A report of the building survey carried out on the Faculty of Technology, Obafemi
Awolowo university.

The Survey was carried out on the Faculty of Technology and the buildings around it
environs (PTDF, INTECU, Computer building) by the students of BLD 306 class.

Name of the building

The name of the buildings are Faculty of Technology, INTECU building, PTDF
building, Computer building with the INTECU building having a main building and an
annex. It is owned by the Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife. It has a tenancy of
99years as each of the federal government buildings in Nigeria.
Location of the buildings
The buildings are located at Ile-Ife, inside the Obafemi Awolowo University, IleIfe, Osun State.
Date of Inspection
The inspection was carried out on the 16th of November 2015 and completed on
the 21st of November 2015. The group were able to encompass the whole buildings on
the 16th with the survey of the electrical, mechanical and structural defects, while the
paint works were calculated on the 21st.

The Nature of the Building

The Faculty of Technology building is a 3-storey building with 3 staircases with
one at each and one at the middle with 8 toilets a5 each end. It measures 80.90 x 11.45 x
15.20m. It is rectangular in shape with a corridor at the front of the building. The building

has fire services (fire alarms, fire extinguishers), electrical services (electric bulbs,
electric sockets outlets), mechanical services. The building adjoins with the computer
building by a foyer; the foyer adjoins from the first floor of the Faculty of Technology
with the first floor of the computer building. The building is mainly made up of offices
and computer labs.
The Computer building has two floors. It measures 39.95 x 38.86 x 12.6m. It
houses many computers and is a hub of activities during the week. It has a cloud service
at the top floor. The cloud service room is only at the front of the building while the back
of the first floor is left blank. The building houses many computer rooms (labs) both on
the ground and first floor.
The INTECU annex building are two small buildings which are attached to each
other by a small building that is a toilet facility. It measures 37.60 x 9.10 x 4.93m (for the
two while, the connector measures 12.17 x 7.60 x 4.00m It houses many computer
rooms and networks facilities. The building is used by students and nonstudents alike for
works and projects alike. The interior of the building is neat and well kept and the
services (electrical and mechanical) in one part of the building are well maintained and
accurately kept. The other part of the building is not as tidy, but some of the services
which works are mostly just electrical.
The INTECU main building is located at the side of the PTDF building. It houses two
computer labs with each containing 350 workstations. The building was donated by Skye
bank to the school. It is a fairly new building with little defects like; bulbs and socket
defects. The building is rectangular in shape with a circular roof.

Services in the Buildings
The services in all the buildings include structural, mechanical and electrical. The
Electrical services consists; Light bulbs, socket outlets, fans etc
Mechanical services include; Air conditioners, fire alarms, fire extinguishers, rails (stairs)
etc
Structural services include; Windows, Beams etc
The drainage systems of the buildings were internally done as there are no pipes showing
outside of the building.
The building were constructed using concrete for the columns and slabs.
