RESOURCE DESCRIPTION
Give a brief description of the technology/resource.
History in motion allows students to model different historical events. Using simple tools, that allow
students can place lines, shapes and markers at specific dates. This can allow students to mark different
historical events, and show their relations to each other in a fun, informative ways. It allows for accurate
simulation of inter-related historical events.

INTEGRATION IDEA - COLLABORATION

How might you integrate this resource in a lesson plan to promote collaboration among students in your
classroom, or among students and others outside of the classroom?
Students could work in groups to create a single timeline, with one student focusing on the where,
another focusing on the when, and a final student focusing on constructing the timeline. This could be
done for a number of historical events in the 8th grade curriculum, such as outlining the route of interned
Japanese Americans (Grade 8 Arizona Social Studies Standard: Strand 1, Concept 8, PO 4, E). Another
possible way that this source could be used collaboratively, is that students could each select a famous
WWII leader, and show some off their important accomplishments, as well as the time that they
occurred, on such a time line. Each of these timelines would be combined, to show the accomplishments
of all of the leaders, and how they were interrelated (Grade 8 Arizona Social Studies Standard: Strand 1,
Concept 8, PO 7).

VALUE-ADDED EXPLANATION

Based on the value-added rating scale above, how would you rate the technology integration
you described, using the selected resource?
Explain your rating based on the rubric indicators.

I feel that History in Motion is between a 2 and a 3. The technology aligns to the content standards.
History in Motion only enhances a lesson. All of the concepts in History in Motion (e.g. date, time and
inter-relation of events) can be taught in other ways (e.g. traditional timelines, graphic organizers,
lecture). However, it would enhance the lesson and by creating in an engaging way, it would support
mastery of the concepts, making it a 2 on the value added scale. Because History in Motion allows
students to create, rather than just record, students will create and be engaged in the assignment. This
earns it a 3 on the value added scale.
