Trauma Patients
Survey Brochure

Purpose:
The purpose of this survey
was to determine the
general publics
understanding of trauma
patients and to determine
the prevalence of trauma
patients in the ER.

Hypotheses:
1. 10% of people
admitted to the ER are
trauma patients.
2. Males are more likely
to be trauma patients
than females.
3. Majority of people are
not able to differentiate
between regular
patients and trauma
patients.

Survey Method
The survey was created
through a website
called Survey Monkey.

Survey questions
1. Which of the following is NOT an example of a
trauma patient?
-A patient who injured his eye with a bungee
cord
-An inebriated patient who dislocated her patella
after a fall
-A patient who was covered in
contusions/bruises after getting into a fight
-A patient who is brought in after a car
crash with vocal cord paralysis
2. What is your gender?
3. Have you ever been admitted to the ER?
4. If yes, for what reason?
5. Can you give specific details about the situation?
6. Do you know if you were considered a trauma
patient?
7. Has a relative or friend of yours ever been admitted
in the ER?
8. If yes, for what reason were they admitted?
9. Can you give specific details about the situation?
Male or Female?
10. Was he/she considered a trauma patient?
Participants
The target audience was the general
public. Since everybody is capable of
knowing or being a trauma patient,
anybody could take the survey.
Responses were gathered from 52
different participants. Participants were
recruited through teachers and social
media.

Conclusion:
The first hypothesis predicted that 10% of all patients would be trauma patients. This was a fairly
accurate guess since about 11% of patients were found to be considered trauma patients. The second
hypothesis predicted that males are more likely to be trauma patients than females, however this was
proven wrong. 75% of trauma patients were females. The third hypothesis was that a majority of
people would not be able to differentiate between trauma patients and regular patients. This was also
proven wrong, since about 58% of participants picked the right answer. Overall, the hypotheses made
were mostly incorrect. I learned about the general publics knowledge of trauma patients and how
common trauma patients are in the ER. In the future, I would like to conduct a survey that would
address the types of trauma injuries that are most common.
