not escape from them. She takes issue with this perception
because it does not give room for people to express their resistance or a different opinion.
In the course of her writing, Butler advocates for the adoption of positions that would
present danger as a relationship among different subjects within the social setting who undergo
the experiences that can be related to specific social contexts. This means that gender should not
be defined as a fixed attribute of the individual in question. Consideration should be given to the
changing nature of gender roles, especially the fact that it is a variable which is bound to
experience subtle shifts and changes depending on the context and the time frame that is in
question. Butler also contends that it is the nature of being either female or male that will inform
the gender options of femininity or masculinity that people will identify with. These gender
identities are responsible for instigating the attraction with personsthe people of the opposite
gender. This concept informs her argument, that desire and gender isare not the products of any
stable factors, rather an aftermath realized from flexible sentiments within the society.
Most notably, she points out the fact that there is no need for attaching identity to the
different expressions that are associated with gender. This is because identity can be constructed
through expressions, which may also constitute the results of such processes. Consequently,
gender can be defined as the performance of individuals. This makes it the result of actions that
are undertaken at a specific time, as opposed to the notion that they are issues merit universal
consideration. The existences of cultural configurations that are informed by gender have
introduced hegemony over the society; this is, because of the natural way that they can be
embedded into the culture of modern day societies. Butler argues against this by proposing the
adoption of revolutionary mindsets that will eliminate the confusion that is associated with
gender identity. Summarily, Butlerthe author argues that the definition of gender should not be
limited to the views that people might have on sexuality. She calls on personsthe people to
reinvent the concept of gender by incorporating wide scope societal issues and constructs.
Escape from the Prison House
Escape from the prison house is possible. It can only be inspired by a change in the
perception held by individuals, to makinge them more accommodative to modern points of view.
This is because the traditional definition has limited scope through which this concept can be
handled. Myopic definitions of gender have made isit a contentious topic within the society
because of the emotive reactions that they inspire from stakeholdersdifferent sides. Present day
discussions about gender identities and roles are influenced by hard line positions that are
inspired by incessant arguments which arise from the perpetual state of competition between the
masculine and feminine personalities within the society. This will only change if the society
takes cognizance of the fact that all attempts to define gender should adopt a broad perspective,
which will be responsive to the individual needs that each of the different categories of women
relate to.
Parody
Butler's parody is anthe attempt to construct the concept of feminism based on the
perspective of political powers that oversee the affairs of a specific area of jurisdiction. This is
achieved because the state of affairs features the removal of assumptions which inform the
characterisation of women as subjects. The parody is presented as a collection of invisible
assumptions. These assumptions are formulated carefully and they are directly related to the
prevalent thoughts on gender identity and lack of a functional relationship with the ontological
responsibilities that inform these roles. The redeployment of such practices is important because
it will facilitate the identification and exposure of failed attempts that people have made to
associate with their gender. SheThe author believed that this change is beneficial and it can
inspire positive and transformative political discourse.
