SALAM ON HE WHO EXPLAINED THE MYSTERIES

OF LIFE
Borrowing Mahirs words, let us pay obeisance to the noble soul whom Iqbal
describes as the knower of thoroughfares (of success), the last of messengers and the
master of all:

Salam on him who explained the mysteries of life.
It is a fact that no one has explained to
us our life from cradle to grave - or in other
words, our life from mothers lap to that Visit musarhad.blogspot.com
beneath the ground - in the manner the Holy for more articles on Islam.
Prophet ( ) has done for us. If
a person is able to comprehend the Holy
Prophets noble guidelines regarding our life, then you may be sure his life is set to
bloom and boom.
There are different states, spheres and aspects of human life. Keeping them in
view, we need to proceed and see briefly but comprehensively how the mysteries of
life are explained and made clear. First of all look at the baby who has just stepped out of
his mothers womb into the outside world. The explainer of the mysteries of life, Prophet
Muhammad ( ) tells us that there is no need to colour him in any hue (like
the Christians who have a custom of bathing the infant in coloured water of a particular
hue on the seventh day after the childs birth. They believe that this rite turns the child
into a Christian. This ritual is called baptism.). Instead, colour the child in Allahs hue
by bringing the reality of Faith inside him. Its external manifestation comes up in the rite
of saying Azaan in the babys right ear and Iqama in his left ear. Then give him some
name having good meaning. A name that denotes Allahs servantship (like Abdullah and
Abdur Rahman for boys, Amatullah and Amatur Rahman for girls) is highly preferable.
Perform Aqeeqa also as it will protect the baby from normal evils and calamities. For
boys do not miss Khatna too, as several benefits and advantages lay hidden in it. When
the baby begins to speak something, then first of all teach him Allahs name and the
kalima of La Ilaha Illa Allah Muhammadur Rasoolullah (There is no god but Allah and
Muhammad (( )) is Allahs last prophet.). Then memorize him the second
verse of Sura Al Furqan which beautifully sums up the complete creed of Tauheed
(Monotheism).

(Blessed is he) to whom belongs the dominion of the heaven and the earth. No son has He
begotten, nor has He a partner in His dominion. It is He who created all things, and
ordered them in due proportions. (Quran, 25:2)

When it is time for school education, then three kinds of education should not be
neglected: (1) one which generates love and devotion in him towards the Holy Prophet
() , (2) which familiarizes him with the glory of the Holy Prophets family,
the Holy Companions and the righteous men of all ages while introducing him to their
Deeni servicesin the historical perspective, and (3) instructions in the Holy Quran in its
broadest sense.Right from the beginning, inculcation of moral discipline should be given
due importance. And when the child reaches the age of 7, the care and vigilance should
intensify significantly. As far as education and guidance are concerned, the early age of
the child holds great importance, so neglecting them at this stage is like purchasing
disaster for him.

The prophet who explained the secrets of life has encouraged education and
schooling in every manner. In this matter, satisfying oneself on a few buds (of
knowledge) is not appreciable. Here we come to listen the heart-pleasing call of go on,
march ahead. One should also be prepared for journey to distant lands. We get the
inspiration to march to the worlds that lie beyond the stars. We are motivated to throw
up our ladder upon the Pleiades (Surayya) star cluster (the distant star clusters visible to
the naked eye). One can achieve excellence in any kind of arts and sciences, but without
forgetting Allah and ones own essence. However, there must be some scholars in every
Muslim population who have detailed knowledge of the Quran, the Hadith and the
religious and Deeni sciences so that the study of the acceptable and the unacceptable, the
lawful and the prohibited, the permissible and the forbidden, and the acts of Allahs
pleasure and His displeasure goes on with complete insight and dedication. Excellence
should be achieved in the various languages for the purposes of preaching and guidance.

In human life, economic independence is also necessary along with education.

The instructions that we get from the blessed explainer of the mysteries of life (
) make it clear that one should not be a hanger-on, dependent upon others for
economic needs. One should keep away from bearing the ignominy of begging. For
earning ones livelihood, no permissible profession should be treated with contempt.
Economic effort is also a part of persistent effort in Allahs path. Certainly, one should
desist from adopting unlawful and dishonest means of earning. Instead, the principle of
truth and honesty should be followed in business dealings. As we know that poverty and
destitution sometimes lead to Kufr (Unbelief), so we should be financially strong up to an
appreciable extent.

