MECHANICAL ENGINEERING PROGRAM

KM10702 Engineering Drawings

Group Project
The objective of the group project for this course is to expose students on the application of
engineering drawing and environment of working in group.
Instructions: Form groups of maximum 5 persons per group. Each group will be assigned an object
(you can collect the object from my office). Your task in group will be:
1. Find out what the object is. Create a mocking company. Assumed that your company would like
to produce the object
2. As Engineer for the company, you need to prepare engineering drawing for the object to be used
by production personnel. In order to draw orthographic projection views and isometric view of
the object, You need to:
a. Determine the orthographic projection views; front, top side views.
b. Determine the orientation of the isometric view.
c. Determine the object dimensions.
d. Produce engineering drawing for the views (both scathes and AutoCAD).
3. Write a formal report (one report per group). Submit to my office the formal report with filled
confidential individual peer assessment form as per dateline. No extension on the due date will
be given. Failure to submit by the due date will lead to 0 (zero) marks for the group project
report, presentation and teamwork.

Presentation Format and Evaluation Form
The objective of this section is to explain the general contents and format for the group presentation by
each group project and the evaluation form used to evaluate the presentation.
1. The presentation requirements:
a. Attire must be formal.
b. Slides must be prepared and uploaded at the beginning of presentation session.
c. Presentation sessions will be conducted during lecture time (3 groups) and practical
sessions (9 groups).
d. Each group is given 15 minutes presentation and 5 minutes question and answers.
e. Each member in the group is required to participate in the presentation (presenting the
part assigned to him/her).
f. Failure to present will lead to zero marks in group project report, presentation and
teamwork. Unable to present due to medical reason will require the student to arrange
replacement time. Failure to replace will lead to zero mark.
2. Evaluation format as indicated in the evaluation form shown in Attachment 1.
Notes: This activity will also contribute to your PO9: Communication grade.

Report Format and Evaluation Form
The objective of this section is to explain the general contents and format for the report
submitted for each group project and the evaluation form used to evaluate the report.
3. The report contains the following:
a. Cover page (including group names and title, member names and matrix numbers)
b. Executive summary (summary of the report including brief description on the company,
studies conducted and findings)
c. Table of contents, figures and tables (all tables must be in separate pages)
d. Introduction (give brief introduction to the project and Company Background)
e. Objectives (the aim/s of the project)
f. Theory or Literature review (summaries these concepts; first angle projection view,
orthographic projection views, isometric view etc.)
g. Methodology or Procedure (how the project is carried out-such as how you determine the
top, front, side views and how you determine the center of radius of an arcs (if applicable)).
Include also sketches of figures and drawings.
h. Results and Analysis (briefly explain why you select the sides as top, side and front views.
Include also figures and drawings (both sketches and AutoCAD printouts))
i. Discussion/ recommendation (include comments as in part g, h and e.)
j. Conclusion
k. References (minimum 5 references must be refereed in the text must only from books or
journals (websites or Wikipedia are not accepted)) and Appendices (if necessary)
4. The report format is as followed:
a. The report should be typed using font 11, Tahoma.
b. The report should be typed using 1.5 spacing.
c. Please refer to FYP handbook for format on referencing styles and captions on tables and
figures. Notes: All ideas that are not belonging to you should be properly accredited to the
owner (used proper referencing styles in your report).
5. Report evaluation form is as shown in the following Attachment 2.
Notes: This activity will also contribute to your PO9: Communication grade.

Teamwork Peer Assessment Form
The objective of this section is to explain the peer assessment form used to evaluate the
teamwork. The marks for teamwork will be evaluated by each member in the group as
shown in the form provided in Attachment 3.
Each student is required to fill up the form by listing the members of his/her group
(including herself/himself as the first name). For each member, assess the contribution that
the member made to the submitted work (including herself/himself). The areas assessed
are:
Willingness to work and share with the group (Teamwork)
Attendances to the group meeting (Attendances)
Contribution made to the assessment component (Contribution)
Please give score as guided by the quality index below:
5: Excellent,
4: Very Good,
3: Good,
2: Needs Improvement,
1:Needs lot of improvement
Each student is required to submit this form to the respective lecturer in a seal enveloped
before Friday 5pm on Week 14. Your feedback is confidential. Failure to submit this form
will lead to a zero mark for marks on teamwork, group project report, and presentation.

Notes: This activity will also contribute to your PO10: Individual and Teamwork
