Colombia: Light at End of the Tunnel?

Introduction
Read the premium report: Colombia: Light at End of the Tunnel?
If one country deserves a noble peace, Colombia does.
From the mid-1960s, the country has been afflicted with an internecine
war led mainly by the leftist FARC (in its Spanish initials) rebel army.
Their fellow ELN also wage war against Bogota.
On the right, the AUC and paramilitaries also maim and rampage in the
armed conflict which has raged over 5o years in Colombia the oldest
civil war in Latin America.
In October 2016, after four years of negotiations in Havana, Cuba,
Colombian President Manuel Santos and FARC chief Timolen
Timochenko Jimnez signed a peace agreement to end hostilities
between the central government and the main leftist antagonist. The
FARC would then be reintegrated into Colombian society.
Can Colombia exit war and despair?

In a plebiscite on October 2, the Colombian people narrowly rejected the

first version of the agreement.
The political class in Bogota was aghast by the decision rendered by the public.
President Manuel Santos wagered his small amount of political capital to secure his legacy as the leader who ended
the FARC insurgency and brought peace to the average Colombian.