Once a suitable match is found, marriage should not be delayed whether the
young adult is a boy or a girl. The wedding ceremony should be simple and in accordance
with the Prophets Sunnah (Traditions) as per the noble Messengers declaration: the
most blessed and virtuous marriage ceremony is one that involves less expense. Both the
spouses should live with mutual tolerance and compassion, honouring each others
sentiments, feelings and dispositions which will ensure a happy matrimonial life. Family
relations should be pleasant. If somebody in the family wants to break off, then one
should try to get closer to him. Cordial relations should be maintained with all relations
keeping in view the differences in their status. One should always remember that the
Paradise lies beneath the mothers feet (i.e., in her service and obedience) and that the
3

father is the gateway of the Paradise. One should learn the rights of the children.
Recognising the rights of neighbours is a symbol of Faith. A person who eats a full meal
while his neighbour remains hungry can not be a (true) Believer. A person whose
neighbours are not safe from his mischief and troubles can also not be a (sincere)
Believer. Faith also that demands that a guest be treated with hospitality and a teacher
with due respect as it opens the doors of knowledge, and brings to his lot divine guidance
in plenty.

The Believer with the perfect faith is the one whose conduct is the best and whose
behaviour with his family-members is the best. One should make a habit to treat others
well when they are friendly and in case they are ill-behaved, then also one must not be
unjust to them. Friendship and enmity with a person should be for Allahs sake alone. A
person who supports another in spite of knowing that the latter is an oppressor, in a way,
he gets out of the boundaries of Islam. Backbiting, spying on one another, spreading
rumours, making baseless allegations, derision and ridicule: all these behaviours create
cracks in the wall of mutual relations. There is no faith in the person who is not
trustworthy. That person is faithless who is not true to his words. Modesty and
bashfulness are also organs of Faith. A Believer cannot be one who taunts or curses nor
can he be foulmouthed or impudent. He keeps others safe from the harms of his tongue
and hands. What to say of throwing garbage and placing obstacles on the road, he in fact
removes the inconvenience-causing objects from the path. Tale-bearing is not a habit of
his and his heart is devoid of any malice. Like a date-tree, the complete being of a
Believer benefits others. A true Believer is one whom no one fears regarding his life,
belongings and reputation. A true Faithful endures his sufferings with sabr (firmness) and
thanks Allah in happy times over His favours. He remains satisfied and uncomplaining in
times of difficulty and comfort, and in days of scarcity and plenty and keeps his bond
with Allah strong. When he receives Allahs favours, he does not become arrogant nor
does he get disappointed when he is deprived of some favours. He keeps away from self-
conceit and ill-will. He is not cruel in mutual dealings; instead he is compassionate and
forgiving. He prefers peace and truce over war. He finds the essence of life in
reconciliation and settlement of differences. He knows that the root and basis of unity and
harmony is modesty. Humility makes, while vanity spoils a work. Simplicity is an
important and valuable trait of man. Affectedness and mannerism disfigure the reality
and damage human personality.

The best human is the one who benefits others, knowing well that the purpose of
meeting the needs of a hungry, thirsty or sick person is to get closer to Allah. A person
who provides somebody with his requirements has Allah as supplier of his needs: in this
world as well as in the everlasting life. Lightening up a person in his smaller misfortune
leads to relief from Allah in ones own bigger calamities in this world and the Hereafter.
Taking care of widows, supporting orphans, assisting indigents, career counselling,
economic guidance and financial sponsorship are all good deeds which win the certificate
of Allahs Pleasure for the doer. One should always be honest in all his dealings as taking
recourse to fraud annoys Allah and deprives him of Divine help. Allahs mercy turns
away from a person who engages in financial cheatings. This brings about disgrace in this
world and ruin in the Hereafter. The money earned through taking interest, accepting
4

bribes and committing theft, robbery and deception are unlawful and forbidden. Sex
outside marriage and consuming alcohol or other intoxicants are to be strictly avoided.
Lapsing into these evils spoils ones wealth, ruins his health, destroys the emotional well-
being, and makes the Hell with all its horrors lie in wait for him.

