Dear parents / carers

As many if not all of you will be aware Ofsted undertook an inspection of Deben
High School on the 4th 5th March 2009. The report of the inspection is enclosed
with this letter. Overall the school is considered by the Ofsted inspection team to
provide a satisfactory level of education.

The process of undertaking an inspection requires that the Headteacher, Mr

Cawley, submits a detailed self-evaluation of many aspects of the school as
required by Ofsted. I am very pleased to say that the Ofsted inspection team
having completed their review agreed with the ratings of all the major categories
and the overall assessment of the school in the self-evaluation. In addition there
was also general agreement of the strengths of the school and those areas that
provide opportunities for improvement. As these were recognised by the school as
part of its self-evaluation many initiatives have already been put into place at
various times since September. These were noted by the inspection team along
with a general view that it was evident there has been much positive change since
September.

I would like to thank those you that took the time to complete and return the Ofsted
questionnaire. Whilst the questionnaires are absolutely confidential the inspection
team did make known some of the general themes. We are very pleased that many
of you also recognise the positive change in the school since September.

I would like you to join me in thanking the Headteacher, Mr Cawley, the senior
leadership team and all of the staff and pupils at the school for the effort they put
into preparing for the inspection.

The governing body is very pleased to note that the inspectors have also
recognised the big difference that our new Headteacher has made to the school
since joining in September. We therefore would like to publicly thank Mr Cawley for
what has been achieved so far. We look forward to continuing to work with him, the
senior leadership team, staff and pupils as we build on what has been achieved so
far.

Finally, I also hope that you will continue to support and work with the school. We
all have a part to play in raising expectations, attainment, progress and to
achieving the vision for Deben High School and transforming learning in Felixstowe.

Kind regards,

Tim Brennan
Chair of Governors
