Creation Story; Fall of Man

Genesis 1
1
In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth.
2
And the earth was without form, and void; and darkness was upon the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God moved
upon the face of the waters.
3
And God said, Let there be light: and there was light.
4
And God saw the light, that it was good: and God divided the light from the darkness.
5
And God called the light Day, and the darkness he called Night. And the evening and the morning were the first day.
6
And God said, Let there be a firmament in the midst of the waters, and let it divide the waters from the waters.
7
And God made the firmament, and divided the waters which were under the firmament from the waters
which were above the firmament: and it was so.
8
And God called the firmament Heaven. And the evening and the morning were the second day.
9
And God said, Let the waters under the heaven be gathered together unto one place, and let the dryland appear: and it
was so.
10
And God called the dry land Earth; and the gathering together of the waters called he Seas: and God saw that it
was good.
11
And God said, Let the earth bring forth grass, the herb yielding seed, and the fruit tree yielding fruit after his kind,
whose seed is in itself, upon the earth: and it was so.
12
And the earth brought forth grass, and herb yielding seed after his kind, and the tree yielding fruit, whose seed was in
itself, after his kind: and God saw that it was good.
13
And the evening and the morning were the third day.
14
And God said, Let there be lights in the firmament of the heaven to divide the day from the night; and let them be for
signs, and for seasons, and for days, and years:
15
And let them be for lights in the firmament of the heaven to give light upon the earth: and it was so.
16
And God made two great lights; the greater light to rule the day, and the lesser light to rule the night: he made the stars
also.
17
And God set them in the firmament of the heaven to give light upon the earth,
18
And to rule over the day and over the night, and to divide the light from the darkness: and God saw that it was good.
19
And the evening and the morning were the fourth day.
20
And God said, Let the waters bring forth abundantly the moving creature that hath life, and fowl that may fly above the
earth in the open firmament of heaven.
21
And God created great whales, and every living creature that moveth, which the waters brought forth abundantly, after
their kind, and every winged fowl after his kind: and God saw that it was good.
22
And God blessed them, saying, Be fruitful, and multiply, and fill the waters in the seas, and let fowl multiply in the
earth.
23
And the evening and the morning were the fifth day.
24
And God said, Let the earth bring forth the living creature after his kind, cattle, and creeping thing, and beast of the
earth after his kind: and it was so.
25
And God made the beast of the earth after his kind, and cattle after their kind, and every thing that creepeth upon the
earth after his kind: and God saw that it was good.
26
And God said, Let us make man in our image, after our likeness: and let them have dominion over the fish of the sea,
and over the fowl of the air, and over the cattle, and over all the earth, and over every creeping thing that creepeth
upon the earth.
27
So God created man in his own image, in the image of God created he him; male and female created he them.
28
And God blessed them, and God said unto them, Be fruitful, and multiply, and replenish the earth, and subdue it: and
have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over every living thing that moveth upon the
earth.
29
And God said, Behold, I have given you every herb bearing seed, which is upon the face of all the earth, and every tree,
in the which isthe fruit of a tree yielding seed; to you it shall be for meat.
30
And to every beast of the earth, and to every fowl of the air, and to every thing that creepeth upon the earth,
wherein there is life, I have given every green herb for meat: and it was so.
31
And God saw every thing that he had made, and, behold, it was very good. And the evening and the morning were the
sixth day.
Genesis 2
1
Thus the heavens and the earth were finished, and all the host of them.
2
And on the seventh day God ended his work which he had made; and he rested on the seventh day from all his work
which he had made.
3
And God blessed the seventh day, and sanctified it: because that in it he had rested from all his work which God created
and made.
4
These are the generations of the heavens and of the earth when they were created, in the day that the LORD God made
the earth and the heavens,
5
And every plant of the field before it was in the earth, and every herb of the field before it grew: for the LORD God had
not caused it to rain upon the earth, and there was not a man to till the ground.
6
But there went up a mist from the earth, and watered the whole face of the ground.
7
And the LORD God formed man of the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man
became a living soul.
8
And the LORD God planted a garden eastward in Eden; and there he put the man whom he had formed.
9
And out of the ground made the LORD God to grow every tree that is pleasant to the sight, and good for food; the tree
of life also in the midst of the garden, and the tree of knowledge of good and evil.
10
And a river went out of Eden to water the garden; and from thence it was parted, and became into four heads.
11
 The name of the first is Pison: that is it which compasseth the whole land of Havilah, where there is gold;
12
And the gold of that land is good: there is bdellium and the onyx stone.
13
And the name of the second river is Gihon: the same is it that compasseth the whole land of Ethiopia.
14
And the name of the third river is Hiddekel: that is it which goeth toward the east of Assyria. And the fourth
river is Euphrates.
15
And the LORD God took the man, and put him into the garden of Eden to dress it and to keep it.
16
And the LORD God commanded the man, saying, Of every tree of the garden thou mayest freely eat:
17
But of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, thou shalt not eat of it: for in the day that thou eatest thereof thou
shalt surely die.
18
And the LORD God said, It is not good that the man should be alone; I will make him an help meet for him.
19
And out of the ground the LORD God formed every beast of the field, and every fowl of the air; and brought them unto
Adam to see what he would call them: and whatsoever Adam called every living creature, that was the name thereof.
20
And Adam gave names to all cattle, and to the fowl of the air, and to every beast of the field; but for Adam there was
not found an help meet for him.
21
And the LORD God caused a deep sleep to fall upon Adam, and he slept: and he took one of his ribs, and closed up the
flesh instead thereof;
22
And the rib, which the LORD God had taken from man, made he a woman, and brought her unto the man.
23
And Adam said, This is now bone of my bones, and flesh of my flesh: she shall be called Woman, because she was
taken out of Man.
24
Therefore shall a man leave his father and his mother, and shall cleave unto his wife: and they shall be one flesh.
25
And they were both naked, the man and his wife, and were not ashamed.
Genesis 3
1
Now the serpent was more subtil than any beast of the field which the LORD God had made. And he said unto the
woman, Yea, hath God said, Ye shall not eat of every tree of the garden?
2
And the woman said unto the serpent, We may eat of the fruit of the trees of the garden:
3
But of the fruit of the tree which is in the midst of the garden, God hath said, Ye shall not eat of it, neither shall ye touch
it, lest ye die.
4
And the serpent said unto the woman, Ye shall not surely die:
5
For God doth know that in the day ye eat thereof, then your eyes shall be opened, and ye shall be as gods, knowing good
and evil.
6
And when the woman saw that the tree was good for food, and that it was pleasant to the eyes, and a tree to be desired to
make one wise, she took of the fruit thereof, and did eat, and gave also unto her husband with her; and he did eat.
7
And the eyes of them both were opened, and they knew that they were naked; and they sewed fig leaves together, and
made themselves aprons.
8
And they heard the voice of the LORD God walking in the garden in the cool of the day: and Adam and his wife hid
themselves from the presence of the LORD God amongst the trees of the garden.
9
And the LORD God called unto Adam, and said unto him, Where art thou?
10
And he said, I heard thy voice in the garden, and I was afraid, because I was naked; and I hid myself.
11
And he said, Who told thee that thou wast naked? Hast thou eaten of the tree, whereof I commanded thee that thou
shouldest not eat?
12
And the man said, The woman whom thou gavest to be with me, she gave me of the tree, and I did eat.
13
And the LORD God said unto the woman, What is this that thou hast done? And the woman said, The serpent beguiled
me, and I did eat.
14
And the LORD God said unto the serpent, Because thou hast done this, thou art cursed above all cattle, and above
every beast of the field; upon thy belly shalt thou go, and dust shalt thou eat all the days of thy life:
15
And I will put enmity between thee and the woman, and between thy seed and her seed; it shall bruise thy head, and
thou shalt bruise his heel.
16
Unto the woman he said, I will greatly multiply thy sorrow and thy conception; in sorrow thou shalt bring forth
children; and thy desireshall be to thy husband, and he shall rule over thee.
17
And unto Adam he said, Because thou hast hearkened unto the voice of thy wife, and hast eaten of the tree, of which I
commanded thee, saying, Thou shalt not eat of it: cursed is the ground for thy sake; in sorrow shalt thou eat of it all the
days of thy life;
18
 Thorns also and thistles shall it bring forth to thee; and thou shalt eat the herb of the field;
19
In the sweat of thy face shalt thou eat bread, till thou return unto the ground; for out of it wast thou taken: for dust
thou art, and unto dust shalt thou return.
20
And Adam called his wife's name Eve; because she was the mother of all living.
21
Unto Adam also and to his wife did the LORD God make coats of skins, and clothed them.
22
And the LORD God said, Behold, the man is become as one of us, to know good and evil: and now, lest he put forth his
hand, and take also of the tree of life, and eat, and live for ever:
23
Therefore the LORD God sent him forth from the garden of Eden, to till the ground from whence he was taken.
24
So he drove out the man; and he placed at the east of the garden of Eden Cherubims, and a flaming sword which turned
every way, to keep the way of the tree of life.
Cain and Abel
Genesis 4:1-16
1
And Adam knew Eve his wife; and she conceived, and bare Cain, and said, I have gotten a man from the LORD.
2
And she again bare his brother Abel. And Abel was a keeper of sheep, but Cain was a tiller of the ground.
3
And in process of time it came to pass, that Cain brought of the fruit of the ground an offering unto the LORD.
4
And Abel, he also brought of the firstlings of his flock and of the fat thereof. And the LORD had respect unto Abel and
to his offering:
5
But unto Cain and to his offering he had not respect. And Cain was very wroth, and his countenance fell.
6
And the LORD said unto Cain, Why art thou wroth? and why is thy countenance fallen?
7
If thou doest well, shalt thou not be accepted? and if thou doest not well, sin lieth at the door. And unto thee shall be his
desire, and thou shalt rule over him.
8
And Cain talked with Abel his brother: and it came to pass, when they were in the field, that Cain rose up against Abel
his brother, and slew him.
9
And the LORD said unto Cain, Where is Abel thy brother? And he said, I know not: Am I my brother's keeper?
10
And he said, What hast thou done? the voice of thy brother's blood crieth unto me from the ground.
11
 And now art thou cursed from the earth, which hath opened her mouth to receive thy brother's blood from thy hand;
12
When thou tillest the ground, it shall not henceforth yield unto thee her strength; a fugitive and a vagabond shalt thou be
in the earth.
13
And Cain said unto the LORD, My punishment is greater than I can bear.
14
Behold, thou hast driven me out this day from the face of the earth; and from thy face shall I be hid; and I shall be a
fugitive and a vagabond in the earth; and it shall come to pass, that every one that findeth me shall slay me.
15
And the LORD said unto him, Therefore whosoever slayeth Cain, vengeance shall be taken on him sevenfold. And the
LORD set a mark upon Cain, lest any finding him should kill him.
16
And Cain went out from the presence of the LORD, and dwelt in the land of Nod, on the east of Eden.
The Flood
Genesis 6:9-22
9
These are the generations of Noah: Noah was a just man and perfect in his generations, and Noah walked with God.
10
And Noah begat three sons, Shem, Ham, and Japheth.
11
The earth also was corrupt before God, and the earth was filled with violence.
12
And God looked upon the earth, and, behold, it was corrupt; for all flesh had corrupted his way upon the earth.
13
And God said unto Noah, The end of all flesh is come before me; for the earth is filled with violence through them; and,
behold, I will destroy them with the earth.
14
Make thee an ark of gopher wood; rooms shalt thou make in the ark, and shalt pitch it within and without with pitch.
15
And this is the fashion which thou shalt make it of: The length of the ark shall be three hundred cubits, the breadth of it
fifty cubits, and the height of it thirty cubits.
16
A window shalt thou make to the ark, and in a cubit shalt thou finish it above; and the door of the ark shalt thou set in
the side thereof; with lower, second, and third stories shalt thou make it.
17
And, behold, I, even I, do bring a flood of waters upon the earth, to destroy all flesh, wherein is the breath of life, from
under heaven;and every thing that is in the earth shall die.
18
But with thee will I establish my covenant; and thou shalt come into the ark, thou, and thy sons, and thy wife, and thy
sons' wives with thee.
19
And of every living thing of all flesh, two of every sort shalt thou bring into the ark, to keep them alive with thee; they
shall be male and female.
20
Of fowls after their kind, and of cattle after their kind, of every creeping thing of the earth after his kind, two of
every sort shall come unto thee, to keep them alive.
21
And take thou unto thee of all food that is eaten, and thou shalt gather it to thee; and it shall be for food for thee, and for
them.
22
Thus did Noah; according to all that God commanded him, so did he.
Whoever Sheds Blood
Genesis 9
1
And God blessed Noah and his sons, and said unto them, Be fruitful, and multiply, and replenish the earth.
2
And the fear of you and the dread of you shall be upon every beast of the earth, and upon every fowl of the air, upon all
that moveth upon the earth, and upon all the fishes of the sea; into your hand are they delivered.
3
Every moving thing that liveth shall be meat for you; even as the green herb have I given you all things.
4
But flesh with the life thereof, which is the blood thereof, shall ye not eat.
5
And surely your blood of your lives will I require; at the hand of every beast will I require it, and at the hand of man; at
the hand of every man's brother will I require the life of man.
6
Whoso sheddeth man's blood, by man shall his blood be shed: for in the image of God made he man.
7
And you, be ye fruitful, and multiply; bring forth abundantly in the earth, and multiply therein.
8
And God spake unto Noah, and to his sons with him, saying,
9
 And I, behold, I establish my covenant with you, and with your seed after you;
10
And with every living creature that is with you, of the fowl, of the cattle, and of every beast of the earth with you; from
all that go out of the ark, to every beast of the earth.
11
And I will establish my covenant with you; neither shall all flesh be cut off any more by the waters of a flood; neither
shall there any more be a flood to destroy the earth.
12
And God said, This is the token of the covenant which I make between me and you and every living creature
that is with you, for perpetual generations:
13
I do set my bow in the cloud, and it shall be for a token of a covenant between me and the earth.
14
And it shall come to pass, when I bring a cloud over the earth, that the bow shall be seen in the cloud:
15
And I will remember my covenant, which is between me and you and every living creature of all flesh; and the waters
shall no more become a flood to destroy all flesh.
16
And the bow shall be in the cloud; and I will look upon it, that I may remember the everlasting covenant between God
and every living creature of all flesh that is upon the earth.
17
And God said unto Noah, This is the token of the covenant, which I have established between me and all flesh
that is upon the earth.
18
And the sons of Noah, that went forth of the ark, were Shem, and Ham, and Japheth: and Ham is the father of Canaan.
19
These are the three sons of Noah: and of them was the whole earth overspread.
20
And Noah began to be an husbandman, and he planted a vineyard:
21
And he drank of the wine, and was drunken; and he was uncovered within his tent.
22
And Ham, the father of Canaan, saw the nakedness of his father, and told his two brethren without.
23
And Shem and Japheth took a garment, and laid it upon both their shoulders, and went backward, and covered the
nakedness of their father; and their faces were backward, and they saw not their father's nakedness.
24
And Noah awoke from his wine, and knew what his younger son had done unto him.
25
And he said, Cursed be Canaan; a servant of servants shall he be unto his brethren.
26
And he said, Blessed be the LORD God of Shem; and Canaan shall be his servant.
27
God shall enlarge Japheth, and he shall dwell in the tents of Shem; and Canaan shall be his servant.
28
And Noah lived after the flood three hundred and fifty years.
29
And all the days of Noah were nine hundred and fifty years: and he died.
Golden Calf
Exodus 32
1
And when the people saw that Moses delayed to come down out of the mount, the people gathered themselves together
unto Aaron, and said unto him, Up, make us gods, which shall go before us; foras for this Moses, the man that brought
us up out of the land of Egypt, we wot not what is become of him.
2
And Aaron said unto them, Break off the golden earrings, which are in the ears of your wives, of your sons, and of your
daughters, and bring them unto me.
3
And all the people brake off the golden earrings which were in their ears, and brought them unto Aaron.
4
And he received them at their hand, and fashioned it with a graving tool, after he had made it a molten calf: and they
said, These be thy gods, O Israel, which brought thee up out of the land of Egypt.
5
And when Aaron saw it, he built an altar before it; and Aaron made proclamation, and said, To morrow is a feast to the
LORD.
6
And they rose up early on the morrow, and offered burnt offerings, and brought peace offerings; and the people sat
down to eat and to drink, and rose up to play.
7
And the LORD said unto Moses, Go, get thee down; for thy people, which thou broughtest out of the land of Egypt,
have corrupted themselves:
8
They have turned aside quickly out of the way which I commanded them: they have made them a molten calf, and have
worshipped it, and have sacrificed thereunto, and said, These be thy gods, O Israel, which have brought thee up out of
the land of Egypt.