The prophet who unravelled the mysteries of life also explained that neatness,
tidiness and cleanliness of the body and garments together make up half of the
(excellence of) faith. A sincere believer keeps his house, veranda, terrace and the entire
surroundings neat and tidy. In our age, hundreds of programs and schemes are being
employed to save the environment. However, the prophet who grasped the meaning of
life has already put forth various instructions in a number of ways to improve the
environment which are matchlessly effective. They can serve as a topic of research for a
research scholar. A tradition of the Holy Prophet ( ) elucidates that every
disease has a cure and that the Creator has created a remedy for all ills. That cure can be
found out through research and study which is the job of men of each and every age. The
Prophetic therapy is in itself a separate branch of learning which contains countless
intellectual and practical bases for medical treatment. A number of his teachings suggest
that the fountains of science and research should continue to run their springheads and
should never be allowed to dry up. Agriculture, business, gardening (horticulture),
irrigation, truthfulness and objectivity in mass media, light, saddle animals, animal-
breeding, constructions, art and craft, technology, military and combat skills in times of
need, scientific way of thinking, civil administration and so on: the one thing common in
all these disparate and unrelated subjects is that the Holy Prophet ( ) has
enlightened us with his guidance on all these matters at one instance or the other,
specifically or figuratively. The study of the Prophetic guidance on each of the above
subjects can serve as the vision-enhancing kohl which also bestows with prevision and
foresight. His noble quotes tell us that poetry is nothing less than magic in its effects and
that some verses contain words of wisdom and prudence. However the vases of literature
and poetry should not be fouled with the incorporation of atheistic, irrational or
unrealistic views and ideologies. A preacher and orator should be highly responsible,
realistic and judicious. Regarding an irresponsible and mischief-mongering public
speaker the Holy Prophet ( ) has a terrible warning that on the Day of
Judgement, his tongue and lips will be cut with scissors.

With the ardour and fervour of worship, one should energise his soul and build up
his Hereafter. The lord and the servant, the ruler and thee subject should completely carry
out their obligations so that the situation of one side complaining and the other going on
strike does not arise. The criterion for honour and privilege is piety, and not the lineage or
ancestry or family background. National, regional, linguistic, colour-based and racial
pride and haughtiness bring ruin and destruction to the country and the society. The
lessons of brotherhood and equality need to be propagated. For every occasion and event,
the Holy Prophet ( ) has given us some rules and etiquettes which if duly
observed bring comfort, blessings and harmony to our life. There are duas (litanies) for
the morning and the evening, the day and the night whose proper observance strengthen
mans relations with Allah and illuminate his good deeds. One should go to bed early in
the night so that he is able to get up at dawn and visit the Creators noble court before sun

rise and then begin his daily chores. Engaging in useless conversations at night and
chattering pointlessly in the day in effect puts to sleep ones fortune and subjects it to
Allahs wrath. Whatever be ones stage in life, he should spend it responsibly and
ambitiously. The prophet who unravelled the mysteries of life has set the daily routine for
a wise person thus: (1) he should communicate with Allah (through worship and deeds of
piety); (2) scrutinize himself and have a review of his acts; (3) contemplate over Allahs
creation; and (4) take out time for eating and drinking. The holy prophets instructions
also shed light on the extraordinary importance of time. Not a moment of it should be
wasted away.

The prophet who spelled out the mysteries of life says, My Lord has given me
ten commands: (1) to fear Allah in public and in solitude, (2) to say just and right words
in pleasure as well as in anger, (3) to be steadfast on the path of moderation in poverty as
well as in prosperity, (4) to associate with the person who dissociates himself, (5) to gift
him who deprives me, (6) to forgive him who oppresses me, (7) my silence should be the
silence for contemplation, (8) my speech should be the speech of Gods remembrance,
and (9) my vision should be the vision of realization.

Once the holy Prophets paternal cousin, son-in-law and fourth Caliph Hazrat Ali
( ) asked him how his life was. The glorious messenger replied: (1) knowledge
is my working capital, (2) intellect is the root of my faith, (3) love is my base, (4)
enthusiasm is my vehicle, (5) Allahs remembrance is my close friend, (6) faith in Allah
is my treasure, (7) the grief and sorrow of my heart is my companion, (8) learning is my
weapon, (9) forbearance (sabr) is my garment, (10) pleasure is my war-prize,
(11)humility is my pride, (12) asceticism is my profession, (13) belief is my diet, (14)
truth is my friend, (15) obedience is my honour and shield, (16) the holy Jihad is my
habit, and (17) my eyes find relief and coolness in Namaz.

Lastly, turn to a very important truth of life, the belief in which guarantees a
person success and triumph, grants success to his individual as well as social life, and
purges the society of all social and collective ills. This noble truth is the idea of life after
death. In his early preaching days, the Holy Prophet ( ) dewollof dah

Salam on him who explained the mysteries of life.
While returning home from his noble and blessed assembly, with the heart and
mind filled with sweet fragrance, on the way the eyes caught sight of the Prophets ardent

admirer and devotee Nawab Bahadur Yaar Jang addressing a function on the Life of the
holy Prophet in his inimitable style. During the speech when the Nawab recited his
couplet overflowing with love and devotion, it got into the depth of the heart through the
ears; and when the heart and the tongue got connected, the tongue went on repeating this
very couplet till the body reached home. It had a flavour which would not diminish and
an ecstasy which doubled on every recital:

,

O Pride of humanity, the knower of the mystery of the world,
Free of the need of the tablet and the pen, your learning is six-faceted.
