About Tiruchirappalli
Tiruchirappalli also called Tiruchi or Trichy, is a city in the Indian state of Tamil Nadu. Known
for its historical monuments, the city is located on the banks of river Cauvery. The city is an
important manufacturing hub that houses BHEL, Cethar vessels and an Ordinance factory. It
is also considered a major road and railway hub in the state and is served by an international
airport.
PRIMARY SECTOR:
AGRICULTURE
Located in the centre of the state and also being close to the delta regions, the total
cultivable land in Tiruchirappalli district is around 194317 hectares contributing 1.59% to the
total cultivable area in the State of Tamil Nadu. To calculate DDP contribution from
Agricultural sector, we have gone by production method. Major cultivations in the district falls
under the following categories Cereals, Pulses, Oil seeds, Diary and Meats etc. Agricultural
sector contributed to 2% in overall State agricultural product.

FISHERIES:
For calculating the DDP from Fishery sector, we have taken the production approach as
we dont have the data for consumption. Fisheries can either be from Marine or Inland. As
Tiruchirappalli is surrounded by land in all sides, Marine production is Zero. Its Inland
fisheries lies around 0.10% of that of the state.

MANUFACTURING:
Trichy has very well renowned registered companies like BHEL, Cethar etc. and other
non-registered companies. Together these manufacturing facilities contribute for about
2.56% to that of the state.

CONSTRUCTION:
For calculating district domestic product in construction sub-sector, we have included
government expenditure on buildings plan sanctioned by corporation and construction
activity planned by Tamil Nadu Housing Board Corporation, Slum clearance board, Police
corporation etc. Apart from this, there had been raise in number of residential site
construction. Overall, the district of Tiruchirappalli, contributed 2.17% to the SGDPs
construction sector.

Tiruchirappalli is known for agriculture and manufacturing companies. They depend on
financial institutions for capital investment. The banking and finance sector of Tiruchirappalli
