lelo Noeau Project Overview

Essential Question:
How can I use the story of my growth as a kanaka to positively impact my community?

What is this project all about?

This project is about exploring who you are as a kanaka, and how your makua or kupuna have
taught you how to live pono. You will discover or rediscover the lelo Noeau of our kupuna that
teach us about the N Mea Waiwai that we embrace here at Ka Waihona O Ka Naauao.
Throughout the course of this project, you will learn how to analyze information, how to write a
script for a presentation, how to create a Pechakucha presentation and most importantly, you will
share your personal definition of N Mea Waiwai with the world.

To what knowledge and skills is this project aligned?

Through this project, you will be asked to apply your understanding and skills relating to:

Competencies
analyzing & evaluating information/text/data
synthesizing information
express your ideas powerfully

Leadership skills:
Problem solving and critical thinking - use multiple resources to plan, design, develop and
answer open-ended questions using higher order thinking skills.
Communicate and collaboration/Creativity and innovation - apply critical thinking, research
methods, and communication tools to create original work. Collaborate effectively with an
audience beyond the classroom to create original work.

How will you be assessed?

You will have an overall rubric to assess your final product and performance for the project. The
rubric will assess your analysis and synthesis of the evidence used to share the narrative of your
evolution from keiki to kuaana. You will also be assessed on the communication of your narrative
through your script and Pechakucha presentation during the makua/kupuna gallery walk at the end
of the project. Use the rubric as a tool as you progress through the project in order to check your
proficiency along the way. You will reflect and assess yourself on how well you critically analyzed
information. In addition to the final product rubric, each benchmark will have subject specific
rubrics from the kumu.
