Played a leadership in the newsroom while managing, creating and editing content for all
platforms of the Windsor Star. As a senior copy editor, was responsible for analyzing and
understanding the digital audience and establishing best practices in an ever-changing
environment.
Reported on numerous stories for print and online, including breaking news, general
news and investigative features.
Responsible for creating a video strategy and overseeing video production in the
newsroom. Role required mentoring and coaching reporters as well as supervising their
work.
Produced, filmed and edited numerous events in the News Cafe, which required
knowledge of sound mixing, lighting and videography.
Managed all social media platforms for the Windsor Star, including Facebook, Twitter,
Instagram and Google Plus. Have an extensive knowledge of social media as a means of
news gathering and reporting.

REPORTER, WINDSOR STAR; WINDSOR, ONT. 2011-2016
In a position constantly in flux, duties included covering general assignment news stories,
producing daily podcasts, analyzing and creating data visualizations and producing live
video on www.windsorstar.com.
Produced a daily podcast highlighting the top news stories and included weekly phonein interviews from politicians including former Windsor Mayor Eddie Francis.
Produced, anchored and edited daily video newscasts which highlighted the top news
stories of the day and interviewed experts and newsmakers in Windsor and Essex
County.
Managed all social media platforms for the Windsor Star including its Facebook,
Instagram, Twitter, LinkedIn and Google Plus pages. This included measuring analytics
and how that drove traffic to the website.
Assisted in the redesign of the Windsor Star website which involved both the design of
the website as well as reimagining the workflow for reporters posting stories online.
Assisted in the outfitting and design of the Windsor Stars New Cafe. As one of the first
newspapers in Canada to have a cafe of this calibre, was responsible for all sound,
lighting and video production.
ASSISTANT INSTRUCTOR, UNIVERSITY OF WINDSOR; WINDSOR, ONT. 2015-PRESENT
Reported on general news stories that covered a wide array of subjects from breaking
news to in-depth features for the online and print editions of the Windsor Star.
Covered every municipal, provincial and federal election since 2009. This included
interviewing candidates vying for a seat at each level as well as issues affecting residents
in Windsor and Essex County as a result of the election.
Covered county and city council meetings which often involved last-minute research
into what issues were before council at that specific meeting.
Dealt with communication officers from a wide-array of organizations including Windsor
police, regional hospitals, school boards and municipalities.
The position dealt with tight deadlines and helped develop exemplary time
management skills.
Awards
Won the 2015 Ontario Newspaper Award for Online Video for a video series which
profiled the federal election candidates. The interactive video allowed viewers to select
an issue and hear the response of the desired candidate.
Won the Ontario Newspaper Award in 2014 for Online Media Special Project as part of
the Windsor Stars Windsor Gone series. The series involved building special story
pages using HTML and CSS, collecting data and creating infographics and interactive
visualizations.
Nominated for another 2014 Ontario Newspaper Awards for Municipal Affairs reporting.
The Municipal Affairs reporting nomination for Trail Talk involved setting up a full studio
each morning to host guests involved in the 2014 municipal election. The show
regularly broke news stories and helped give all candidates a platform regardless of
their budget.
Played an integral part in the Windsor Stars The Way of the Gun series which won a
2013 Ontario Newspaper Award for Online Multimedia Special Project. For the project,
data had to be collected and displayed in coherent infographics and interactive
visualizations which enhanced the gravitas of the series. Responsible for laying out the
stories and embedding photographs, graphics, video and audio clips which all helped
contribute to the expansive experience for the series.