9
And the LORD said unto Moses, I have seen this people, and, behold, it is a stiffnecked people:
10
Now therefore let me alone, that my wrath may wax hot against them, and that I may consume them: and I will make of
thee a great nation.
11
And Moses besought the LORD his God, and said, LORD, why doth thy wrath wax hot against thy people, which thou
hast brought forth out of the land of Egypt with great power, and with a mighty hand?
12
Wherefore should the Egyptians speak, and say, For mischief did he bring them out, to slay them in the mountains, and
to consume them from the face of the earth? Turn from thy fierce wrath, and repent of this evil against thy people.
13
Remember Abraham, Isaac, and Israel, thy servants, to whom thou swarest by thine own self, and saidst unto them, I
will multiply your seed as the stars of heaven, and all this land that I have spoken of will I give unto your seed, and
they shall inherit it for ever.
14
And the LORD repented of the evil which he thought to do unto his people.
15
And Moses turned, and went down from the mount, and the two tables of the testimony were in his hand: the
tables were written on both their sides; on the one side and on the other were they written.
16
And the tables were the work of God, and the writing was the writing of God, graven upon the tables.
17
And when Joshua heard the noise of the people as they shouted, he said unto Moses, There is a noise of war in the
camp.
18
And he said, It is not the voice of them that shout for mastery, neither is it the voice of them that cry for being
overcome: but the noise of them that sing do I hear.
19
And it came to pass, as soon as he came nigh unto the camp, that he saw the calf, and the dancing: and Moses' anger
waxed hot, and he cast the tables out of his hands, and brake them beneath the mount.
20
And he took the calf which they had made, and burnt it in the fire, and ground it to powder, and strawed it upon the
water, and made the children of Israel drink of it.
21
And Moses said unto Aaron, What did this people unto thee, that thou hast brought so great a sin upon them?
22
And Aaron said, Let not the anger of my lord wax hot: thou knowest the people, that they are set on mischief.
23
For they said unto me, Make us gods, which shall go before us: for as for this Moses, the man that brought us up out of
the land of Egypt, we wot not what is become of him.
24
And I said unto them, Whosoever hath any gold, let them break it off. So they gave it me: then I cast it into the fire, and
there came out this calf.
25
And when Moses saw that the people were naked; (for Aaron had made them naked unto their shame among their
enemies:)
26
Then Moses stood in the gate of the camp, and said, Who is on the LORD'S side? let him come unto me. And all the
sons of Levi gathered themselves together unto him.
27
And he said unto them, Thus saith the LORD God of Israel, Put every man his sword by his side, and go in and out
from gate to gate throughout the camp, and slay every man his brother, and every man his companion, and every man
his neighbour.
28
And the children of Levi did according to the word of Moses: and there fell of the people that day about three thousand
men.
29
 For Moses had said, Consecrate yourselves to day to the LORD, even every man upon his son, and upon his brother;
that he may bestow upon you a blessing this day.
30
And it came to pass on the morrow, that Moses said unto the people, Ye have sinned a great sin: and now I will go up
unto the LORD; peradventure I shall make an atonement for your sin.
31
And Moses returned unto the LORD, and said, Oh, this people have sinned a great sin, and have made them gods of
gold.
32
Yet now, if thou wilt forgive their sin--; and if not, blot me, I pray thee, out of thy book which thou hast written.
33
And the LORD said unto Moses, Whosoever hath sinned against me, him will I blot out of my book.
34
Therefore now go, lead the people unto the place of which I have spoken unto thee: behold, mine Angel shall go before
thee: nevertheless in the day when I visit I will visit their sin upon them.
35
And the LORD plagued the people, because they made the calf, which Aaron made.
Jephthah's Oath
Judges 11
1
Now Jephthah the Gileadite was a mighty man of valour, and he was the son of an harlot: and Gilead begat Jephthah.
2
And Gilead's wife bare him sons; and his wife's sons grew up, and they thrust out Jephthah, and said unto him, Thou
shalt not inherit in our father's house; for thou art the son of a strange woman.
3
Then Jephthah fled from his brethren, and dwelt in the land of Tob: and there were gathered vain men to Jephthah, and
went out with him.
4
And it came to pass in process of time, that the children of Ammon made war against Israel.
5
And it was so, that when the children of Ammon made war against Israel, the elders of Gilead went to fetch Jephthah out
of the land of Tob:
6
And they said unto Jephthah, Come, and be our captain, that we may fight with the children of Ammon.
7
And Jephthah said unto the elders of Gilead, Did not ye hate me, and expel me out of my father's house? and why are ye
come unto me now when ye are in distress?
8
And the elders of Gilead said unto Jephthah, Therefore we turn again to thee now, that thou mayest go with us, and fight
against the children of Ammon, and be our head over all the inhabitants of Gilead.
9
And Jephthah said unto the elders of Gilead, If ye bring me home again to fight against the children of Ammon, and the
LORD deliver them before me, shall I be your head?
10
And the elders of Gilead said unto Jephthah, The LORD be witness between us, if we do not so according to thy words.
11
Then Jephthah went with the elders of Gilead, and the people made him head and captain over them: and Jephthah
uttered all his words before the LORD in Mizpeh.
12
And Jephthah sent messengers unto the king of the children of Ammon, saying, What hast thou to do with me, that thou
art come against me to fight in my land?
13
And the king of the children of Ammon answered unto the messengers of Jephthah, Because Israel took away my land,
when they came up out of Egypt, from Arnon even unto Jabbok, and unto Jordan: now therefore restore
those lands again peaceably.
14
And Jephthah sent messengers again unto the king of the children of Ammon:
15
And said unto him, Thus saith Jephthah, Israel took not away the land of Moab, nor the land of the children of Ammon:
16
 But when Israel came up from Egypt, and walked through the wilderness unto the Red sea, and came to Kadesh;
17
Then Israel sent messengers unto the king of Edom, saying, Let me, I pray thee, pass through thy land: but the king of
Edom would not hearken thereto. And in like manner they sent unto the king of Moab: but he would not consent: and
Israel abode in Kadesh.
18
Then they went along through the wilderness, and compassed the land of Edom, and the land of Moab, and came by the
east side of the land of Moab, and pitched on the other side of Arnon, but came not within the border of Moab: for
Arnon was the border of Moab.
19
And Israel sent messengers unto Sihon king of the Amorites, the king of Heshbon; and Israel said unto him, Let us pass,
we pray thee, through thy land into my place.
20
But Sihon trusted not Israel to pass through his coast: but Sihon gathered all his people together, and pitched in Jahaz,
and fought against Israel.
21
And the LORD God of Israel delivered Sihon and all his people into the hand of Israel, and they smote them: so Israel
possessed all the land of the Amorites, the inhabitants of that country.
22
And they possessed all the coasts of the Amorites, from Arnon even unto Jabbok, and from the wilderness even unto
Jordan.
23
So now the LORD God of Israel hath dispossessed the Amorites from before his people Israel, and shouldest thou
possess it?
24
Wilt not thou possess that which Chemosh thy god giveth thee to possess? So whomsoever the LORD our God shall
drive out from before us, them will we possess.
25
And now art thou any thing better than Balak the son of Zippor, king of Moab? did he ever strive against Israel, or did
he ever fight against them,
26
While Israel dwelt in Heshbon and her towns, and in Aroer and her towns, and in all the cities that be along by the
coasts of Arnon, three hundred years? why therefore did ye not recover them within that time?
27
Wherefore I have not sinned against thee, but thou doest me wrong to war against me: the LORD the Judge be judge
this day between the children of Israel and the children of Ammon.
28
Howbeit the king of the children of Ammon hearkened not unto the words of Jephthah which he sent him.
29
Then the Spirit of the LORD came upon Jephthah, and he passed over Gilead, and Manasseh, and passed over Mizpeh
of Gilead, and from Mizpeh of Gilead he passed over unto the children of Ammon.
30
And Jephthah vowed a vow unto the LORD, and said, If thou shalt without fail deliver the children of Ammon into
mine hands,
31
Then it shall be, that whatsoever cometh forth of the doors of my house to meet me, when I return in peace from the
children of Ammon, shall surely be the LORD'S, and I will offer it up for a burnt offering.
32
So Jephthah passed over unto the children of Ammon to fight against them; and the LORD delivered them into his
hands.
33
And he smote them from Aroer, even till thou come to Minnith, even twenty cities, and unto the plain of the vineyards,
with a very great slaughter. Thus the children of Ammon were subdued before the children of Israel.
34
And Jephthah came to Mizpeh unto his house, and, behold, his daughter came out to meet him with timbrels and with
dances: and shewas his only child; beside her he had neither son nor daughter.
35
And it came to pass, when he saw her, that he rent his clothes, and said, Alas, my daughter! thou hast brought me very
low, and thou art one of them that trouble me: for I have opened my mouth unto the LORD, and I cannot go back.
36
And she said unto him, My father, if thou hast opened thy mouth unto the LORD, do to me according to that which hath
proceeded out of thy mouth; forasmuch as the LORD hath taken vengeance for thee of thine enemies, even of the
children of Ammon.
37
And she said unto her father, Let this thing be done for me: let me alone two months, that I may go up and down upon
the mountains, and bewail my virginity, I and my fellows.
38
And he said, Go. And he sent her away for two months: and she went with her companions, and bewailed her virginity
upon the mountains.
39
And it came to pass at the end of two months, that she returned unto her father, who did with her according to his vow
which he had vowed: and she knew no man. And it was a custom in Israel,
40
That the daughters of Israel went yearly to lament the daughter of Jephthah the Gileadite four days in a year.
Samson and Delilah
Judges 16:16
1
Then went Samson to Gaza, and saw there an harlot, and went in unto her.
2
And it was told the Gazites, saying, Samson is come hither. And they compassed him in, and laid wait for him all night
in the gate of the city, and were quiet all the night, saying, In the morning, when it is day, we shall kill him.
3
And Samson lay till midnight, and arose at midnight, and took the doors of the gate of the city, and the two posts, and
went away with them, bar and all, and put them upon his shoulders, and carried them up to the top of an hill
that is before Hebron.
4
And it came to pass afterward, that he loved a woman in the valley of Sorek, whose namewas Delilah.
5
And the lords of the Philistines came up unto her, and said unto her, Entice him, and see wherein his great strength lieth,
and by what means we may prevail against him, that we may bind him to afflict him: and we will give thee every one of
us eleven hundred pieces of silver.
6
And Delilah said to Samson, Tell me, I pray thee, wherein thy great strength lieth, and wherewith thou mightest be
bound to afflict thee.
7
And Samson said unto her, If they bind me with seven green withs that were never dried, then shall I be weak, and be as
another man.
8
Then the lords of the Philistines brought up to her seven green withs which had not been dried, and she bound him with
them.
9
Now there were men lying in wait, abiding with her in the chamber. And she said unto him, The Philistines be upon
thee, Samson. And he brake the withs, as a thread of tow is broken when it toucheth the fire. So his strength was not
known.
10
And Delilah said unto Samson, Behold, thou hast mocked me, and told me lies: now tell me, I pray thee, wherewith
thou mightest be bound.
11
And he said unto her, If they bind me fast with new ropes that never were occupied, then shall I be weak, and be as
another man.
12
Delilah therefore took new ropes, and bound him therewith, and said unto him, The Philistines be upon thee, Samson.
And there wereliers in wait abiding in the chamber. And he brake them from off his arms like a thread.
13
And Delilah said unto Samson, Hitherto thou hast mocked me, and told me lies: tell me wherewith thou mightest be
bound. And he said unto her, If thou weavest the seven locks of my head with the web.
14
And she fastened it with the pin, and said unto him, The Philistines be upon thee, Samson. And he awaked out of his
sleep, and went away with the pin of the beam, and with the web.
15
And she said unto him, How canst thou say, I love thee, when thine heart is not with me? thou hast mocked me these
three times, and hast not told me wherein thy great strength lieth.
16
And it came to pass, when she pressed him daily with her words, and urged him, so that his soul was vexed unto
death;
17
That he told her all his heart, and said unto her, There hath not come a razor upon mine head; for I have been a Nazarite
unto God from my mother's womb: if I be shaven, then my strength will go from me, and I shall become weak, and be
like any other man.
18
And when Delilah saw that he had told her all his heart, she sent and called for the lords of the Philistines, saying,
Come up this once, for he hath shewed me all his heart. Then the lords of the Philistines came up unto her, and brought
money in their hand.
19
And she made him sleep upon her knees; and she called for a man, and she caused him to shave off the seven locks of
his head; and she began to afflict him, and his strength went from him.
20
And she said, The Philistines be upon thee, Samson. And he awoke out of his sleep, and said, I will go out as at other
times before, and shake myself. And he wist not that the LORD was departed from him.
21
 But the Philistines took him, and put out his eyes, and brought him down to Gaza, and bound him with fetters of brass;
and he did grind in the prison house.
22
Howbeit the hair of his head began to grow again after he was shaven.
23
Then the lords of the Philistines gathered them together for to offer a great sacrifice unto Dagon their god, and to
rejoice: for they said, Our god hath delivered Samson our enemy into our hand.
24
And when the people saw him, they praised their god: for they said, Our god hath delivered into our hands our enemy,
and the destroyer of our country, which slew many of us.
25
And it came to pass, when their hearts were merry, that they said, Call for Samson, that he may make us sport. And they
called for Samson out of the prison house; and he made them sport: and they set him between the pillars.
26
And Samson said unto the lad that held him by the hand, Suffer me that I may feel the pillars whereupon the house
standeth, that I may lean upon them.
27
Now the house was full of men and women; and all the lords of the Philistines were there; and there were upon the roof
about three thousand men and women, that beheld while Samson made sport.
28
And Samson called unto the LORD, and said, O Lord GOD, remember me, I pray thee, and strengthen me, I pray thee,
only this once, O God, that I may be at once avenged of the Philistines for my two eyes.
29
And Samson took hold of the two middle pillars upon which the house stood, and on which it was borne up, of the one
with his right hand, and of the other with his left.
30
And Samson said, Let me die with the Philistines. And he bowed himself with all his might; and the house fell upon the
lords, and upon all the people that were therein. So the dead which he slew at his death were more than they which he
slew in his life.
31
Then his brethren and all the house of his father came down, and took him, and brought him up, and buried him
between Zorah and Eshtaol in the buryingplace of Manoah his father. And he judged Israel twenty years.
King Solomon’s Wisdom
1 Kings 3
1
And Solomon made affinity with Pharaoh king of Egypt, and took Pharaoh's daughter, and brought her into the city of
David, until he had made an end of building his own house, and the house of the LORD, and the wall of Jerusalem
round about.
2
Only the people sacrificed in high places, because there was no house built unto the name of the LORD, until those
days.
3
And Solomon loved the LORD, walking in the statutes of David his father: only he sacrificed and burnt incense in high
places.
4
And the king went to Gibeon to sacrifice there; for that was the great high place: a thousand burnt offerings did Solomon
offer upon that altar.
5
In Gibeon the LORD appeared to Solomon in a dream by night: and God said, Ask what I shall give thee.
6
And Solomon said, Thou hast shewed unto thy servant David my father great mercy, according as he walked before thee
in truth, and in righteousness, and in uprightness of heart with thee; and thou hast kept for him this great kindness, that
thou hast given him a son to sit on his throne, as it is this day.
7
And now, O LORD my God, thou hast made thy servant king instead of David my father: and I am but a little child: I
know not how to go out or come in.
8
And thy servant is in the midst of thy people which thou hast chosen, a great people, that cannot be numbered nor
counted for multitude.
9
Give therefore thy servant an understanding heart to judge thy people, that I may discern between good and bad: for who
is able to judge this thy so great a people?
10
And the speech pleased the Lord, that Solomon had asked this thing.
11
And God said unto him, Because thou hast asked this thing, and hast not asked for thyself long life; neither hast asked
riches for thyself, nor hast asked the life of thine enemies; but hast asked for thyself understanding to discern
judgment;
12
Behold, I have done according to thy words: lo, I have given thee a wise and an understanding heart; so that there was
none like thee before thee, neither after thee shall any arise like unto thee.
13
And I have also given thee that which thou hast not asked, both riches, and honour: so that there shall not be any among
the kings like unto thee all thy days.
14
And if thou wilt walk in my ways, to keep my statutes and my commandments, as thy father David did walk, then I will
lengthen thy days.
15
And Solomon awoke; and, behold, it was a dream. And he came to Jerusalem, and stood before the ark of the covenant
of the LORD, and offered up burnt offerings, and offered peace offerings, and made a feast to all his servants.
16
Then came there two women, that were harlots, unto the king, and stood before him.
17
And the one woman said, O my lord, I and this woman dwell in one house; and I was delivered of a child with her in
the house.
