Course Learning Outcomes :


1. Demonstrate an understanding of developing listening and speaking skills in the primary ESL
classroom. (C3, P5, A3, PLO1)
2. Design materials (including remedial and enrichment) for teaching of listening and speaking
skills in the primary ESL classroom. (C6, P7, PLO2)
3. Plan a lesson including activities and methods of assessment based on the current
Malaysian English Language syllabus for primary schools (C6, PLO6,LL1)
4. Present a teaching of listening and speaking lesson in groups. (C6, A2, PLO4, PLO5, PLO8,
CS3, TS1, EM3)
5. Write a reflection on lessons to develop listening and speaking skills in the primary ESL
classroom. (C6, A2, PLO3, PLO6, CTPS5, LL2)
This coursework assesses learning outcomes 1, 2, 3, 4 and 5
Objectives of Coursework :
Students are able to carry out the following tasks:
1. Plan a lesson on teaching of listening or speaking skills including activities and methods of
assessment based on the current Malaysian English Language syllabus for a primary ESL
classroom (CLO1, CLO3)
2. Design teaching materials based on the lesson planned for teaching of listening and
speaking skills in the primary ESL classroom (CLO1, CLO2)
3. Present simulated teaching based on a lesson plan designed with appropriate skills
strategies and techniques. (CLO1, CLO4).
4. Write a reflection on the simulated teaching presented (CLO1, CLO5).

COURSEWORK
This project consists of four tasks. Students are required to complete all four tasks.
Task 1, 2 and 4 are individual work. Task 3 is group work.

TASK 1 : Lesson Planning

(Individual)

(30 marks)

Plan a 60-minute lesson to teach listening and speaking skills based on the current
Malaysian English Language syllabus (KSSR) for a primary ESL classroom.

The lesson plan should follow the format of the lesson plan used for KSSR.

The lesson plan should include activities and methods of assessment. Append the reference
list at the end of the lesson plan.

TASK 2 : Material Design

(Individual)

(30 marks)

Based on the lesson plan in Task 1, design appropriate teaching materials for the lesson.

The teaching materials should include materials for enrichment and remedial activities.

Include complete instructions on how to use the materials during the lesson.

TASK 3 : Simulated Teaching

(Group)

(20 marks)

In groups of 2 to 3 members, choose one of the lesson plans from Task 1 to conduct
simulated teaching of the lesson..

In your group, decide which stage of the lesson each person will teach. Each member is to
be included in the presentation.

The duration for the presentation is 30 minutes.

TASK 4 : Reflective Essay on Simulated Teaching (Individual)


(20 marks)
Write a reflection on the simulated teaching of listening and speaking skills in the primary
ESL classroom .

Conclude your strength and weaknesses and provide ways to improve your lesson.

The reflective essay should be about 400 words


Date due : 4 days after simulated teaching (Task 3)
Last date : 29.8.2016

1. References may include reference books, journals, magazines, newspapers and Internet
sources. However, any citation from Wikipedia is unacceptable.
2. Referencing procedures must follow the APA (American Psychological Association) style.
3. Plagiarism is strongly prohibited.
4. The coursework should adhere to the following format:

6. You should adhere to the deadline. Without an approved extension of time, late submission

Marking Criteria:
Tasks in the coursework will be marked using the marking criteria set for this coursework. This
coursework will be marked to a total of 100 marks and carries a weighting of 60% for the total
assessment of this course.
