a.

A RCC beam of rectangular section 300mm wide and overall depth of 850 mm is reinforced
with 4 bars of 25mm diameter on the tension side. Effective cover = 50mm. Find the
ultimate moment of resistance of the section, if fck = 20 N/mm2 and fy = 415 N/mm2 . Find
(10 Marks)
the additional reinforcement required to make this a balanced section.

b.

A rectangular RC beam is 300mmx700mm, overall in size with an effective cover of 50mm

both on tension and compression side. Compression steel area= 550 mm 2 and is stressed to
2
353 N/mm M20 grade concrete and Fe 415 steel are used. Calculate the steel area on the
tension side to make the section fully effective and total moment of resistance. Also
calcvlate total compression and total tension developed in the section.

a.

Distinguish between short term and long term deflection in case of RC structures. Mention
the main factors which affect these deflections.
(06 Marks)

b.

A simply supported beam of rectangular section 250x450mm overall depth is used over. an
effective span of 4m. The beam is reinforced with 3-20 mm~ at an effective depth of
400mm. Two-hanger bars of 1OOmm~ are provided. Dead load inclusive of
self wt. = 4 kN/m, service load= IO kN/m, using Fe-415 bars and M 20 grade concrete are
used. Compute i) The short-term deflection. ii) The long-term deflection as per IS 456-2000.

A tee beam slab floor of an office comprises of a slab 150mm thick spanning between ribs
spaced at 3 m c/c. The effective span of the beam is 8m. Live load on floor is 4 kN/m2 . Using
M-20 grade concrete and Fe 415 HYSD bars, design one of the intermediate beam.

5

Design a one way slab for an office floor which is continuous over tee beams spaced at 3.5m
intervals. Assume a live load of 4 kN/m2 and adopt M-20 grade concrete and Fe-415 steel.

a.

Design the reinforcements in a circular column of diameter 300 mm to support a service

axial load of 800 kN. A circular column 3 m high is effectively held in position but not
restrained against rotation at both ends. The column is reinforced with helical ties. Adopt
M-20 grade concrete and Fe-415 bars. Check for slenderness of column and minimum

eccentricity.

b.

Design the reinforcements in a short column 400 x400mm at the corners of a multistoreyed
building to support an axial factored load of 1500 kN, together with biaxial moments of
50kN-m acting in perpendicular planes. Adopt M-20 grade concrete and Fe-415 HYSD bars.
(10 Marks)

Design a reinforced concrete footing for a rectangular column of section 300mmx500mm

supporting an axial factored load of 1500 kN. The SBC of the soil is 185 kN/m2 . Adopt M-20
grade concrete and Fe-415 HYSD bars.
(20 Marks)

Design one of the flight of a dog-legged stairs spannmg between landing beams using the
following data:
No. of steps in the flight= 10
Thread = T = 300 mm, Rise = R = 150mm.
Width of landing beams = 300 mm
Using M20 grade concrete and Fe-415 bars.
