Design calculation for the pavement thickness should


be submitted
Bitumen road shall be designed using road Note 29 or
31 base on the necessary Standard Axles. CBR value
for subgrade can vary according to soil condition and
minimum of 10% while CBR value for sub-base and
road base must be minimum 30% and 80% respectively
and to be stated on plan.
Road base/ sub-base/ premix thickness should comform
to the designed thickness.
Minimum width for road carriageway should be:
A. 6.1m (20 feet) for 12.2m (40ft) road reserve
B. 6.7m (22 feet) for 15.2m (50ft)road reserve
C. 7.3m (24 feet) for 20m (66ft) road reserve
All turning radius must not be less than 6.1m (20ft) for
secondary road, 9.1m (30ft) for primary road and
15.2m (50ft) for major trunk road.
The whole road surface for commercial area must be
sealed except the public utility reserve/space (eg.
Walkway, pedestrian mall etc.)
The road surface camber should not be less than 1:33
(3%)
Road shoulder must be covered with close turfing to
prevent soil erosion
Road kerb must be constructed at both sides of the
road
All precast kerb must be Grade 20 (1:2:4 mixed)
concrete and not more than 915mm (3 feet length)
The kerb must be placed on 100mm (4) thick Grade
20(1:2:4 mixed) concrete base and the joint sealed with
1:3 cement mortar.
The height of kerb measuring from the finished road
surface should be at least 200mm (8) for shop &
industrial and 150mm (6) for residential development.
Road surface water to be discharged through the kerb
via 150mm dia.upvc pipe spaced at 3m from centre to
centre
All traffic sign board and road marking must comply to

DRAIN

Design calculation to justify the sizes of the drains to be


submitted
Structural calculations for the various types of drain
and culvert to be submitted
While works is going on, developer must ensure no
blockage to existing drain/ water course by regular
maintenance to ensure good and smooth flow of water
at all time
Concrete must have a minimum thickness of 100mm
(4) and reinforced with BRC or high tensile bars
Lean concrete of Grade 15 (1:3:6 mix) to be laid below
the drain as base [minimum thickness= 50mm (2)]
Rubbish trap to be installed at the lower end of the
drain before entering the drain sump or culvert. Details
to be submitted for checking
Heavy duty m.s. grating to be installed at all the drain
sumps for safety purpose especially next to the
pedestrian walkway
All pre-cast drain slab/ concrete blocks to be jointed
using cement mortar in good condition to prevent
leakage
All iron grille drain covers must have hinges with m.s.
frame permanently fixed to the concrete. Details to be
submitted
All culverts must have a minimum internal diameter of
600mm (24 inches)
Culvert base shall be constructed using Grade 20 (1:2:4
mixed) concrete reinforced with BRC A8 or HT steel bar
To protect both ends of the culvert with concrete wing
walls rising at least 150mm (6) from the ground
surface
To obtain letter of approval from JPS on the MSMA
Design for the drainage system
All concrete driveway leading to buildings must be
provided with removable iron grille cover of minimum
610mm x 760mm (2 x 26) at 1.52m (50) intervals
above the drain for easy maintenance in future
All culvert must be provided with opening of min.
610mm x 760mm (2 x 36) covered with heavy duty
iron grille constructed with hinges of m.s. frame
permanently fixed to concrete directly above the

drain for easy maintenance in future
The minimum gradient of r.c concrete drain should be

For manhole with depth between 760mm (26)
and 1220mm (40), the minimum brick wall
thickness shall be 225mm (9)
All manhole over 1220mm (40) depth must be
constructed using 150mm (6) thick Grade 25

For manhole exceeding 1.2m (40) depth, its
