Westtown Thornbury Elementary, Grade 4
Instruct 26 academically and behaviorally diverse fourth grade students with services including: Learning
Support, Physical Therapy, Behavioral Support, Speech and Language, and Occupational Therapy.
Co-teach math with the Learning Support teacher while implementing the Singapore math approach through
the use of Math in Focus program while emphasizing a transition in thinking from concrete, to pictorial, to
abstract.
Collaborate with the Learning Support teacher, Special Services teachers, and parents to build the homeschool relationship while also modifying and enhancing student IEPs and 504 plans.
Immerse students in concepts through the use of technology including: iPads, computers, document cameras,
and Promethean interactive board.
Develop a variety of technology-integrated, common formative assessments using Plickers, Google Quizzes,
and Nearpod to gather immediate feedback to inform instruction.
Initiate student-led, goal-setting conferences to increase student ownership and accountability for learning
and behavior.
Participate in weekly Professional Learning Community meetings to analyze student data across all content
areas through the use of error analyses and data triangulation.
Lead professional development sessions for colleagues that focus on the implementation of instructional
technology including: Google Quizzes, Plickers, Nearpod, Twitter, Classroom Websites,
Collaborate with colleagues through the Kids 4 a Cure Committee, Earth Day Committee, and Social
Committee.
Participated in Schoology Pilot in order to provide feedback regarding effectiveness and appropriateness for
elementary students

Chosen as one of 48 Penn State University Elementary Education majors to participate in a collaborative 185 day, full time elementary
student teaching internship in a k-4th grade setting in the State College Area School District. This nationally recognized program received
the 2011 Spirit of Partnership Award and the 2009 Award for Exemplary Professional Development School Achievement from the
National Association for Professional Development Schools (NAPDS), and the 2004 Holmes Partnership Award for the best partnership
between a university and a school district.
Utilized Daily Five and CAF strategies with an emphasis on comprehension, accuracy, fluency, and
expanding vocabulary through the use of student choice.
Differentiated instruction through a writers workshop approach and multi-age team teaching model
with second and third grade students.
Formed collaborative, professional relationships with mentor teacher, advisor, paraprofessionals,
supervisors, specialist teachers, support staff, and other members of the faculty.
Conducted an inquiry research study and honors thesis regarding the impact of mindfulness in the
classroom setting of three primary classrooms.