18
And it came to pass the third day after that I was delivered, that this woman was delivered also: and
we were together; there was no stranger with us in the house, save we two in the house.
19
And this woman's child died in the night; because she overlaid it.
20
And she arose at midnight, and took my son from beside me, while thine handmaid slept, and laid it in her bosom, and
laid her dead child in my bosom.
21
And when I rose in the morning to give my child suck, behold, it was dead: but when I had considered it in the morning,
behold, it was not my son, which I did bear.
22
And the other woman said, Nay; but the living is my son, and the dead is thy son. And this said, No; but the dead is thy
son, and the living is my son. Thus they spake before the king.
23
Then said the king, The one saith, This is my son that liveth, and thy son is the dead: and the other saith, Nay; but thy
son is the dead, and my son is the living.
24
And the king said, Bring me a sword. And they brought a sword before the king.
25
And the king said, Divide the living child in two, and give half to the one, and half to the other.
26
Then spake the woman whose the living child was unto the king, for her bowels yearned upon her son, and she said, O
my lord, give her the living child, and in no wise slay it. But the other said, Let it be neither mine nor
thine, but divide it.
27
Then the king answered and said, Give her the living child, and in no wise slay it: she is the mother thereof.
28
And all Israel heard of the judgment which the king had judged; and they feared the king: for they saw that the wisdom
of God was in him, to do judgment.
The Patience of Job
Job 1
1
There was a man in the land of Uz, whose name was Job; and that man was perfect and upright, and one that feared God,
and eschewed evil.
2
And there were born unto him seven sons and three daughters.
3
His substance also was seven thousand sheep, and three thousand camels, and five hundred yoke of oxen, and five
hundred she asses, and a very great household; so that this man was the greatest of all the men of the east.
4
And his sons went and feasted in their houses, every one his day; and sent and called for their three sisters to eat and to
drink with them.
5
And it was so, when the days of their feasting were gone about, that Job sent and sanctified them, and rose up early in
the morning, and offered burnt offerings according to the number of them all: for Job said, It may be that my sons have
sinned, and cursed God in their hearts. Thus did Job continually.
6
Now there was a day when the sons of God came to present themselves before the LORD, and Satan came also among
them.
7
And the LORD said unto Satan, Whence comest thou? Then Satan answered the LORD, and said, From going to and fro
in the earth, and from walking up and down in it.
8
And the LORD said unto Satan, Hast thou considered my servant Job, that there is none like him in the earth, a perfect
and an upright man, one that feareth God, and escheweth evil?
9
Then Satan answered the LORD, and said, Doth Job fear God for nought?
10
Hast not thou made an hedge about him, and about his house, and about all that he hath on every side? thou hast blessed
the work of his hands, and his substance is increased in the land.
11
But put forth thine hand now, and touch all that he hath, and he will curse thee to thy face.
12
And the LORD said unto Satan, Behold, all that he hath is in thy power; only upon himself put not forth thine hand. So
Satan went forth from the presence of the LORD.
13
And there was a day when his sons and his daughters were eating and drinking wine in their eldest brother's house:
14
And there came a messenger unto Job, and said, The oxen were plowing, and the asses feeding beside them:
15
And the Sabeans fell upon them, and took them away; yea, they have slain the servants with the edge of the sword; and
I only am escaped alone to tell thee.
16
While he was yet speaking, there came also another, and said, The fire of God is fallen from heaven, and hath burned
up the sheep, and the servants, and consumed them; and I only am escaped alone to tell thee.
17
While he was yet speaking, there came also another, and said, The Chaldeans made out three bands, and fell upon the
camels, and have carried them away, yea, and slain the servants with the edge of the sword; and I only am escaped
alone to tell thee.
18
While he was yet speaking, there came also another, and said, Thy sons and thy daughters were eating and drinking
wine in their eldest brother's house:
19
And, behold, there came a great wind from the wilderness, and smote the four corners of the house, and it fell upon the
young men, and they are dead; and I only am escaped alone to tell thee.
20
Then Job arose, and rent his mantle, and shaved his head, and fell down upon the ground, and worshipped,
21
And said, Naked came I out of my mother's womb, and naked shall I return thither: the LORD gave, and the LORD
hath taken away; blessed be the name of the LORD.
22
In all this Job sinned not, nor charged God foolishly.
Job 2
1
Again there was a day when the sons of God came to present themselves before the LORD, and Satan came also among
them to present himself before the LORD.
2
And the LORD said unto Satan, From whence comest thou? And Satan answered the LORD, and said, From going to
and fro in the earth, and from walking up and down in it.
3
And the LORD said unto Satan, Hast thou considered my servant Job, that there is none like him in the earth, a perfect
and an upright man, one that feareth God, and escheweth evil? and still he holdeth fast his integrity, although thou
movedst me against him, to destroy him without cause.
4
And Satan answered the LORD, and said, Skin for skin, yea, all that a man hath will he give for his life.
5
But put forth thine hand now, and touch his bone and his flesh, and he will curse thee to thy face.
6
And the LORD said unto Satan, Behold, he is in thine hand; but save his life.
7
So went Satan forth from the presence of the LORD, and smote Job with sore boils from the sole of his foot unto his
crown.
8
And he took him a potsherd to scrape himself withal; and he sat down among the ashes.
9
Then said his wife unto him, Dost thou still retain thine integrity? curse God, and die.
10
But he said unto her, Thou speakest as one of the foolish women speaketh. What? shall we receive good at the hand of
God, and shall we not receive evil? In all this did not Job sin with his lips.
11
 Now when Job's three friends heard of all this evil that was come upon him, they came every one from his own place;
Eliphaz the Temanite, and Bildad the Shuhite, and Zophar the Naamathite: for they had made an appointment together
to come to mourn with him and to comfort him.
12
And when they lifted up their eyes afar off, and knew him not, they lifted up their voice, and wept; and they rent every
one his mantle, and sprinkled dust upon their heads toward heaven.
13
So they sat down with him upon the ground seven days and seven nights, and none spake a word unto him: for they saw
that his grief was very great.
Job 3
1
After this opened Job his mouth, and cursed his day.
2
 And Job spake, and said,
3
Let the day perish wherein I was born, and the night in which it was said, There is a man child conceived.
4
Let that day be darkness; let not God regard it from above, neither let the light shine upon it.
5
Let darkness and the shadow of death stain it; let a cloud dwell upon it; let the blackness of the day terrify it.
6
As for that night, let darkness seize upon it; let it not be joined unto the days of the year, let it not come into the number
of the months.
7
Lo, let that night be solitary, let no joyful voice come therein.
8
Let them curse it that curse the day, who are ready to raise up their mourning.
9
Let the stars of the twilight thereof be dark; let it look for light, but have none; neither let it see the dawning of the day:
10
Because it shut not up the doors of my mother's womb, nor hid sorrow from mine eyes.
11
Why died I not from the womb? why did I not give up the ghost when I came out of the belly?
12
Why did the knees prevent me? or why the breasts that I should suck?
13
For now should I have lain still and been quiet, I should have slept: then had I been at rest,
14
 With kings and counsellors of the earth, which built desolate places for themselves;
15
Or with princes that had gold, who filled their houses with silver:
16
Or as an hidden untimely birth I had not been; as infants which never saw light.
17
There the wicked cease from troubling; and there the weary be at rest.
18
There the prisoners rest together; they hear not the voice of the oppressor.
19
The small and great are there; and the servant is free from his master.
20
 Wherefore is light given to him that is in misery, and life unto the bitter in soul;
21
 Which long for death, but it cometh not; and dig for it more than for hid treasures;
22
Which rejoice exceedingly, and are glad, when they can find the grave?
23
Why is light given to a man whose way is hid, and whom God hath hedged in?
24
For my sighing cometh before I eat, and my roarings are poured out like the waters.
25
For the thing which I greatly feared is come upon me, and that which I was afraid of is come unto me.
26
I was not in safety, neither had I rest, neither was I quiet; yet trouble came.
Job 40
1
Moreover the LORD answered Job, and said,
2
Shall he that contendeth with the Almighty instruct him? he that reproveth God, let him answer it.
3
Then Job answered the LORD, and said,
4
Behold, I am vile; what shall I answer thee? I will lay mine hand upon my mouth.
5
Once have I spoken; but I will not answer: yea, twice; but I will proceed no further.
6
Then answered the LORD unto Job out of the whirlwind, and said,
7
Gird up thy loins now like a man: I will demand of thee, and declare thou unto me.
8
Wilt thou also disannul my judgment? wilt thou condemn me, that thou mayest be righteous?
9
Hast thou an arm like God? or canst thou thunder with a voice like him?
10
Deck thyself now with majesty and excellency; and array thyself with glory and beauty.
11
Cast abroad the rage of thy wrath: and behold every one that is proud, and abase him.
12
Look on every one that is proud, and bring him low; and tread down the wicked in their place.
13
Hide them in the dust together; and bind their faces in secret.
14
Then will I also confess unto thee that thine own right hand can save thee.
15
Behold now behemoth, which I made with thee; he eateth grass as an ox.
16
Lo now, his strength is in his loins, and his force is in the navel of his belly.
17
He moveth his tail like a cedar: the sinews of his stones are wrapped together.
18
His bones are as strong pieces of brass; his bones are like bars of iron.
19
He is the chief of the ways of God: he that made him can make his sword to approach unto him.
20
Surely the mountains bring him forth food, where all the beasts of the field play.
21
He lieth under the shady trees, in the covert of the reed, and fens.
22
The shady trees cover him with their shadow; the willows of the brook compass him about.
23
Behold, he drinketh up a river, and hasteth not: he trusteth that he can draw up Jordan into his mouth.
24
He taketh it with his eyes: his nose pierceth through snares.
Job 41
1
Canst thou draw out leviathan with an hook? or his tongue with a cord which thou lettest down?
2
Canst thou put an hook into his nose? or bore his jaw through with a thorn?
3
Will he make many supplications unto thee? will he speak soft words unto thee?
4
Will he make a covenant with thee? wilt thou take him for a servant for ever?
5
Wilt thou play with him as with a bird? or wilt thou bind him for thy maidens?
6
Shall the companions make a banquet of him? shall they part him among the merchants?
7
Canst thou fill his skin with barbed irons? or his head with fish spears?
8
Lay thine hand upon him, remember the battle, do no more.
9
Behold, the hope of him is in vain: shall not one be cast down even at the sight of him?
10
None is so fierce that dare stir him up: who then is able to stand before me?
11
Who hath prevented me, that I should repay him? whatsoever is under the whole heaven is mine.
12
I will not conceal his parts, nor his power, nor his comely proportion.
13
Who can discover the face of his garment? or who can come to him with his double bridle?
14
Who can open the doors of his face? his teeth are terrible round about.
15
His scales are his pride, shut up together as with a close seal.
16
One is so near to another, that no air can come between them.
17
They are joined one to another, they stick together, that they cannot be sundered.
18
By his neesings a light doth shine, and his eyes are like the eyelids of the morning.
19
Out of his mouth go burning lamps, and sparks of fire leap out.
20
Out of his nostrils goeth smoke, as out of a seething pot or caldron.
21
His breath kindleth coals, and a flame goeth out of his mouth.
22
In his neck remaineth strength, and sorrow is turned into joy before him.
23
The flakes of his flesh are joined together: they are firm in themselves; they cannot be moved.
24
His heart is as firm as a stone; yea, as hard as a piece of the nether millstone.
25
When he raiseth up himself, the mighty are afraid: by reason of breakings they purify themselves.
26
The sword of him that layeth at him cannot hold: the spear, the dart, nor the habergeon.
27
He esteemeth iron as straw, and brass as rotten wood.
28
The arrow cannot make him flee: slingstones are turned with him into stubble.
29
Darts are counted as stubble: he laugheth at the shaking of a spear.
30
Sharp stones are under him: he spreadeth sharp pointed things upon the mire.
31
He maketh the deep to boil like a pot: he maketh the sea like a pot of ointment.
32
He maketh a path to shine after him; one would think the deep to be hoary.
33
Upon earth there is not his like, who is made without fear.
34
He beholdeth all high things: he is a king over all the children of pride.
Job 42
1
Then Job answered the LORD, and said,
2
I know that thou canst do every thing, and that no thought can be withholden from thee.
3
Who is he that hideth counsel without knowledge? therefore have I uttered that I understood not; things too wonderful
for me, which I knew not.
4
Hear, I beseech thee, and I will speak: I will demand of thee, and declare thou unto me.
5
I have heard of thee by the hearing of the ear: but now mine eye seeth thee.
6
Wherefore I abhor myself, and repent in dust and ashes.
7
And it was so, that after the LORD had spoken these words unto Job, the LORD said to Eliphaz the Temanite, My wrath
is kindled against thee, and against thy two friends: for ye have not spoken of me the thing that is right, as my servant
Job hath.
8
Therefore take unto you now seven bullocks and seven rams, and go to my servant Job, and offer up for yourselves a
burnt offering; and my servant Job shall pray for you: for him will I accept: lest I deal with you after your folly, in that
ye have not spoken of me the thing which is right, like my servant Job.
9
So Eliphaz the Temanite and Bildad the Shuhite and Zophar the Naamathite went, and did according as the LORD
commanded them: the LORD also accepted Job.
10
And the LORD turned the captivity of Job, when he prayed for his friends: also the LORD gave Job twice as much as
he had before.
11
Then came there unto him all his brethren, and all his sisters, and all they that had been of his acquaintance before, and
did eat bread with him in his house: and they bemoaned him, and comforted him over all the evil that the LORD had
brought upon him: every man also gave him a piece of money, and every one an earring of gold.
12
So the LORD blessed the latter end of Job more than his beginning: for he had fourteen thousand sheep, and six
thousand camels, and a thousand yoke of oxen, and a thousand she asses.
13
He had also seven sons and three daughters.
14
And he called the name of the first, Jemima; and the name of the second, Kezia; and the name of the third,
Kerenhappuch.
15
And in all the land were no women found so fair as the daughters of Job: and their father gave them inheritance among
their brethren.
16
After this lived Job an hundred and forty years, and saw his sons, and his sons' sons, even four generations.
17
So Job died, being old and full of days.
Shadow of Death
Psalm 23
1
(A Psalm of David.) The LORD is my shepherd; I shall not want.
2
He maketh me to lie down in green pastures: he leadeth me beside the still waters.
3
He restoreth my soul: he leadeth me in the paths of righteousness for his name's sake.
4
Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for thou art with me; thy rod and thy
staff they comfort me.
5
Thou preparest a table before me in the presence of mine enemies: thou anointest my head with oil; my cup runneth
over.
6
Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life: and I will dwell in the house of the LORD for ever.
Seven Deadly Sins
Proverbs 6:6-19
6
Go to the ant, thou sluggard; consider her ways, and be wise:
7
Which having no guide, overseer, or ruler,
8
Provideth her meat in the summer, and gathereth her food in the harvest.
9
How long wilt thou sleep, O sluggard? when wilt thou arise out of thy sleep?
10
Yet a little sleep, a little slumber, a little folding of the hands to sleep:
11
So shall thy poverty come as one that travelleth, and thy want as an armed man.
12
A naughty person, a wicked man, walketh with a froward mouth.
13
 He winketh with his eyes, he speaketh with his feet, he teacheth with his fingers;
14
Frowardness is in his heart, he deviseth mischief continually; he soweth discord.
15
Therefore shall his calamity come suddenly; suddenly shall he be broken without remedy.
16
These six things doth the LORD hate: yea, seven are an abomination unto him:
17
A proud look, a lying tongue, and hands that shed innocent blood,
18
An heart that deviseth wicked imaginations, feet that be swift in running to mischief,
19
A false witness that speaketh lies, and he that soweth discord among brethren.
Prophecy of Ninevah
Nahum 3:12
12
All thy strong holds shall be like fig trees with the firstripe figs: if they be shaken, they shall even fall into the mouth of
the eater.
Complaint and Answer
Jeremiah 12
1
Righteous art thou, O LORD, when I plead with thee: yet let me talk with thee of thy judgments: Wherefore doth the
way of the wicked prosper? wherefore are all they happy that deal very treacherously?
2
Thou hast planted them, yea, they have taken root: they grow, yea, they bring forth fruit: thou art near in their mouth,
and far from their reins.
3
But thou, O LORD, knowest me: thou hast seen me, and tried mine heart toward thee: pull them out like sheep for the
slaughter, and prepare them for the day of slaughter.
4
How long shall the land mourn, and the herbs of every field wither, for the wickedness of them that dwell therein? the
beasts are consumed, and the birds; because they said, He shall not see our last end.
5
If thou hast run with the footmen, and they have wearied thee, then how canst thou contend with horses? and if in the
land of peace, wherein thou trustedst, they wearied thee, then how wilt thou do in the swelling of Jordan?
