A Companion to the

YEA Life of Christ Series

Beginner Book Four
Now these are the commandments, the statutes, and the judgments, which the LORD your God
commanded to teach you, that ye might do them in the land whither ye go to possess it. . .
And thou shalt teach them diligently unto thy children, and shalt talk of them when thou sittest in thine
house, and when thou walkest by the way, and when thou liest down, and when thou riseth up
(Deuteronomy 6:1, 7).

What could be more important than teaching children the way of God and anchoring them to Jesus
Christ? As the Scripture above shows, once a week is not nearly enough. Youth Eucational Adventures
(YEA) offers an ongoing series of lesson books for five age groups between the ages of three and 20 to be
used at home or in Sabbath School. Each book has an easy-to-use Teachers Guide available to show you
step-by-step how to make each lesson come alive and reach the minds and hearts of those you teach. For
your child(ren) to benefit to the fullest, we recommend that you order these books to use along with the
daily activities that follow:

The purpose or objective of this daily outline for Beginners is:

To provide short activities which capitalize on young childrens limited attention span.
To use a phonics-based approach as an aid to comprehension and retention of the YEA lessons.
To make the current YEA curriculum more easily adaptable to the unique needs of:
1. Homeschooling parents who need a daily lesson/activity.
2. Parents who wish to extend or enrich the lesson on a daily basis.
Parents
3. Sabbath School Teachers who would benefit from a supplementary activity.

Suggested
Outline for
Daily Activities

Day One
One: Read the lesson in the YEA book. Introduce the memory verse to the child. Have the child
repeat the memory verse two times. Then read the Daily Devotional from a youth or modern translation of
the Bible.

Day T wo
Two
wo: Review the memory verse by saying it and having the child repeat it. Do this a couple of times.
Then show the child the letter for the lesson. Example: Say: This is a B. It says buh, B, B, baby. B, B, born,
B, B, Bethlehem. Go through all of the B words having the child repeat after you. Then read the Daily
Devotional.

Day Three
Three: Review the letter and the words, having the child repeat them after you. Review the memory
verse. Do the activity in the YEA Students book. Read the Daily Devotional.

Day FFour
our
our: Have the child color the bubble letter for the lessson (see pages 8-17). Review the memory
verse. Read the Daily Devotional.

Day FFive
ive
ive: Review the memory verse. Then read the sentence to the child. Help the child find and circle
the letter of the lesson in the sentence. Read the Daily Devotional.

Six: Review the memory verse. Sing the song from the lesson in the Kids Classics Collection. Read the
Day Six
Daily Devotional.

Phonics note:
note Add other words to the list as you think of them, but be careful to add words that truly
begin with the sound. For example, when doing the letter G, the words will be good, God, going, garden.
These all have the G sound. Do not add words that start with G but make the J sound such as giant.
Likewise, when doing the letter C, the words will be come, color, catch, coat. These all have the K sound.
Do not add words that start with C, but make the S sound. Most phonics curriculums introduce this idea a
little later. Mixing these beginning sounds can confuse a little one and sabotage the phonics work you are
doing.

Sentence note
note: The sentence for the beginners activity on Day 5 is to be read to the child. Many children
this age are non-readers. But they are beginning to acquire the ability to identify letters. The teacher or
parent should read the sentence and help the child find the letter in the sentence. The goal is letter
discrimination, not actual reading of the sentence.
