Blending
traditions
Winter ushers in
the season of holidays
and time-honored
celebrations. This
family decided to blend
their own Hanukkah and Christmas
traditions into one unique decorating
scheme. In their dining room, a mix of
customs and colors create a setting that
is meaningful and festive. Add your
own twists to the projects featured here.

1 A clever take on a menorah
is created with nine moulding
corner blocks. Spray-paint
the blocks, and then use a hotglue gun to affix the candles
to the blocks for stability.
2 Ornaments and greenery
dress up a new chandelier
and provide an interesting
focal point. The chandelier
and the pre-lit tabletop trees
are decorated in shades of
blue and green, blending the
traditional colors of Christmas
and Hanukkah. Note: Fresh
trees and garland should be
kept a safe distance away
from hot bulbs and candles.

Good To Know
Whether fresh or faux,
set up your Christmas trees
away from heat sources,
such as fireplaces, space
heaters, and radiators.
A holiday
theme using
shades of
gold contributes
to the lofts
unified look.
Trimming
a small
space takes ingenuity,
and this chic urban
loft is a huge holiday
success. I can see my
entire apartment from
any corner, so I wanted
decorations that unify
the space, says this
homeowner. By decorating her apartment with gold
ornaments, sparkling lights, and tabletop trees, she
set the stage for a hip, yet elegant, holiday gathering.
Whatever the size or location of your home,
you can bring a similar style to your dcor. For
example, using ornaments of one color on a tree
allows for variation of shapes, sizes, and textures
without causing a visual overload. Let this space
inspire you to create your own glittering holiday
homewhether youre surrounded by bright
city lights or twinkling stars.

as good as gold
1 A metropolitan twist on the large
family tree, this display starts with a round
table covered by a drop cloth and a tree
skirt. A larger tree tops the table while
five small trees form a bottom row on
the floor. Applying gold spray paint to the
pots, which are included with the trees,
and using ornaments in a similar shade
create a cohesive color scheme.
2 Gold spray paint adds an urban edge
to these cranberry wreaths. For best
results, spray one side first, allow to dry,
and then spray the other side and let dry.

easy cooking
Crafted in the same style as the
cabinetry, a powerful hood above
the new gas range whisks away steam,
smoke, and fumes, helping to keep
the air in the home clean. A pot filler
puts water right at the cooks fingertips
when needed. Full-width cast-iron
burner grates give the flexibility
to place pots and pans anywhere
on the cooktop.

Narrow doors
open from the
center on this
model, with a
freezer on one
side and fridge
on the other. Its
great for small
areas where you
need minimal door
swing. The large freezer
also is good for those who
purchase lots of frozen foods.
Although, some models cant
accommodate wide items,
such as frozen pizzas.
This is a blend of
the side-by-side
and bottommount models.
It has less door
swing and has
the freezer
on the bottom,
which works well
for those who use
minimal frozen items and
have limited space. Be sure
you allow for enough room to
pull out the drawer fully.