6
For even thy brethren, and the house of thy father, even they have dealt treacherously with thee; yea, they have called a
multitude after thee: believe them not, though they speak fair words unto thee.
7
I have forsaken mine house, I have left mine heritage; I have given the dearly beloved of my soul into the hand of her
enemies.
8
Mine heritage is unto me as a lion in the forest; it crieth out against me: therefore have I hated it.
9
Mine heritage is unto me as a speckled bird, the birds round about are against her; come ye, assemble all the beasts of
the field, come to devour.
10
Many pastors have destroyed my vineyard, they have trodden my portion under foot, they have made my pleasant
portion a desolate wilderness.
11
They have made it desolate, and being desolate it mourneth unto me; the whole land is made desolate, because no man
layeth it to heart.
12
The spoilers are come upon all high places through the wilderness: for the sword of the LORD shall devour from
the one end of the land even to the other end of the land: no flesh shall have peace.
13
They have sown wheat, but shall reap thorns: they have put themselves to pain, but shall not profit: and they shall be
ashamed of your revenues because of the fierce anger of the LORD.
14
Thus saith the LORD against all mine evil neighbours, that touch the inheritance which I have caused my people Israel
to inherit; Behold, I will pluck them out of their land, and pluck out the house of Judah from among them.
15
And it shall come to pass, after that I have plucked them out I will return, and have compassion on them, and will bring
them again, every man to his heritage, and every man to his land.
16
 And it shall come to pass, if they will diligently learn the ways of my people, to swear by my name, The LORD liveth;
as they taught my people to swear by Baal; then shall they be built in the midst of my people.
17
But if they will not obey, I will utterly pluck up and destroy that nation, saith the LORD.
The Beatitudes
Matthew 5:1-12
1
And seeing the multitudes, he went up into a mountain: and when he was set, his disciples came unto him:
2
And he opened his mouth, and taught them, saying,
3
Blessed are the poor in spirit: for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.
4
Blessed are they that mourn: for they shall be comforted.
5
Blessed are the meek: for they shall inherit the earth.
6
Blessed are they which do hunger and thirst after righteousness: for they shall be filled.
7
Blessed are the merciful: for they shall obtain mercy.
8
Blessed are the pure in heart: for they shall see God.
9
Blessed are the peacemakers: for they shall be called the children of God.
10
Blessed are they which are persecuted for righteousness' sake: for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.
11
Blessed are ye, when men shall revile you, and persecute you, and shall say all manner of evil against you falsely, for
my sake.
12
Rejoice, and be exceeding glad: for great is your reward in heaven: for so persecuted they the prophets which were
before you.
27
What I tell you in darkness, that speak ye in light: and what ye hear in the ear, that preach ye upon the housetops.
28
And fear not them which kill the body, but are not able to kill the soul: but rather fear him which is able to destroy both
soul and body in hell.
29
Are not two sparrows sold for a farthing? and one of them shall not fall on the ground without your Father.
Fall of a Sparrow
Matthew 10: 27-39
30
But the very hairs of your head are all numbered.
31
Fear ye not therefore, ye are of more value than many sparrows.
32
Whosoever therefore shall confess me before men, him will I confess also before my Father which is in heaven.
33
But whosoever shall deny me before men, him will I also deny before my Father which is in heaven.
34
Think not that I am come to send peace on earth: I came not to send peace, but a sword.
35
For I am come to set a man at variance against his father, and the daughter against her mother, and the daughter in law
against her mother in law.
36
And a man's foes shall be they of his own household.
37
He that loveth father or mother more than me is not worthy of me: and he that loveth son or daughter more than me is
not worthy of me.
38
And he that taketh not his cross, and followeth after me, is not worthy of me.
39
He that findeth his life shall lose it: and he that loseth his life for my sake shall find it.
John the Baptist Head on a Platter
Matthew 14:1-12
1
At that time Herod the tetrarch heard of the fame of Jesus,
2
And said unto his servants, This is John the Baptist; he is risen from the dead; and therefore mighty works do shew forth
themselves in him.
3
For Herod had laid hold on John, and bound him, and put him in prison for Herodias' sake, his brother Philip's wife.
4
For John said unto him, It is not lawful for thee to have her.
5
And when he would have put him to death, he feared the multitude, because they counted him as a prophet.
6
But when Herod's birthday was kept, the daughter of Herodias danced before them, and pleased Herod.
7
Whereupon he promised with an oath to give her whatsoever she would ask.
8
And she, being before instructed of her mother, said, Give me here John Baptist's head in a charger.
9
And the king was sorry: nevertheless for the oath's sake, and them which sat with him at meat, he commanded it to be
given her.
10
And he sent, and beheaded John in the prison.
11
And his head was brought in a charger, and given to the damsel: and she brought it to her mother.
12
And his disciples came, and took up the body, and buried it, and went and told Jesus.
Rich Man/Camel
Matthew 19:16-26
16
And, behold, one came and said unto him, Good Master, what good thing shall I do, that I may have eternal life?
17
And he said unto him, Why callest thou me good? there is none good but one, that is, God: but if thou wilt enter into
life, keep the commandments.
18
He saith unto him, Which? Jesus said, Thou shalt do no murder, Thou shalt not commit adultery, Thou shalt not steal,
Thou shalt not bear false witness,
19
Honour thy father and thy mother: and, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself.
20
The young man saith unto him, All these things have I kept from my youth up: what lack I yet?
21
Jesus said unto him, If thou wilt be perfect, go and sell that thou hast, and give to the poor, and thou shalt have treasure
in heaven: and come and follow me.
22
But when the young man heard that saying, he went away sorrowful: for he had great possessions.
23
Then said Jesus unto his disciples, Verily I say unto you, That a rich man shall hardly enter into the kingdom of heaven.
24
And again I say unto you, It is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle, than for a rich man to enter into the
kingdom of God.
25
When his disciples heard it, they were exceedingly amazed, saying, Who then can be saved?
26
But Jesus beheld them, and said unto them, With men this is impossible; but with God all things are possible.
No One Knows the Day or Hour
Matthew 24:44
44
Therefore be ye also ready: for in such an hour as ye think not the Son of man cometh.
Judas/ Silver Coins
Matthew 26:14-16
14
Then one of the twelve, called Judas Iscariot, went unto the chief priests,
15
And said unto them, What will ye give me, and I will deliver him unto you? And they covenanted with him for thirty
pieces of silver.
16
And from that time he sought opportunity to betray him.
Golgotha, Pilate
Matthew 27
1
When the morning was come, all the chief priests and elders of the people took counsel against Jesus to put him to
death:
2
And when they had bound him, they led him away, and delivered him to Pontius Pilate the governor.
3
Then Judas, which had betrayed him, when he saw that he was condemned, repented himself, and brought again the
thirty pieces of silver to the chief priests and elders,
4
Saying, I have sinned in that I have betrayed the innocent blood. And they said, What is that to us? see thou to that.
5
And he cast down the pieces of silver in the temple, and departed, and went and hanged himself.
6
And the chief priests took the silver pieces, and said, It is not lawful for to put them into the treasury, because it is the
price of blood.
7
And they took counsel, and bought with them the potter's field, to bury strangers in.
8
Wherefore that field was called, The field of blood, unto this day.
9
Then was fulfilled that which was spoken by Jeremy the prophet, saying, And they took the thirty pieces of silver, the
price of him that was valued, whom they of the children of Israel did value;
10
And gave them for the potter's field, as the Lord appointed me.
11
And Jesus stood before the governor: and the governor asked him, saying, Art thou the King of the Jews? And Jesus
said unto him, Thou sayest.
12
And when he was accused of the chief priests and elders, he answered nothing.
13
Then said Pilate unto him, Hearest thou not how many things they witness against thee?
14
And he answered him to never a word; insomuch that the governor marvelled greatly.
15
Now at that feast the governor was wont to release unto the people a prisoner, whom they would.
16
And they had then a notable prisoner, called Barabbas.
17
Therefore when they were gathered together, Pilate said unto them, Whom will ye that I release unto you? Barabbas, or
Jesus which is called Christ?
18
For he knew that for envy they had delivered him.
19
When he was set down on the judgment seat, his wife sent unto him, saying, Have thou nothing to do with that just
man: for I have suffered many things this day in a dream because of him.
20
But the chief priests and elders persuaded the multitude that they should ask Barabbas, and destroy Jesus.
21
The governor answered and said unto them, Whether of the twain will ye that I release unto you? They said, Barabbas.
22
Pilate saith unto them, What shall I do then with Jesus which is called Christ? They all say unto him, Let him be
crucified.
23
And the governor said, Why, what evil hath he done? But they cried out the more, saying, Let him be crucified.
24
When Pilate saw that he could prevail nothing, but that rather a tumult was made, he took water, and washed his hands
before the multitude, saying, I am innocent of the blood of this just person: see ye to it.
25
Then answered all the people, and said, His blood be on us, and on our children.
26
Then released he Barabbas unto them: and when he had scourged Jesus, he delivered him to be crucified.
27
Then the soldiers of the governor took Jesus into the common hall, and gathered unto him the whole band of soldiers.
28
And they stripped him, and put on him a scarlet robe.
29
And when they had platted a crown of thorns, they put it upon his head, and a reed in his right hand: and they bowed the
knee before him, and mocked him, saying, Hail, King of the Jews!
30
And they spit upon him, and took the reed, and smote him on the head.
31
And after that they had mocked him, they took the robe off from him, and put his own raiment on him, and led him
away to crucify him.
32
And as they came out, they found a man of Cyrene, Simon by name: him they compelled to bear his cross.
33
And when they were come unto a place called Golgotha, that is to say, a place of a skull,
34
They gave him vinegar to drink mingled with gall: and when he had tasted thereof, he would not drink.
35
And they crucified him, and parted his garments, casting lots: that it might be fulfilled which was spoken by the
prophet, They parted my garments among them, and upon my vesture did they cast lots.
36
 And sitting down they watched him there;
37
And set up over his head his accusation written, THIS IS JESUS THE KING OF THE JEWS.
38
Then were there two thieves crucified with him, one on the right hand, and another on the left.
39
And they that passed by reviled him, wagging their heads,
40
And saying, Thou that destroyest the temple, and buildest it in three days, save thyself. If thou be the Son of God, come
down from the cross.
41
Likewise also the chief priests mocking him, with the scribes and elders, said,
42
He saved others; himself he cannot save. If he be the King of Israel, let him now come down from the cross, and we
will believe him.
43
He trusted in God; let him deliver him now, if he will have him: for he said, I am the Son of God.
44
The thieves also, which were crucified with him, cast the same in his teeth.
45
Now from the sixth hour there was darkness over all the land unto the ninth hour.
46
And about the ninth hour Jesus cried with a loud voice, saying, Eli, Eli, lama sabachthani? that is to say, My God, my
God, why hast thou forsaken me?
47
Some of them that stood there, when they heard that, said, This man calleth for Elias.
48
And straightway one of them ran, and took a spunge, and filled it with vinegar, and put it on a reed, and gave him to
drink.
49
The rest said, Let be, let us see whether Elias will come to save him.
50
Jesus, when he had cried again with a loud voice, yielded up the ghost.
51
And, behold, the veil of the temple was rent in twain from the top to the bottom; and the earth did quake, and the rocks
rent;
52
And the graves were opened; and many bodies of the saints which slept arose,
53
And came out of the graves after his resurrection, and went into the holy city, and appeared unto many.
54
Now when the centurion, and they that were with him, watching Jesus, saw the earthquake, and those things that were
done, they feared greatly, saying, Truly this was the Son of God.
55
And many women were there beholding afar off, which followed Jesus from Galilee, ministering unto him:
56
Among which was Mary Magdalene, and Mary the mother of James and Joses, and the mother of Zebedee's children.
57
When the even was come, there came a rich man of Arimathaea, named Joseph, who also himself was Jesus' disciple:
58
He went to Pilate, and begged the body of Jesus. Then Pilate commanded the body to be delivered.
59
And when Joseph had taken the body, he wrapped it in a clean linen cloth,
60
And laid it in his own new tomb, which he had hewn out in the rock: and he rolled a great stone to the door of the
sepulchre, and departed.
61
And there was Mary Magdalene, and the other Mary, sitting over against the sepulchre.
62
Now the next day, that followed the day of the preparation, the chief priests and Pharisees came together unto Pilate,
63
Saying, Sir, we remember that that deceiver said, while he was yet alive, After three days I will rise again.
64
Command therefore that the sepulchre be made sure until the third day, lest his disciples come by night, and steal him
away, and say unto the people, He is risen from the dead: so the last error shall be worse than the first.
65
Pilate said unto them, Ye have a watch: go your way, make it as sure as ye can.
66
So they went, and made the sepulchre sure, sealing the stone, and setting a watch.
Know You Not
1 Corinthians 3:16-17
16
Know ye not that ye are the temple of God, and that the Spirit of God dwelleth in you?
17
If any man defile the temple of God, him shall God destroy; for the temple of God is holy, which temple ye are.
Gethsemane/ Temptation of Christ
Mark 14: 32-42
32
And they came to a place which was named Gethsemane: and he saith to his disciples, Sit ye here, while I shall pray.
33
 And he taketh with him Peter and James and John, and began to be sore amazed, and to be very heavy;
34
And saith unto them, My soul is exceeding sorrowful unto death: tarry ye here, and watch.
35
And he went forward a little, and fell on the ground, and prayed that, if it were possible, the hour might pass from him.
36
And he said, Abba, Father, all things are possible unto thee; take away this cup from me: nevertheless not what I will,
but what thou wilt.
37
And he cometh, and findeth them sleeping, and saith unto Peter, Simon, sleepest thou? couldest not thou watch one
hour?
38
Watch ye and pray, lest ye enter into temptation. The spirit truly is ready, but the flesh is weak.
39
And again he went away, and prayed, and spake the same words.
40
And when he returned, he found them asleep again, (for their eyes were heavy,) neither wist they what to answer him.
41
 And he cometh the third time, and saith unto them, Sleep on now, and take your rest: it is enough, the hour is come;
behold, the Son of man is betrayed into the hands of sinners.
42
Rise up, let us go; lo, he that betrayeth me is at hand.
Blind Leading the Blind
Luke 6:39-42
39
And he spake a parable unto them, Can the blind lead the blind? shall they not both fall into the ditch?
40
The disciple is not above his master: but every one that is perfect shall be as his master.
41
And why beholdest thou the mote that is in thy brother's eye, but perceivest not the beam that is in thine own eye?
42
Either how canst thou say to thy brother, Brother, let me pull out the mote that is in thine eye, when thou thyself
beholdest not the beam that is in thine own eye? Thou hypocrite, cast out first the beam out of thine own eye, and then
shalt thou see clearly to pull out the mote that is in thy brother's eye.
Two Foundations
Luke 6: 46-49
46
And why call ye me, Lord, Lord, and do not the things which I say?
47
Whosoever cometh to me, and heareth my sayings, and doeth them, I will shew you to whom he is like:
48
He is like a man which built an house, and digged deep, and laid the foundation on a rock: and when the flood arose, the
stream beat vehemently upon that house, and could not shake it: for it was founded upon a rock.
49
But he that heareth, and doeth not, is like a man that without a foundation built an house upon the earth; against which
the stream did beat vehemently, and immediately it fell; and the ruin of that house was great.
Parable of the Soils
Luke 8: 4-15
4
And when much people were gathered together, and were come to him out of every city, he spake by a parable:
5
A sower went out to sow his seed: and as he sowed, some fell by the way side; and it was trodden down, and the fowls
of the air devoured it.
6
And some fell upon a rock; and as soon as it was sprung up, it withered away, because it lacked moisture.
7
And some fell among thorns; and the thorns sprang up with it, and choked it.
8
And other fell on good ground, and sprang up, and bare fruit an hundredfold. And when he had said these things, he
cried, He that hath ears to hear, let him hear.
9
And his disciples asked him, saying, What might this parable be?
10
And he said, Unto you it is given to know the mysteries of the kingdom of God: but to others in parables; that seeing
they might not see, and hearing they might not understand.
11
Now the parable is this: The seed is the word of God.
12
Those by the way side are they that hear; then cometh the devil, and taketh away the word out of their hearts, lest they
should believe and be saved.
13
They on the rock are they, which, when they hear, receive the word with joy; and these have no root, which for a while
believe, and in time of temptation fall away.
14
And that which fell among thorns are they, which, when they have heard, go forth, and are choked with cares and riches
and pleasures of this life, and bring no fruit to perfection.
15
But that on the good ground are they, which in an honest and good heart, having heard the word, keep it, and bring forth
fruit with patience.
The Good Samaritan
Luke 11: 29-38
29
And when the people were gathered thick together, he began to say, This is an evil generation: they seek a sign; and
there shall no sign be given it, but the sign of Jonas the prophet.
30
For as Jonas was a sign unto the Ninevites, so shall also the Son of man be to this generation.
31
The queen of the south shall rise up in the judgment with the men of this generation, and condemn them: for she came
from the utmost parts of the earth to hear the wisdom of Solomon; and, behold, a greater than Solomon is here.
32
The men of Nineve shall rise up in the judgment with this generation, and shall condemn it: for they repented at the
preaching of Jonas; and, behold, a greater than Jonas is here.
33
No man, when he hath lighted a candle, putteth it in a secret place, neither under a bushel, but on a candlestick, that
they which come in may see the light.
34
The light of the body is the eye: therefore when thine eye is single, thy whole body also is full of light; but when thine
eye is evil, thy body also is full of darkness.
35
Take heed therefore that the light which is in thee be not darkness.
36
If thy whole body therefore be full of light, having no part dark, the whole shall be full of light, as when the bright
shining of a candle doth give thee light.
37
And as he spake, a certain Pharisee besought him to dine with him: and he went in, and sat down to meat.
38
And when the Pharisee saw it, he marvelled that he had not first washed before dinner.
Parable of the Lost Sheep
Luke 15:1-7
1
Then drew near unto him all the publicans and sinners for to hear him.
2
And the Pharisees and scribes murmured, saying, This man receiveth sinners, and eateth with them.
3
And he spake this parable unto them, saying,
4
What man of you, having an hundred sheep, if he lose one of them, doth not leave the ninety and nine in the wilderness,
and go after that which is lost, until he find it?
5
And when he hath found it, he layeth it on his shoulders, rejoicing.
6
And when he cometh home, he calleth together his friends and neighbours, saying unto them, Rejoice with me; for I
have found my sheep which was lost.
7
I say unto you, that likewise joy shall be in heaven over one sinner that repenteth, more than over ninety and nine just
persons, which need no repentance.
The Prodigal Son
Luke 15:11-32
11
And he said, A certain man had two sons:
12
And the younger of them said to his father, Father, give me the portion of goods that falleth to me. And he divided unto
them hisliving.
13
And not many days after the younger son gathered all together, and took his journey into a far country, and there wasted
his substance with riotous living.
14
And when he had spent all, there arose a mighty famine in that land; and he began to be in want.
15
And he went and joined himself to a citizen of that country; and he sent him into his fields to feed swine.
16
And he would fain have filled his belly with the husks that the swine did eat: and no man gave unto him.
17
And when he came to himself, he said, How many hired servants of my father's have bread enough and to spare, and I
perish with hunger!
18
I will arise and go to my father, and will say unto him, Father, I have sinned against heaven, and before thee,
19
And am no more worthy to be called thy son: make me as one of thy hired servants.
20
And he arose, and came to his father. But when he was yet a great way off, his father saw him, and had compassion, and
ran, and fell on his neck, and kissed him.
21
And the son said unto him, Father, I have sinned against heaven, and in thy sight, and am no more worthy to be called
thy son.
22
But the father said to his servants, Bring forth the best robe, and put it on him; and put a ring on his hand, and shoes
on his feet:
23
And bring hither the fatted calf, and kill it; and let us eat, and be merry:
24
For this my son was dead, and is alive again; he was lost, and is found. And they began to be merry.
25
Now his elder son was in the field: and as he came and drew nigh to the house, he heard musick and dancing.
26
And he called one of the servants, and asked what these things meant.
27
And he said unto him, Thy brother is come; and thy father hath killed the fatted calf, because he hath received him safe
and sound.
28
And he was angry, and would not go in: therefore came his father out, and intreated him.
29
And he answering said to his father, Lo, these many years do I serve thee, neither transgressed I at any time thy
commandment: and yet thou never gavest me a kid, that I might make merry with my friends:
30
But as soon as this thy son was come, which hath devoured thy living with harlots, thou hast killed for him the fatted
calf.
31
And he said unto him, Son, thou art ever with me, and all that I have is thine.
32
It was meet that we should make merry, and be glad: for this thy brother was dead, and is alive again; and was lost, and
is found.
Render unto Caesar
Luke 20:19-26
19
And the chief priests and the scribes the same hour sought to lay hands on him; and they feared the people: for they
perceived that he had spoken this parable against them.
20
And they watched him, and sent forth spies, which should feign themselves just men, that they might take hold of his
words, that so they might deliver him unto the power and authority of the governor.
21
And they asked him, saying, Master, we know that thou sayest and teachest rightly, neither acceptest thou the person of
any, but teachest the way of God truly:
22
Is it lawful for us to give tribute unto Caesar, or no?
23
But he perceived their craftiness, and said unto them, Why tempt ye me?
24
Shew me a penny. Whose image and superscription hath it? They answered and said, Caesar's.
25
And he said unto them, Render therefore unto Caesar the things which be Caesar's, and unto God the things which be
God's.
26
And they could not take hold of his words before the people: and they marvelled at his answer, and held their peace.
Lazarus
John 11
1
Now a certain man was sick, named Lazarus, of Bethany, the town of Mary and her sister Martha.
2
(It was that Mary which anointed the Lord with ointment, and wiped his feet with her hair, whose brother Lazarus was
sick.)
3
Therefore his sisters sent unto him, saying, Lord, behold, he whom thou lovest is sick.
4
When Jesus heard that, he said, This sickness is not unto death, but for the glory of God, that the Son of God might be
glorified thereby.
5
Now Jesus loved Martha, and her sister, and Lazarus.
6
When he had heard therefore that he was sick, he abode two days still in the same place where he was.
7
Then after that saith he to his disciples, Let us go into Judaea again.
8
His disciples say unto him, Master, the Jews of late sought to stone thee; and goest thou thither again?
9
Jesus answered, Are there not twelve hours in the day? If any man walk in the day, he stumbleth not, because he seeth
the light of this world.
10
But if a man walk in the night, he stumbleth, because there is no light in him.
11
These things said he: and after that he saith unto them, Our friend Lazarus sleepeth; but I go, that I may awake him out
of sleep.
12
Then said his disciples, Lord, if he sleep, he shall do well.
13
Howbeit Jesus spake of his death: but they thought that he had spoken of taking of rest in sleep.
14
Then said Jesus unto them plainly, Lazarus is dead.
15
And I am glad for your sakes that I was not there, to the intent ye may believe; nevertheless let us go unto him.
16
Then said Thomas, which is called Didymus, unto his fellowdisciples, Let us also go, that we may die with him.
17
Then when Jesus came, he found that he had lain in the grave four days already.
18
Now Bethany was nigh unto Jerusalem, about fifteen furlongs off:
19
And many of the Jews came to Martha and Mary, to comfort them concerning their brother.
20
Then Martha, as soon as she heard that Jesus was coming, went and met him: but Mary sat still in the house.
21
Then said Martha unto Jesus, Lord, if thou hadst been here, my brother had not died.
22
But I know, that even now, whatsoever thou wilt ask of God, God will give it thee.
23
Jesus saith unto her, Thy brother shall rise again.
24
Martha saith unto him, I know that he shall rise again in the resurrection at the last day.
25
Jesus said unto her, I am the resurrection, and the life: he that believeth in me, though he were dead, yet shall he live:
26
And whosoever liveth and believeth in me shall never die. Believest thou this?
27
She saith unto him, Yea, Lord: I believe that thou art the Christ, the Son of God, which should come into the world.
28
And when she had so said, she went her way, and called Mary her sister secretly, saying, The Master is come, and
calleth for thee.
29
As soon as she heard that, she arose quickly, and came unto him.
30
Now Jesus was not yet come into the town, but was in that place where Martha met him.
31
The Jews then which were with her in the house, and comforted her, when they saw Mary, that she rose up hastily and
went out, followed her, saying, She goeth unto the grave to weep there.
32
Then when Mary was come where Jesus was, and saw him, she fell down at his feet, saying unto him, Lord, if thou
hadst been here, my brother had not died.
33
When Jesus therefore saw her weeping, and the Jews also weeping which came with her, he groaned in the spirit, and
was troubled,
34
And said, Where have ye laid him? They said unto him, Lord, come and see.
35
 Jesus wept.
36
Then said the Jews, Behold how he loved him!
37
And some of them said, Could not this man, which opened the eyes of the blind, have caused that even this man should
not have died?
38
Jesus therefore again groaning in himself cometh to the grave. It was a cave, and a stone lay upon it.
39
Jesus said, Take ye away the stone. Martha, the sister of him that was dead, saith unto him, Lord, by this time he
stinketh: for he hath been dead four days.
40
Jesus saith unto her, Said I not unto thee, that, if thou wouldest believe, thou shouldest see the glory of God?
41
Then they took away the stone from the place where the dead was laid. And Jesus lifted up his eyes, and said, Father, I
thank thee that thou hast heard me.
42
And I knew that thou hearest me always: but because of the people which stand by I said it, that they may believe that
thou hast sent me.
43
And when he thus had spoken, he cried with a loud voice, Lazarus, come forth.
44
And he that was dead came forth, bound hand and foot with graveclothes: and his face was bound about with a napkin.
Jesus saith unto them, Loose him, and let him go.
45
Then many of the Jews which came to Mary, and had seen the things which Jesus did, believed on him.
46
But some of them went their ways to the Pharisees, and told them what things Jesus had done.
47
Then gathered the chief priests and the Pharisees a council, and said, What do we? for this man doeth many miracles.
48
If we let him thus alone, all men will believe on him: and the Romans shall come and take away both our place and
nation.
49
And one of them, named Caiaphas, being the high priest that same year, said unto them, Ye know nothing at all,
50
Nor consider that it is expedient for us, that one man should die for the people, and that the whole nation perish not.
51
 And this spake he not of himself: but being high priest that year, he prophesied that Jesus should die for that nation;
52
And not for that nation only, but that also he should gather together in one the children of God that were scattered
abroad.
53
Then from that day forth they took counsel together for to put him to death.
54
Jesus therefore walked no more openly among the Jews; but went thence unto a country near to the wilderness, into a
city called Ephraim, and there continued with his disciples.
55
And the Jews' passover was nigh at hand: and many went out of the country up to Jerusalem before the passover, to
purify themselves.
56
Then sought they for Jesus, and spake among themselves, as they stood in the temple, What think ye, that he will not
come to the feast?
57
Now both the chief priests and the Pharisees had given a commandment, that, if any man knew where he were, he
should shew it, that they might take him.
Jesus Tells John
John 13
1
Now before the feast of the passover, when Jesus knew that his hour was come that he should depart out of this world
unto the Father, having loved his own which were in the world, he loved them unto the end.
2
 And supper being ended, the devil having now put into the heart of Judas Iscariot, Simon's son, to betray him;
3
 Jesus knowing that the Father had given all things into his hands, and that he was come from God, and went to God;
4
He riseth from supper, and laid aside his garments; and took a towel, and girded himself.
5
After that he poureth water into a bason, and began to wash the disciples' feet, and to wipe themwith the towel
wherewith he was girded.
6
Then cometh he to Simon Peter: and Peter saith unto him, Lord, dost thou wash my feet?
7
Jesus answered and said unto him, What I do thou knowest not now; but thou shalt know hereafter.
8
Peter saith unto him, Thou shalt never wash my feet. Jesus answered him, If I wash thee not, thou hast no part with me.
9
Simon Peter saith unto him, Lord, not my feet only, but also my hands and my head.
10
Jesus saith to him, He that is washed needeth not save to wash his feet, but is clean every whit: and ye are clean, but not
all.
11
For he knew who should betray him; therefore said he, Ye are not all clean.
12
So after he had washed their feet, and had taken his garments, and was set down again, he said unto them, Know ye
what I have done to you?
13
Ye call me Master and Lord: and ye say well; for so I am.
14
If I then, your Lord and Master, have washed your feet; ye also ought to wash one another's feet.
15
For I have given you an example, that ye should do as I have done to you.
16
Verily, verily, I say unto you, The servant is not greater than his lord; neither he that is sent greater than he that sent
him.
17
If ye know these things, happy are ye if ye do them.
18
I speak not of you all: I know whom I have chosen: but that the scripture may be fulfilled, He that eateth bread with me
hath lifted up his heel against me.
19
Now I tell you before it come, that, when it is come to pass, ye may believe that I am he.
20
Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that receiveth whomsoever I send receiveth me; and he that receiveth me receiveth
him that sent me.
21
When Jesus had thus said, he was troubled in spirit, and testified, and said, Verily, verily, I say unto you, that one of
you shall betray me.
22
Then the disciples looked one on another, doubting of whom he spake.
23
Now there was leaning on Jesus' bosom one of his disciples, whom Jesus loved.
24
Simon Peter therefore beckoned to him, that he should ask who it should be of whom he spake.
25
He then lying on Jesus' breast saith unto him, Lord, who is it?
26
Jesus answered, He it is, to whom I shall give a sop, when I have dipped it. And when he had dipped the sop, he
gave it to Judas Iscariot, the son of Simon.
27
And after the sop Satan entered into him. Then said Jesus unto him, That thou doest, do quickly.
28
Now no man at the table knew for what intent he spake this unto him.
29
For some of them thought, because Judas had the bag, that Jesus had said unto him, Buy those things that we have need
of against the feast; or, that he should give something to the poor.
30
He then having received the sop went immediately out: and it was night.
31
Therefore, when he was gone out, Jesus said, Now is the Son of man glorified, and God is glorified in him.
32
If God be glorified in him, God shall also glorify him in himself, and shall straightway glorify him.
33
Little children, yet a little while I am with you. Ye shall seek me: and as I said unto the Jews, Whither I go, ye cannot
come; so now I say to you.
34
A new commandment I give unto you, That ye love one another; as I have loved you, that ye also love one another.
35
By this shall all men know that ye are my disciples, if ye have love one to another.
36
 Simon Peter said unto him, Lord, whither goest thou? Jesus answered him, Whither I go, thou canst not follow me now;
but thou shalt follow me afterwards.
37
Peter said unto him, Lord, why cannot I follow thee now? I will lay down my life for thy sake.
38
Jesus answered him, Wilt thou lay down thy life for my sake? Verily, verily, I say unto thee, The cock shall not crow,
till thou hast denied me thrice.
The Book of Revelation
Revelation 1
1
The Revelation of Jesus Christ, which God gave unto him, to shew unto his servants things which must shortly come to
pass; and he sent and signified it by his angel unto his servant John:
2
Who bare record of the word of God, and of the testimony of Jesus Christ, and of all things that he saw.
3
Blessed is he that readeth, and they that hear the words of this prophecy, and keep those things which are written therein:
for the time is at hand.
4
John to the seven churches which are in Asia: Grace be unto you, and peace, from him which is, and which was, and
which is to come; and from the seven Spirits which are before his throne;
5
And from Jesus Christ, who is the faithful witness, and the first begotten of the dead, and the prince of the kings of the
earth. Unto him that loved us, and washed us from our sins in his own blood,
6
And hath made us kings and priests unto God and his Father; to him be glory and dominion for ever and ever. Amen.
7
Behold, he cometh with clouds; and every eye shall see him, and they also which pierced him: and all kindreds of the
earth shall wail because of him. Even so, Amen.
8
I am Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the ending, saith the Lord, which is, and which was, and which is to come,
the Almighty.
9
I John, who also am your brother, and companion in tribulation, and in the kingdom and patience of Jesus Christ, was in
the isle that is called Patmos, for the word of God, and for the testimony of Jesus Christ.
10
I was in the Spirit on the Lord's day, and heard behind me a great voice, as of a trumpet,
11
Saying, I am Alpha and Omega, the first and the last: and, What thou seest, write in a book, and send it unto the seven
churches which are in Asia; unto Ephesus, and unto Smyrna, and unto Pergamos, and unto Thyatira, and unto Sardis,
and unto Philadelphia, and unto Laodicea.
12
 And I turned to see the voice that spake with me. And being turned, I saw seven golden candlesticks;
13
And in the midst of the seven candlesticks one like unto the Son of man, clothed with a garment down to the foot, and
girt about the paps with a golden girdle.
14
 His head and his hairs were white like wool, as white as snow; and his eyes were as a flame of fire;
15
And his feet like unto fine brass, as if they burned in a furnace; and his voice as the sound of many waters.
16
And he had in his right hand seven stars: and out of his mouth went a sharp twoedged sword: and his
countenance was as the sun shineth in his strength.
17
And when I saw him, I fell at his feet as dead. And he laid his right hand upon me, saying unto me, Fear not; I am the
first and the last:
18
I am he that liveth, and was dead; and, behold, I am alive for evermore, Amen; and have the keys of hell and of death.
19
 Write the things which thou hast seen, and the things which are, and the things which shall be hereafter;
20
The mystery of the seven stars which thou sawest in my right hand, and the seven golden candlesticks. The seven stars
are the angels of the seven churches: and the seven candlesticks which thou sawest are the seven churches.
Revelation 2
1
Unto the angel of the church of Ephesus write; These things saith he that holdeth the seven stars in his right hand, who
walketh in the midst of the seven golden candlesticks;
2
I know thy works, and thy labour, and thy patience, and how thou canst not bear them which are evil: and thou hast tried
them which say they are apostles, and are not, and hast found them liars:
3
And hast borne, and hast patience, and for my name's sake hast laboured, and hast not fainted.
4
Nevertheless I have somewhat against thee, because thou hast left thy first love.
5
Remember therefore from whence thou art fallen, and repent, and do the first works; or else I will come unto thee
quickly, and will remove thy candlestick out of his place, except thou repent.
6
But this thou hast, that thou hatest the deeds of the Nicolaitans, which I also hate.
7
He that hath an ear, let him hear what the Spirit saith unto the churches; To him that overcometh will I give to eat of the
tree of life, which is in the midst of the paradise of God.
8
 And unto the angel of the church in Smyrna write; These things saith the first and the last, which was dead, and is alive;
9
I know thy works, and tribulation, and poverty, (but thou art rich) and I know the blasphemy of them which say they are
Jews, and are not, but are the synagogue of Satan.
10
Fear none of those things which thou shalt suffer: behold, the devil shall cast some of you into prison, that ye may be
tried; and ye shall have tribulation ten days: be thou faithful unto death, and I will give thee a crown of life.
11
He that hath an ear, let him hear what the Spirit saith unto the churches; He that overcometh shall not be hurt of the
second death.
12
 And to the angel of the church in Pergamos write; These things saith he which hath the sharp sword with two edges;
13
I know thy works, and where thou dwellest, even where Satan's seat is: and thou holdest fast my name, and hast not
denied my faith, even in those days wherein Antipas was my faithful martyr, who was slain among you, where Satan
dwelleth.
14
But I have a few things against thee, because thou hast there them that hold the doctrine of Balaam, who taught Balac to
cast a stumblingblock before the children of Israel, to eat things sacrificed unto idols, and to commit fornication.
15
So hast thou also them that hold the doctrine of the Nicolaitans, which thing I hate.
16
Repent; or else I will come unto thee quickly, and will fight against them with the sword of my mouth.
17
He that hath an ear, let him hear what the Spirit saith unto the churches; To him that overcometh will I give to eat of the
hidden manna, and will give him a white stone, and in the stone a new name written, which no man knoweth saving he
that receiveth it.
18
And unto the angel of the church in Thyatira write; These things saith the Son of God, who hath his eyes like unto a
flame of fire, and his feet are like fine brass;
19
I know thy works, and charity, and service, and faith, and thy patience, and thy works; and the last to be more than the
first.
20
Notwithstanding I have a few things against thee, because thou sufferest that woman Jezebel, which calleth herself a
prophetess, to teach and to seduce my servants to commit fornication, and to eat things sacrificed unto idols.
21
And I gave her space to repent of her fornication; and she repented not.
22
Behold, I will cast her into a bed, and them that commit adultery with her into great tribulation, except they repent of
their deeds.
23
And I will kill her children with death; and all the churches shall know that I am he which searcheth the reins and
hearts: and I will give unto every one of you according to your works.
24
But unto you I say, and unto the rest in Thyatira, as many as have not this doctrine, and which have not known the
depths of Satan, as they speak; I will put upon you none other burden.
25
But that which ye have already hold fast till I come.
26
And he that overcometh, and keepeth my works unto the end, to him will I give power over the nations:
27
And he shall rule them with a rod of iron; as the vessels of a potter shall they be broken to shivers: even as I received of
my Father.
28
And I will give him the morning star.
29
He that hath an ear, let him hear what the Spirit saith unto the churches.
Revelation 3
1
And unto the angel of the church in Sardis write; These things saith he that hath the seven Spirits of God, and the seven
stars; I know thy works, that thou hast a name that thou livest, and art dead.
2
Be watchful, and strengthen the things which remain, that are ready to die: for I have not found thy works perfect before
God.
3
Remember therefore how thou hast received and heard, and hold fast, and repent. If therefore thou shalt not watch, I will
come on thee as a thief, and thou shalt not know what hour I will come upon thee.
4
Thou hast a few names even in Sardis which have not defiled their garments; and they shall walk with me in white: for
they are worthy.
5
He that overcometh, the same shall be clothed in white raiment; and I will not blot out his name out of the book of life,
but I will confess his name before my Father, and before his angels.
6
He that hath an ear, let him hear what the Spirit saith unto the churches.
7
And to the angel of the church in Philadelphia write; These things saith he that is holy, he that is true, he that hath the
key of David, he that openeth, and no man shutteth; and shutteth, and no man openeth;
8
I know thy works: behold, I have set before thee an open door, and no man can shut it: for thou hast a little strength, and
hast kept my word, and hast not denied my name.
9
Behold, I will make them of the synagogue of Satan, which say they are Jews, and are not, but do lie; behold, I will
make them to come and worship before thy feet, and to know that I have loved thee.
10
Because thou hast kept the word of my patience, I also will keep thee from the hour of temptation, which shall come
upon all the world, to try them that dwell upon the earth.
11
Behold, I come quickly: hold that fast which thou hast, that no man take thy crown.
12
Him that overcometh will I make a pillar in the temple of my God, and he shall go no more out: and I will write upon
him the name of my God, and the name of the city of my God, which is new Jerusalem, which cometh down out of
heaven from my God: and I will write upon him my new name.
13
He that hath an ear, let him hear what the Spirit saith unto the churches.
14
And unto the angel of the church of the Laodiceans write; These things saith the Amen, the faithful and true witness, the
beginning of the creation of God;
15
I know thy works, that thou art neither cold nor hot: I would thou wert cold or hot.
16
So then because thou art lukewarm, and neither cold nor hot, I will spue thee out of my mouth.
17
Because thou sayest, I am rich, and increased with goods, and have need of nothing; and knowest not that thou art
wretched, and miserable, and poor, and blind, and naked:
18
I counsel thee to buy of me gold tried in the fire, that thou mayest be rich; and white raiment, that thou mayest be
clothed, and thatthe shame of thy nakedness do not appear; and anoint thine eyes with eyesalve, that thou mayest see.
19
As many as I love, I rebuke and chasten: be zealous therefore, and repent.
20
Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup
with him, and he with me.
21
To him that overcometh will I grant to sit with me in my throne, even as I also overcame, and am set down with my
Father in his throne.
22
He that hath an ear, let him hear what the Spirit saith unto the churches.
Revelation 4
1
After this I looked, and, behold, a door was opened in heaven: and the first voice which I heard was as it were of a
trumpet talking with me; which said, Come up hither, and I will shew thee things which must be hereafter.
2
And immediately I was in the spirit: and, behold, a throne was set in heaven, and one sat on the throne.
3
And he that sat was to look upon like a jasper and a sardine stone: and there was a rainbow round about the throne, in
sight like unto an emerald.
4
And round about the throne were four and twenty seats: and upon the seats I saw four and twenty elders sitting, clothed
in white raiment; and they had on their heads crowns of gold.
5
And out of the throne proceeded lightnings and thunderings and voices: and there were seven lamps of fire burning
before the throne, which are the seven Spirits of God.
6
And before the throne there was a sea of glass like unto crystal: and in the midst of the throne, and round about the
throne, were four beasts full of eyes before and behind.
7
And the first beast was like a lion, and the second beast like a calf, and the third beast had a face as a man, and the fourth
beast was like a flying eagle.
8
And the four beasts had each of them six wings about him; and they were full of eyes within: and they rest not day and
night, saying, Holy, holy, holy, Lord God Almighty, which was, and is, and is to come.
9
And when those beasts give glory and honour and thanks to him that sat on the throne, who liveth for ever and ever,
10
The four and twenty elders fall down before him that sat on the throne, and worship him that liveth for ever and ever,
and cast their crowns before the throne, saying,
11
Thou art worthy, O Lord, to receive glory and honour and power: for thou hast created all things, and for thy pleasure
they are and were created.
Revelation 5
1
And I saw in the right hand of him that sat on the throne a book written within and on the backside, sealed with seven
seals.
2
And I saw a strong angel proclaiming with a loud voice, Who is worthy to open the book, and to loose the seals thereof?
3
And no man in heaven, nor in earth, neither under the earth, was able to open the book, neither to look thereon.
4
And I wept much, because no man was found worthy to open and to read the book, neither to look thereon.
5
And one of the elders saith unto me, Weep not: behold, the Lion of the tribe of Juda, the Root of David, hath prevailed
to open the book, and to loose the seven seals thereof.
6
And I beheld, and, lo, in the midst of the throne and of the four beasts, and in the midst of the elders, stood a Lamb as it
had been slain, having seven horns and seven eyes, which are the seven Spirits of God sent forth into all the earth.
7
And he came and took the book out of the right hand of him that sat upon the throne.
8
And when he had taken the book, the four beasts and four and twenty elders fell down before the Lamb, having every
one of them harps, and golden vials full of odours, which are the prayers of saints.
9
And they sung a new song, saying, Thou art worthy to take the book, and to open the seals thereof: for thou wast slain,
and hast redeemed us to God by thy blood out of every kindred, and tongue, and people, and nation;
10
And hast made us unto our God kings and priests: and we shall reign on the earth.
11
And I beheld, and I heard the voice of many angels round about the throne and the beasts and the elders: and the
number of them was ten thousand times ten thousand, and thousands of thousands;
12
Saying with a loud voice, Worthy is the Lamb that was slain to receive power, and riches, and wisdom, and strength,
and honour, and glory, and blessing.
13
And every creature which is in heaven, and on the earth, and under the earth, and such as are in the sea, and all that are
in them, heard I saying, Blessing, and honour, and glory, and power, be unto him that sitteth upon the throne, and unto
the Lamb for ever and ever.
14
And the four beasts said, Amen. And the four and twenty elders fell down and worshipped him that liveth for ever and
ever.
Revelation 6
1
And I saw when the Lamb opened one of the seals, and I heard, as it were the noise of thunder, one of the four beasts
saying, Come and see.
2
And I saw, and behold a white horse: and he that sat on him had a bow; and a crown was given unto him: and he went
forth conquering, and to conquer.
3
And when he had opened the second seal, I heard the second beast say, Come and see.
4
And there went out another horse that was red: and power was given to him that sat thereon to take peace from the earth,
and that they should kill one another: and there was given unto him a great sword.
5
 And when he had opened the third seal, I heard the third beast say, Come and see. And I beheld, and lo a black horse;
and he that sat on him had a pair of balances in his hand.
6
And I heard a voice in the midst of the four beasts say, A measure of wheat for a penny, and three measures of barley for
a penny; and see thou hurt not the oil and the wine.
7
And when he had opened the fourth seal, I heard the voice of the fourth beast say, Come and see.
8
And I looked, and behold a pale horse: and his name that sat on him was Death, and Hell followed with him. And power
was given unto them over the fourth part of the earth, to kill with sword, and with hunger, and with death, and with the
beasts of the earth.
9
And when he had opened the fifth seal, I saw under the altar the souls of them that were slain for the word of God, and
for the testimony which they held:
10
And they cried with a loud voice, saying, How long, O Lord, holy and true, dost thou not judge and avenge our blood
on them that dwell on the earth?
11
And white robes were given unto every one of them; and it was said unto them, that they should rest yet for a little
season, until their fellowservants also and their brethren, that should be killed as they were, should be fulfilled.
12
And I beheld when he had opened the sixth seal, and, lo, there was a great earthquake; and the sun became black as
sackcloth of hair, and the moon became as blood;
13
And the stars of heaven fell unto the earth, even as a fig tree casteth her untimely figs, when she is shaken of a mighty
wind.
14
And the heaven departed as a scroll when it is rolled together; and every mountain and island were moved out of their
places.
15
And the kings of the earth, and the great men, and the rich men, and the chief captains, and the mighty men, and every
bondman, and every free man, hid themselves in the dens and in the rocks of the mountains;
16
And said to the mountains and rocks, Fall on us, and hide us from the face of him that sitteth on the throne, and from
the wrath of the Lamb:
17
For the great day of his wrath is come; and who shall be able to stand?
Revelation 7
1
And after these things I saw four angels standing on the four corners of the earth, holding the four winds of the earth,
that the wind should not blow on the earth, nor on the sea, nor on any tree.
2
And I saw another angel ascending from the east, having the seal of the living God: and he cried with a loud voice to the
four angels, to whom it was given to hurt the earth and the sea,
3
Saying, Hurt not the earth, neither the sea, nor the trees, till we have sealed the servants of our God in their foreheads.
4
And I heard the number of them which were sealed: and there were sealed an hundred and forty and four thousand of all
the tribes of the children of Israel.
5
Of the tribe of Juda were sealed twelve thousand. Of the tribe of Reuben were sealed twelve thousand. Of the tribe of
Gad were sealed twelve thousand.
6
Of the tribe of Aser were sealed twelve thousand. Of the tribe of Nepthalim were sealed twelve thousand. Of the tribe of
Manasses weresealed twelve thousand.
7
Of the tribe of Simeon were sealed twelve thousand. Of the tribe of Levi were sealed twelve thousand. Of the tribe of
Issachar weresealed twelve thousand.
8
Of the tribe of Zabulon were sealed twelve thousand. Of the tribe of Joseph were sealed twelve thousand. Of the tribe of
Benjamin weresealed twelve thousand.
9
After this I beheld, and, lo, a great multitude, which no man could number, of all nations, and kindreds, and people, and
tongues, stood before the throne, and before the Lamb, clothed with white robes, and palms in their hands;
10
And cried with a loud voice, saying, Salvation to our God which sitteth upon the throne, and unto the Lamb.
11
And all the angels stood round about the throne, and about the elders and the four beasts, and fell before the throne on
their faces, and worshipped God,
12
Saying, Amen: Blessing, and glory, and wisdom, and thanksgiving, and honour, and power, and might, be unto our God
for ever and ever. Amen.
13
And one of the elders answered, saying unto me, What are these which are arrayed in white robes? and whence came
they?
14
And I said unto him, Sir, thou knowest. And he said to me, These are they which came out of great tribulation, and have
washed their robes, and made them white in the blood of the Lamb.
15
Therefore are they before the throne of God, and serve him day and night in his temple: and he that sitteth on the throne
shall dwell among them.
16
They shall hunger no more, neither thirst any more; neither shall the sun light on them, nor any heat.
17
For the Lamb which is in the midst of the throne shall feed them, and shall lead them unto living fountains of waters:
and God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes.
Revelation 8
1
And when he had opened the seventh seal, there was silence in heaven about the space of half an hour.
2
And I saw the seven angels which stood before God; and to them were given seven trumpets.
3
And another angel came and stood at the altar, having a golden censer; and there was given unto him much incense, that
he should offer it with the prayers of all saints upon the golden altar which was before the throne.
4
And the smoke of the incense, which came with the prayers of the saints, ascended up before God out of the angel's
hand.
5
And the angel took the censer, and filled it with fire of the altar, and cast it into the earth: and there were voices, and
thunderings, and lightnings, and an earthquake.
6
And the seven angels which had the seven trumpets prepared themselves to sound.
7
The first angel sounded, and there followed hail and fire mingled with blood, and they were cast upon the earth: and the
third part of trees was burnt up, and all green grass was burnt up.
8
And the second angel sounded, and as it were a great mountain burning with fire was cast into the sea: and the third part
of the sea became blood;
9
And the third part of the creatures which were in the sea, and had life, died; and the third part of the ships were
destroyed.
10
And the third angel sounded, and there fell a great star from heaven, burning as it were a lamp, and it fell upon the third
part of the rivers, and upon the fountains of waters;
11
And the name of the star is called Wormwood: and the third part of the waters became wormwood; and many men died
of the waters, because they were made bitter.
12
And the fourth angel sounded, and the third part of the sun was smitten, and the third part of the moon, and the third
part of the stars; so as the third part of them was darkened, and the day shone not for a third part of it, and the night
likewise.
13
And I beheld, and heard an angel flying through the midst of heaven, saying with a loud voice, Woe, woe, woe, to the
inhabiters of the earth by reason of the other voices of the trumpet of the three angels, which are yet to sound!
Revelation 9
1
And the fifth angel sounded, and I saw a star fall from heaven unto the earth: and to him was given the key of the
bottomless pit.
2
And he opened the bottomless pit; and there arose a smoke out of the pit, as the smoke of a great furnace; and the sun
and the air were darkened by reason of the smoke of the pit.
3
And there came out of the smoke locusts upon the earth: and unto them was given power, as the scorpions of the earth
have power.
4
 And it was commanded them that they should not hurt the grass of the earth, neither any green thing, neither any tree;
but only those men which have not the seal of God in their foreheads.
5
And to them it was given that they should not kill them, but that they should be tormented five months: and their
torment was as the torment of a scorpion, when he striketh a man.
6
And in those days shall men seek death, and shall not find it; and shall desire to die, and death shall flee from them.
7
And the shapes of the locusts were like unto horses prepared unto battle; and on their heads were as it were crowns like
gold, and their faces were as the faces of men.
8
And they had hair as the hair of women, and their teeth were as the teeth of lions.
9
And they had breastplates, as it were breastplates of iron; and the sound of their wings was as the sound of chariots of
many horses running to battle.
10
And they had tails like unto scorpions, and there were stings in their tails: and their power was to hurt men five months.
11
And they had a king over them, which is the angel of the bottomless pit, whose name in the Hebrew tongue is Abaddon,
but in the Greek tongue hath his name Apollyon.
12
One woe is past; and, behold, there come two woes more hereafter.
13
And the sixth angel sounded, and I heard a voice from the four horns of the golden altar which is before God,
14
Saying to the sixth angel which had the trumpet, Loose the four angels which are bound in the great river Euphrates.
15
And the four angels were loosed, which were prepared for an hour, and a day, and a month, and a year, for to slay the
third part of men.
16
And the number of the army of the horsemen were two hundred thousand thousand: and I heard the number of them.
17
And thus I saw the horses in the vision, and them that sat on them, having breastplates of fire, and of jacinth, and
brimstone: and the heads of the horses were as the heads of lions; and out of their mouths issued fire and smoke and
brimstone.
18
By these three was the third part of men killed, by the fire, and by the smoke, and by the brimstone, which issued out of
their mouths.
19
For their power is in their mouth, and in their tails: for their tails were like unto serpents, and had heads, and with them
they do hurt.
20
And the rest of the men which were not killed by these plagues yet repented not of the works of their hands, that they
should not worship devils, and idols of gold, and silver, and brass, and stone, and of wood: which neither can see, nor
hear, nor walk:
21
Neither repented they of their murders, nor of their sorceries, nor of their fornication, nor of their thefts.
Revelation 10
1
And I saw another mighty angel come down from heaven, clothed with a cloud: and a rainbow was upon his head, and
his face was as it were the sun, and his feet as pillars of fire:
2
And he had in his hand a little book open: and he set his right foot upon the sea, and his left foot on the earth,
3
And cried with a loud voice, as when a lion roareth: and when he had cried, seven thunders uttered their voices.
4
And when the seven thunders had uttered their voices, I was about to write: and I heard a voice from heaven saying unto
me, Seal up those things which the seven thunders uttered, and write them not.
5
And the angel which I saw stand upon the sea and upon the earth lifted up his hand to heaven,
6
And sware by him that liveth for ever and ever, who created heaven, and the things that therein are, and the earth, and
the things that therein are, and the sea, and the things which are therein, that there should be time no longer:
7
But in the days of the voice of the seventh angel, when he shall begin to sound, the mystery of God should be finished,
as he hath declared to his servants the prophets.
8
And the voice which I heard from heaven spake unto me again, and said, Go and take the little book which is open in the
hand of the angel which standeth upon the sea and upon the earth.
9
And I went unto the angel, and said unto him, Give me the little book. And he said unto me, Take it, and eat it up; and it
shall make thy belly bitter, but it shall be in thy mouth sweet as honey.
10
And I took the little book out of the angel's hand, and ate it up; and it was in my mouth sweet as honey: and as soon as I
had eaten it, my belly was bitter.
11
And he said unto me, Thou must prophesy again before many peoples, and nations, and tongues, and kings.
Revelation 11
1
And there was given me a reed like unto a rod: and the angel stood, saying, Rise, and measure the temple of God, and
the altar, and them that worship therein.
2
But the court which is without the temple leave out, and measure it not; for it is given unto the Gentiles: and the holy
city shall they tread under foot forty and two months.
3
And I will give power unto my two witnesses, and they shall prophesy a thousand two hundred and threescore days,
clothed in sackcloth.
4
These are the two olive trees, and the two candlesticks standing before the God of the earth.
5
And if any man will hurt them, fire proceedeth out of their mouth, and devoureth their enemies: and if any man will hurt
them, he must in this manner be killed.
6
These have power to shut heaven, that it rain not in the days of their prophecy: and have power over waters to turn them
to blood, and to smite the earth with all plagues, as often as they will.
7
And when they shall have finished their testimony, the beast that ascendeth out of the bottomless pit shall make war
against them, and shall overcome them, and kill them.
8
And their dead bodies shall lie in the street of the great city, which spiritually is called Sodom and Egypt, where also our
Lord was crucified.
9
And they of the people and kindreds and tongues and nations shall see their dead bodies three days and an half, and shall
not suffer their dead bodies to be put in graves.
10
And they that dwell upon the earth shall rejoice over them, and make merry, and shall send gifts one to another; because
these two prophets tormented them that dwelt on the earth.
11
And after three days and an half the Spirit of life from God entered into them, and they stood upon their feet; and great
fear fell upon them which saw them.
12
And they heard a great voice from heaven saying unto them, Come up hither. And they ascended up to heaven in a
cloud; and their enemies beheld them.
13
And the same hour was there a great earthquake, and the tenth part of the city fell, and in the earthquake were slain of
men seven thousand: and the remnant were affrighted, and gave glory to the God of heaven.
14
The second woe is past; and, behold, the third woe cometh quickly.
15
And the seventh angel sounded; and there were great voices in heaven, saying, The kingdoms of this world are
become the kingdomsof our Lord, and of his Christ; and he shall reign for ever and ever.
16
And the four and twenty elders, which sat before God on their seats, fell upon their faces, and worshipped God,
17
Saying, We give thee thanks, O Lord God Almighty, which art, and wast, and art to come; because thou hast taken to
thee thy great power, and hast reigned.
18
And the nations were angry, and thy wrath is come, and the time of the dead, that they should be judged, and that thou
shouldest give reward unto thy servants the prophets, and to the saints, and them that fear thy name, small and great;
and shouldest destroy them which destroy the earth.
19
And the temple of God was opened in heaven, and there was seen in his temple the ark of his testament: and there were
lightnings, and voices, and thunderings, and an earthquake, and great hail.
Revelation 12
1
And there appeared a great wonder in heaven; a woman clothed with the sun, and the moon under her feet, and upon her
head a crown of twelve stars:
2
And she being with child cried, travailing in birth, and pained to be delivered.
3
And there appeared another wonder in heaven; and behold a great red dragon, having seven heads and ten horns, and
seven crowns upon his heads.
4
And his tail drew the third part of the stars of heaven, and did cast them to the earth: and the dragon stood before the
woman which was ready to be delivered, for to devour her child as soon as it was born.
5
And she brought forth a man child, who was to rule all nations with a rod of iron: and her child was caught up unto God,
and to his throne.
6
And the woman fled into the wilderness, where she hath a place prepared of God, that they should feed her there a
thousand two hundred and threescore days.
7
And there was war in heaven: Michael and his angels fought against the dragon; and the dragon fought and his angels,
8
And prevailed not; neither was their place found any more in heaven.
9
And the great dragon was cast out, that old serpent, called the Devil, and Satan, which deceiveth the whole world: he
was cast out into the earth, and his angels were cast out with him.
10
And I heard a loud voice saying in heaven, Now is come salvation, and strength, and the kingdom of our God, and the
power of his Christ: for the accuser of our brethren is cast down, which accused them before our God day and night.
11
And they overcame him by the blood of the Lamb, and by the word of their testimony; and they loved not their lives
unto the death.
12
Therefore rejoice, ye heavens, and ye that dwell in them. Woe to the inhabiters of the earth and of the sea! for the devil
is come down unto you, having great wrath, because he knoweth that he hath but a short time.
13
And when the dragon saw that he was cast unto the earth, he persecuted the woman which brought forth the man child.
14
And to the woman were given two wings of a great eagle, that she might fly into the wilderness, into her place, where
she is nourished for a time, and times, and half a time, from the face of the serpent.
15
And the serpent cast out of his mouth water as a flood after the woman, that he might cause her to be carried away of
the flood.
16
And the earth helped the woman, and the earth opened her mouth, and swallowed up the flood which the dragon cast
out of his mouth.
17
And the dragon was wroth with the woman, and went to make war with the remnant of her seed, which keep the
commandments of God, and have the testimony of Jesus Christ.
Revelation 13
1
And I stood upon the sand of the sea, and saw a beast rise up out of the sea, having seven heads and ten horns, and upon
his horns ten crowns, and upon his heads the name of blasphemy.
2
And the beast which I saw was like unto a leopard, and his feet were as the feet of a bear, and his mouth as the mouth of
a lion: and the dragon gave him his power, and his seat, and great authority.
3
And I saw one of his heads as it were wounded to death; and his deadly wound was healed: and all the world wondered
after the beast.
4
And they worshipped the dragon which gave power unto the beast: and they worshipped the beast, saying, Who is like
unto the beast? who is able to make war with him?
5
And there was given unto him a mouth speaking great things and blasphemies; and power was given unto him to
continue forty and two months.
6
And he opened his mouth in blasphemy against God, to blaspheme his name, and his tabernacle, and them that dwell in
heaven.
7
And it was given unto him to make war with the saints, and to overcome them: and power was given him over all
kindreds, and tongues, and nations.
8
And all that dwell upon the earth shall worship him, whose names are not written in the book of life of the Lamb slain
from the foundation of the world.
9
If any man have an ear, let him hear.
10
He that leadeth into captivity shall go into captivity: he that killeth with the sword must be killed with the sword. Here
is the patience and the faith of the saints.
11
And I beheld another beast coming up out of the earth; and he had two horns like a lamb, and he spake as a dragon.
12
And he exerciseth all the power of the first beast before him, and causeth the earth and them which dwell therein to
worship the first beast, whose deadly wound was healed.
13
And he doeth great wonders, so that he maketh fire come down from heaven on the earth in the sight of men,
14
And deceiveth them that dwell on the earth by the means of those miracles which he had power to do in the sight of the
beast; saying to them that dwell on the earth, that they should make an image to the beast, which had the wound by a
sword, and did live.
15
And he had power to give life unto the image of the beast, that the image of the beast should both speak, and cause that
as many as would not worship the image of the beast should be killed.
16
And he causeth all, both small and great, rich and poor, free and bond, to receive a mark in their right hand, or in their
foreheads:
17
And that no man might buy or sell, save he that had the mark, or the name of the beast, or the number of his name.
18
Here is wisdom. Let him that hath understanding count the number of the beast: for it is the number of a man; and his
number is Six hundred threescore and six.
Revelation 14
1
And I looked, and, lo, a Lamb stood on the mount Zion, and with him an hundred forty and four thousand, having his
Father's name written in their foreheads.
2
And I heard a voice from heaven, as the voice of many waters, and as the voice of a great thunder: and I heard the voice
of harpers harping with their harps:
3
And they sung as it were a new song before the throne, and before the four beasts, and the elders: and no man could
learn that song but the hundred and forty and four thousand, which were redeemed from the earth.
4
These are they which were not defiled with women; for they are virgins. These are they which follow the Lamb
whithersoever he goeth. These were redeemed from among men, being the firstfruits unto God and to the Lamb.
5
And in their mouth was found no guile: for they are without fault before the throne of God.
6
And I saw another angel fly in the midst of heaven, having the everlasting gospel to preach unto them that dwell on the
earth, and to every nation, and kindred, and tongue, and people,
7
Saying with a loud voice, Fear God, and give glory to him; for the hour of his judgment is come: and worship him that
made heaven, and earth, and the sea, and the fountains of waters.
8
And there followed another angel, saying, Babylon is fallen, is fallen, that great city, because she made all nations drink
of the wine of the wrath of her fornication.
9
And the third angel followed them, saying with a loud voice, If any man worship the beast and his image, and
receive his mark in his forehead, or in his hand,
10
The same shall drink of the wine of the wrath of God, which is poured out without mixture into the cup of his
indignation; and he shall be tormented with fire and brimstone in the presence of the holy angels, and in the presence
of the Lamb:
11
And the smoke of their torment ascendeth up for ever and ever: and they have no rest day nor night, who worship the
beast and his image, and whosoever receiveth the mark of his name.
12
Here is the patience of the saints: here are they that keep the commandments of God, and the faith of Jesus.
13
And I heard a voice from heaven saying unto me, Write, Blessed are the dead which die in the Lord from henceforth:
Yea, saith the Spirit, that they may rest from their labours; and their works do follow them.
14
And I looked, and behold a white cloud, and upon the cloud one sat like unto the Son of man, having on his head a
golden crown, and in his hand a sharp sickle.
15
And another angel came out of the temple, crying with a loud voice to him that sat on the cloud, Thrust in thy sickle,
and reap: for the time is come for thee to reap; for the harvest of the earth is ripe.
16
And he that sat on the cloud thrust in his sickle on the earth; and the earth was reaped.
17
And another angel came out of the temple which is in heaven, he also having a sharp sickle.
18
And another angel came out from the altar, which had power over fire; and cried with a loud cry to him that had the
sharp sickle, saying, Thrust in thy sharp sickle, and gather the clusters of the vine of the earth; for her grapes are fully
ripe.
19
And the angel thrust in his sickle into the earth, and gathered the vine of the earth, and cast it into the great winepress of
the wrath of God.
20
And the winepress was trodden without the city, and blood came out of the winepress, even unto the horse bridles, by
the space of a thousand and six hundred furlongs.
Revelation 15
1
And I saw another sign in heaven, great and marvellous, seven angels having the seven last plagues; for in them is filled
up the wrath of God.
2
And I saw as it were a sea of glass mingled with fire: and them that had gotten the victory over the beast, and over his
image, and over his mark, and over the number of his name, stand on the sea of glass, having the harps of God.
3
And they sing the song of Moses the servant of God, and the song of the Lamb, saying, Great and marvellous are thy
works, Lord God Almighty; just and true are thy ways, thou King of saints.
4
Who shall not fear thee, O Lord, and glorify thy name? for thou only art holy: for all nations shall come and worship
before thee; for thy judgments are made manifest.
5
And after that I looked, and, behold, the temple of the tabernacle of the testimony in heaven was opened:
6
And the seven angels came out of the temple, having the seven plagues, clothed in pure and white linen, and having their
breasts girded with golden girdles.
7
And one of the four beasts gave unto the seven angels seven golden vials full of the wrath of God, who liveth for ever
and ever.
8
And the temple was filled with smoke from the glory of God, and from his power; and no man was able to enter into the
temple, till the seven plagues of the seven angels were fulfilled.
Revelation 16
1
And I heard a great voice out of the temple saying to the seven angels, Go your ways, and pour out the vials of the wrath
of God upon the earth.
2
And the first went, and poured out his vial upon the earth; and there fell a noisome and grievous sore upon the men
which had the mark of the beast, and upon them which worshipped his image.
3
And the second angel poured out his vial upon the sea; and it became as the blood of a dead man: and every living soul
died in the sea.
4
And the third angel poured out his vial upon the rivers and fountains of waters; and they became blood.
5
And I heard the angel of the waters say, Thou art righteous, O Lord, which art, and wast, and shalt be, because thou hast
judged thus.
6
For they have shed the blood of saints and prophets, and thou hast given them blood to drink; for they are worthy.
7
And I heard another out of the altar say, Even so, Lord God Almighty, true and righteous are thy judgments.
8
And the fourth angel poured out his vial upon the sun; and power was given unto him to scorch men with fire.
9
And men were scorched with great heat, and blasphemed the name of God, which hath power over these plagues: and
they repented not to give him glory.
10
And the fifth angel poured out his vial upon the seat of the beast; and his kingdom was full of darkness; and they
gnawed their tongues for pain,
11
And blasphemed the God of heaven because of their pains and their sores, and repented not of their deeds.
12
And the sixth angel poured out his vial upon the great river Euphrates; and the water thereof was dried up, that the way
of the kings of the east might be prepared.
13
And I saw three unclean spirits like frogs come out of the mouth of the dragon, and out of the mouth of the beast, and
out of the mouth of the false prophet.
14
For they are the spirits of devils, working miracles, which go forth unto the kings of the earth and of the whole world, to
gather them to the battle of that great day of God Almighty.
15
Behold, I come as a thief. Blessed is he that watcheth, and keepeth his garments, lest he walk naked, and they see his
shame.
16
And he gathered them together into a place called in the Hebrew tongue Armageddon.
17
And the seventh angel poured out his vial into the air; and there came a great voice out of the temple of heaven, from
the throne, saying, It is done.
18
And there were voices, and thunders, and lightnings; and there was a great earthquake, such as was not since men were
upon the earth, so mighty an earthquake, and so great.
19
And the great city was divided into three parts, and the cities of the nations fell: and great Babylon came in
remembrance before God, to give unto her the cup of the wine of the fierceness of his wrath.
20
And every island fled away, and the mountains were not found.
21
And there fell upon men a great hail out of heaven, every stone about the weight of a talent: and men blasphemed God
because of the plague of the hail; for the plague thereof was exceeding great.
Revelation 17
1
And there came one of the seven angels which had the seven vials, and talked with me, saying unto me, Come hither; I
will shew unto thee the judgment of the great whore that sitteth upon many waters:
2
With whom the kings of the earth have committed fornication, and the inhabitants of the earth have been made drunk
with the wine of her fornication.
3
So he carried me away in the spirit into the wilderness: and I saw a woman sit upon a scarlet coloured beast, full of
names of blasphemy, having seven heads and ten horns.
4
And the woman was arrayed in purple and scarlet colour, and decked with gold and precious stones and pearls, having a
golden cup in her hand full of abominations and filthiness of her fornication:
5
And upon her forehead was a name written, MYSTERY, BABYLON THE GREAT, THE MOTHER OF HARLOTS
AND ABOMINATIONS OF THE EARTH.
6
And I saw the woman drunken with the blood of the saints, and with the blood of the martyrs of Jesus: and when I saw
her, I wondered with great admiration.
7
And the angel said unto me, Wherefore didst thou marvel? I will tell thee the mystery of the woman, and of the beast
that carrieth her, which hath the seven heads and ten horns.
8
The beast that thou sawest was, and is not; and shall ascend out of the bottomless pit, and go into perdition: and they that
dwell on the earth shall wonder, whose names were not written in the book of life from the foundation of the world,
when they behold the beast that was, and is not, and yet is.
9
And here is the mind which hath wisdom. The seven heads are seven mountains, on which the woman sitteth.
10
And there are seven kings: five are fallen, and one is, and the other is not yet come; and when he cometh, he must
continue a short space.
11
And the beast that was, and is not, even he is the eighth, and is of the seven, and goeth into perdition.
12
And the ten horns which thou sawest are ten kings, which have received no kingdom as yet; but receive power as kings
one hour with the beast.
13
These have one mind, and shall give their power and strength unto the beast.
14
These shall make war with the Lamb, and the Lamb shall overcome them: for he is Lord of lords, and King of kings:
and they that are with him are called, and chosen, and faithful.
15
And he saith unto me, The waters which thou sawest, where the whore sitteth, are peoples, and multitudes, and nations,
and tongues.
16
And the ten horns which thou sawest upon the beast, these shall hate the whore, and shall make her desolate and naked,
and shall eat her flesh, and burn her with fire.
17
For God hath put in their hearts to fulfil his will, and to agree, and give their kingdom unto the beast, until the words of
God shall be fulfilled.
18
And the woman which thou sawest is that great city, which reigneth over the kings of the earth.
Revelation 18
1
And after these things I saw another angel come down from heaven, having great power; and the earth was lightened
with his glory.
2
And he cried mightily with a strong voice, saying, Babylon the great is fallen, is fallen, and is become the habitation of
devils, and the hold of every foul spirit, and a cage of every unclean and hateful bird.
3
For all nations have drunk of the wine of the wrath of her fornication, and the kings of the earth have committed
fornication with her, and the merchants of the earth are waxed rich through the abundance of her delicacies.
4
And I heard another voice from heaven, saying, Come out of her, my people, that ye be not partakers of her sins, and
that ye receive not of her plagues.
5
For her sins have reached unto heaven, and God hath remembered her iniquities.
6
Reward her even as she rewarded you, and double unto her double according to her works: in the cup which she hath
filled fill to her double.
7
How much she hath glorified herself, and lived deliciously, so much torment and sorrow give her: for she saith in her
heart, I sit a queen, and am no widow, and shall see no sorrow.
8
Therefore shall her plagues come in one day, death, and mourning, and famine; and she shall be utterly burned with fire:
for strong is the Lord God who judgeth her.
9
And the kings of the earth, who have committed fornication and lived deliciously with her, shall bewail her, and lament
for her, when they shall see the smoke of her burning,
10
Standing afar off for the fear of her torment, saying, Alas, alas, that great city Babylon, that mighty city! for in one hour
is thy judgment come.
11
And the merchants of the earth shall weep and mourn over her; for no man buyeth their merchandise any more:
12
The merchandise of gold, and silver, and precious stones, and of pearls, and fine linen, and purple, and silk, and scarlet,
and all thyine wood, and all manner vessels of ivory, and all manner vessels of most precious wood, and of brass, and
iron, and marble,
13
And cinnamon, and odours, and ointments, and frankincense, and wine, and oil, and fine flour, and wheat, and beasts,
and sheep, and horses, and chariots, and slaves, and souls of men.
14
And the fruits that thy soul lusted after are departed from thee, and all things which were dainty and goodly are
departed from thee, and thou shalt find them no more at all.
15
The merchants of these things, which were made rich by her, shall stand afar off for the fear of her torment, weeping
and wailing,
16
And saying, Alas, alas, that great city, that was clothed in fine linen, and purple, and scarlet, and decked with gold, and
precious stones, and pearls!
17
For in one hour so great riches is come to nought. And every shipmaster, and all the company in ships, and sailors, and
as many as trade by sea, stood afar off,
18
And cried when they saw the smoke of her burning, saying, What city is like unto this great city!
19
And they cast dust on their heads, and cried, weeping and wailing, saying, Alas, alas, that great city, wherein were made
rich all that had ships in the sea by reason of her costliness! for in one hour is she made desolate.
20
Rejoice over her, thou heaven, and ye holy apostles and prophets; for God hath avenged you on her.
21
And a mighty angel took up a stone like a great millstone, and cast it into the sea, saying, Thus with violence shall that
great city Babylon be thrown down, and shall be found no more at all.
22
And the voice of harpers, and musicians, and of pipers, and trumpeters, shall be heard no more at all in thee; and no
craftsman, of whatsoever craft he be, shall be found any more in thee; and the sound of a millstone shall be heard no
more at all in thee;
23
And the light of a candle shall shine no more at all in thee; and the voice of the bridegroom and of the bride shall be
heard no more at all in thee: for thy merchants were the great men of the earth; for by thy sorceries were all nations
deceived.
24
And in her was found the blood of prophets, and of saints, and of all that were slain upon the earth.
Revelation 19
1
And after these things I heard a great voice of much people in heaven, saying, Alleluia; Salvation, and glory, and
honour, and power, unto the Lord our God:
2
For true and righteous are his judgments: for he hath judged the great whore, which did corrupt the earth with her
fornication, and hath avenged the blood of his servants at her hand.
3
And again they said, Alleluia. And her smoke rose up for ever and ever.
4
 And the four and twenty elders and the four beasts fell down and worshipped God that sat on the throne, saying, Amen;
Alleluia.
5
And a voice came out of the throne, saying, Praise our God, all ye his servants, and ye that fear him, both small and
great.
6
And I heard as it were the voice of a great multitude, and as the voice of many waters, and as the voice of mighty
thunderings, saying, Alleluia: for the Lord God omnipotent reigneth.
7
Let us be glad and rejoice, and give honour to him: for the marriage of the Lamb is come, and his wife hath made herself
ready.
8
And to her was granted that she should be arrayed in fine linen, clean and white: for the fine linen is the righteousness of
saints.
9
And he saith unto me, Write, Blessed are they which are called unto the marriage supper of the Lamb. And he saith unto
me, These are the true sayings of God.
10
And I fell at his feet to worship him. And he said unto me, See thou do it not: I am thy fellowservant, and of thy
brethren that have the testimony of Jesus: worship God: for the testimony of Jesus is the spirit of prophecy.
11
And I saw heaven opened, and behold a white horse; and he that sat upon him was called Faithful and True, and in
righteousness he doth judge and make war.
12
His eyes were as a flame of fire, and on his head were many crowns; and he had a name written, that no man knew, but
he himself.
13
And he was clothed with a vesture dipped in blood: and his name is called The Word of God.
14
And the armies which were in heaven followed him upon white horses, clothed in fine linen, white and clean.
15
And out of his mouth goeth a sharp sword, that with it he should smite the nations: and he shall rule them with a rod of
iron: and he treadeth the winepress of the fierceness and wrath of Almighty God.
16
And he hath on his vesture and on his thigh a name written, KING OF KINGS, AND LORD OF LORDS.
17
And I saw an angel standing in the sun; and he cried with a loud voice, saying to all the fowls that fly in the midst of
heaven, Come and gather yourselves together unto the supper of the great God;
18
That ye may eat the flesh of kings, and the flesh of captains, and the flesh of mighty men, and the flesh of horses, and of
them that sit on them, and the flesh of all men, both free and bond, both small and great.
19
And I saw the beast, and the kings of the earth, and their armies, gathered together to make war against him that sat on
the horse, and against his army.
20
And the beast was taken, and with him the false prophet that wrought miracles before him, with which he deceived
them that had received the mark of the beast, and them that worshipped his image. These both were cast alive into a
lake of fire burning with brimstone.
21
And the remnant were slain with the sword of him that sat upon the horse, which sword proceeded out of his mouth:
and all the fowls were filled with their flesh.
Revelation 20
1
And I saw an angel come down from heaven, having the key of the bottomless pit and a great chain in his hand.
2
And he laid hold on the dragon, that old serpent, which is the Devil, and Satan, and bound him a thousand years,
3
And cast him into the bottomless pit, and shut him up, and set a seal upon him, that he should deceive the nations no
more, till the thousand years should be fulfilled: and after that he must be loosed a little season.
4
And I saw thrones, and they sat upon them, and judgment was given unto them: and I saw the souls of them that were
beheaded for the witness of Jesus, and for the word of God, and which had not worshipped the beast, neither his image,
neither had received his mark upon their foreheads, or in their hands; and they lived and reigned with Christ a thousand
years.
5
But the rest of the dead lived not again until the thousand years were finished. This is the first resurrection.
6
Blessed and holy is he that hath part in the first resurrection: on such the second death hath no power, but they shall be
priests of God and of Christ, and shall reign with him a thousand years.
7
And when the thousand years are expired, Satan shall be loosed out of his prison,
8
And shall go out to deceive the nations which are in the four quarters of the earth, Gog and Magog, to gather them
together to battle: the number of whom is as the sand of the sea.
9
And they went up on the breadth of the earth, and compassed the camp of the saints about, and the beloved city: and fire
came down from God out of heaven, and devoured them.
10
And the devil that deceived them was cast into the lake of fire and brimstone, where the beast and the false prophet are,
and shall be tormented day and night for ever and ever.
11
And I saw a great white throne, and him that sat on it, from whose face the earth and the heaven fled away; and there
was found no place for them.
12
And I saw the dead, small and great, stand before God; and the books were opened: and another book was opened,
which is the bookof life: and the dead were judged out of those things which were written in the books, according to
their works.
13
And the sea gave up the dead which were in it; and death and hell delivered up the dead which were in them: and they
were judged every man according to their works.
14
And death and hell were cast into the lake of fire. This is the second death.
15
And whosoever was not found written in the book of life was cast into the lake of fire.
Revelation 21
1
And I saw a new heaven and a new earth: for the first heaven and the first earth were passed away; and there was no
more sea.
2
And I John saw the holy city, new Jerusalem, coming down from God out of heaven, prepared as a bride adorned for her
husband.
3
And I heard a great voice out of heaven saying, Behold, the tabernacle of God is with men, and he will dwell with them,
and they shall be his people, and God himself shall be with them, and be their God.
4
And God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes; and there shall be no more death, neither sorrow, nor crying, neither
shall there be any more pain: for the former things are passed away.
5
And he that sat upon the throne said, Behold, I make all things new. And he said unto me, Write: for these words are
true and faithful.
6
And he said unto me, It is done. I am Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the end. I will give unto him that is athirst of
the fountain of the water of life freely.
7
He that overcometh shall inherit all things; and I will be his God, and he shall be my son.
8
But the fearful, and unbelieving, and the abominable, and murderers, and whoremongers, and sorcerers, and idolaters,
and all liars, shall have their part in the lake which burneth with fire and brimstone: which is the second death.
9
And there came unto me one of the seven angels which had the seven vials full of the seven last plagues, and talked with
me, saying, Come hither, I will shew thee the bride, the Lamb's wife.
10
And he carried me away in the spirit to a great and high mountain, and shewed me that great city, the holy Jerusalem,
descending out of heaven from God,
11
 Having the glory of God: and her light was like unto a stone most precious, even like a jasper stone, clear as crystal;
12
And had a wall great and high, and had twelve gates, and at the gates twelve angels, and names written thereon, which
are the namesof the twelve tribes of the children of Israel:
13
On the east three gates; on the north three gates; on the south three gates; and on the west three gates.
14
And the wall of the city had twelve foundations, and in them the names of the twelve apostles of the Lamb.
15
And he that talked with me had a golden reed to measure the city, and the gates thereof, and the wall thereof.
16
And the city lieth foursquare, and the length is as large as the breadth: and he measured the city with the reed, twelve
thousand furlongs. The length and the breadth and the height of it are equal.
17
And he measured the wall thereof, an hundred and forty and four cubits, according to the measure of a man, that is, of
the angel.
18
And the building of the wall of it was of jasper: and the city was pure gold, like unto clear glass.
19
And the foundations of the wall of the city were garnished with all manner of precious stones. The first
foundation was jasper; the second, sapphire; the third, a chalcedony; the fourth, an emerald;
20
The fifth, sardonyx; the sixth, sardius; the seventh, chrysolite; the eighth, beryl; the ninth, a topaz; the tenth, a
chrysoprasus; the eleventh, a jacinth; the twelfth, an amethyst.
21
And the twelve gates were twelve pearls; every several gate was of one pearl: and the street of the city was pure gold, as
it were transparent glass.
22
And I saw no temple therein: for the Lord God Almighty and the Lamb are the temple of it.
23
And the city had no need of the sun, neither of the moon, to shine in it: for the glory of God did lighten it, and the
Lamb is the light thereof.
24
And the nations of them which are saved shall walk in the light of it: and the kings of the earth do bring their glory and
honour into it.
25
And the gates of it shall not be shut at all by day: for there shall be no night there.
26
And they shall bring the glory and honour of the nations into it.
27
And there shall in no wise enter into it any thing that defileth, neither whatsoever worketh abomination, or maketh a lie:
but they which are written in the Lamb's book of life.
Revelation 22
1
And he shewed me a pure river of water of life, clear as crystal, proceeding out of the throne of God and of the Lamb.
2
In the midst of the street of it, and on either side of the river, was there the tree of life, which bare twelve manner
of fruits, and yielded her fruit every month: and the leaves of the tree were for the healing of the nations.
3
And there shall be no more curse: but the throne of God and of the Lamb shall be in it; and his servants shall serve him:
4
And they shall see his face; and his name shall be in their foreheads.
5
And there shall be no night there; and they need no candle, neither light of the sun; for the Lord God giveth them light:
and they shall reign for ever and ever.
6
And he said unto me, These sayings are faithful and true: and the Lord God of the holy prophets sent his angel to shew
unto his servants the things which must shortly be done.
7
Behold, I come quickly: blessed is he that keepeth the sayings of the prophecy of this book.
8
And I John saw these things, and heard them. And when I had heard and seen, I fell down to worship before the feet of
the angel which shewed me these things.
9
Then saith he unto me, See thou do it not: for I am thy fellowservant, and of thy brethren the prophets, and of them
which keep the sayings of this book: worship God.
10
And he saith unto me, Seal not the sayings of the prophecy of this book: for the time is at hand.
11
He that is unjust, let him be unjust still: and he which is filthy, let him be filthy still: and he that is righteous, let him be
righteous still: and he that is holy, let him be holy still.
12
And, behold, I come quickly; and my reward is with me, to give every man according as his work shall be.
13
I am Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the end, the first and the last.
14
Blessed are they that do his commandments, that they may have right to the tree of life, and may enter in through the
gates into the city.
15
For without are dogs, and sorcerers, and whoremongers, and murderers, and idolaters, and whosoever loveth and
maketh a lie.
16
I Jesus have sent mine angel to testify unto you these things in the churches. I am the root and the offspring of
David, and the bright and morning star.
17
And the Spirit and the bride say, Come. And let him that heareth say, Come. And let him that is athirst come. And
whosoever will, let him take the water of life freely.
18
For I testify unto every man that heareth the words of the prophecy of this book, If any man shall add unto these things,
God shall add unto him the plagues that are written in this book:
19
And if any man shall take away from the words of the book of this prophecy, God shall take away his part out of the
book of life, and out of the holy city, and from the things which are written in this book.
20
He which testifieth these things saith, Surely I come quickly. Amen. Even so, come, Lord Jesus.
21
The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you all. Amen.
