OBU RAP Topic 18

An assessment of an organizations corporate social responsibility policies, including business ethics, and
their impact on business practice and key stakeholders.
This topic is focus on the evaluation of an organizations corporate social responsibility policies and business
ethics. To effectively do this, you are require to find out the impact of these policies on an entitys business
practice and key stakeholders.
Corporate social responsibility (CSR); known by others as corporate conscience, corporate citizenship or
responsible business is a form of corporate self-regulation integrated into a business model. CSR policies
functions as a self-regulatory mechanism whereby a business monitors and ensures its active compliance with
the spirit of the law, ethical standards and national or international norms. With some writers, a firm's
implementation of CSR goes beyond compliance. CSR aims to embrace responsibility for corporate actions and
to encourage a positive impact on the environment and stakeholders including consumers, employees,
investors, communities, and others.
Business ethics is the part of applied ethics that examines ethical principles and moral or ethical problems that
can arise in a business environment. ISO 26000 is the recognized international standard for CSR. Public sector
organizations (the United Nations for example) adhere to the triple bottom line (TBL). It is widely accepted
that CSR adheres to similar principles, but with no formal act of legislation.
During your research on this topic, you have to critically assess an organizations corporate social responsibility
policies, together with its business ethics; and how this impact on business practice in general and specifically
on the entitys stakeholders.
Key features / requirements:
Show an understanding of the concept of CSR and business ethics specifically to your case study and
how analysts view it in generally.
Evaluate the impact of CSR and business ethics on your case study business (qualitative analysis) and
financial (quantitative analysis) performance. (Are customers boycotting the products of your case
study because of poor business practices, is it paying penalties and fines?).
Evaluate the impact of CSR and business ethics on your case study key stakeholders (are customers,
employees, suppliers, regulators, competitors, the society in which the entity operate etc. happy?).
Compare and contrast your case study CSR and business ethics practices with those of similar
organizations.
Availability of Information:
You have to complete your RAP based on the provision of information directly from management of the
organization (i.e. primary sources) along with vast information available through dierent mediums (internet,
newspaper, books, etc.) under secondary sources of information. Availability of information from internal
and external (independent for the case study) sources under topic number 20 is very essential.
Choose this topic only if you have access to a wide range of internal and external information about your case
studys CSR and business ethics practices.
