sticks
here!
First there was the selfie. Now there is the selfie stick! Selfie sticks
are very popular, but be careful* where you use them! Lots of places
have a new rule: You mustn't use your selfie stick here!

014 was the year of the selfie,

but 2015 is the year of the selfie
stick! Even Bsrack Obams and the
Pope are using one! Selfie sticks
make it easy to take a good photo
because you don't have to hold
your arm out or take a picture in
your bedroom mirror. "Using a selfie
stick can be a bit strange," said
Lucy Merryfield, age 13, "but you
can get your friends in the photo
too, and more of the background'

But sometimes you have to leave

your selfie stick at home! More and
more places around the world, from
the Museum of Modern Art in New
York to the Colosseum in Rome, are
banning* selfie sticks. Why?
Some football stadiums and music
venues* say you must not use selfie
sticks because they can stop other
people seeing the game or the
show. Some theme parks say you
mustn't use them because a selfie
stick can be dangerous on a ride.
Some museums and art galleries

say you must not use them because

they can damage paintings,
sculptures and statues.
But is it good idea? "Selfie sticks
are annoying* sometimes!" said
Jade Booth, 11. "Museums and art
galleries are nice, quiet places, but
selfie sticks make people noisy
and excited!" Lewis Parker doesn't
agree. "I think it's a bad ides.
They're just a bit of fun:'

Where can't you use selfie sticks in

the UK? Here are six famous places:
The Emirates Stadium
(Arsenal football club)
They say: 'A selfie stick can
be a weapon'

2 Alton Towers
They say: 'We want people to
remember their day here, but
selfie sticks are dangerous:'

3 The National Gallery

They say: 'We want to
protect our paintings and we want our visitors
to have a nice experience:'

4 CROWN sogoet - October 2015

4 The 02
They say: "We welcome
selfiea, but just use your
arm, please!"

5 Wimbledon
They say: "Selfie sticks
can stop other people
watching the tennis!"

The Royal Opera House

They say: "You mustn't
use cameras at the Royal
Opera House, and
certainly no selfie sticks'

Must or mustn't?
At Disney World in Florida, USA, you can use a selfie stick, but
they have strict* rules about them! Write must or mustn't:
